Seven Bones, Two Wives Two Violent Murders, a fight for justice

Seven Bones, Two Wives Two Violent Murders, a fight for justice

by Jason K Foster

Seven Bones is the story of one of the more bizarre murder investigations in Australia’s history. Two wives die in
suspicious circumstances: co-incidence or, as husband Thomas Keir describes it, â??bad luck’?
Three years after Thomas Keir alleged his first wife
Jean deserted him and her young son for another man,
his second wife Rosalina, Jean’s cousin, lay scorched
and strangled on her bed. Arriving on the scene,
Detective Peter Seymour realised he was dealing with
the world’s unluckiest husband or a serial wife killer.
While Keir was remarkably found â??not guilty’ of
Rosalina’s murder, despite a clear cut case, her death
unlocked the mystery of Jean’s disappearance. A
subsequent police investigation lead to the discovery
of seven small fragments of Jean’s bones – fingers,
knuckles and toes – buried deep under the same
house in which Rosalina died.
Keir’s â??grieving husband’ act was suddenly in question.
The investigation revealed Thomas Kier was a man
so jealous he hated even his own baby son touching
his wife, Jean. A man so possessive he threatened
he would cut her up and feed her to the dogs if she
ever left him. A man who thought he could commit the
perfect crime and publically taunted the police through
the media.
Written through the eyes of Detective Peter Seymour,
Seven Bones follows his relentless pursuit of justice
and his own family sacrifices, through the drama of the
police investigation into Jean’s death, and the three
trials, convictions, and appeals that would take fifteen
years to reach their final conclusion.
Peter Seymour, joined the NSW police force in 1980 as
a general duties officer before gaining rank of Detective
and then moving into the Police Prosecutor’s Branch.
He has written the book in collaboration with author,
journalist and history teacher, Jason Foster

The Worm Book For Beginners: A Vermiculture Starter or How To Be A Backyard Worm Farmer And Make The Best Natural Compost From Worms (Backyard Farm Books)

The Worm Book For Beginners: A Vermiculture Starter or How To Be A Backyard Worm Farmer And Make The Best Natural Compost From Worms (Backyard Farm Books)

by Frank Randall

From the author of the #1 Amazon Bestseller ‘The Bee Book – An Apiculture Starter’ comes this brand new introductory guide to home worm farming, which thanks to you kind people is now also a #1 Bestseller!

Thankyou for taking the time to look at my book.

Are you tired of hearing about the awful effects of chemical-based fertilizer on your local environment?

If so, would you like to find another way?

Well, your search is over!

The best way to avoid the hassles of chemical fertilizers is to make your own organic fertilizer at home – all you need is a worm bin.

Worm composting (or vermicomposting/vermiculture) is the practice of using worms to break down kitchen scraps, and to turn those scraps into nutrient-rich garden compost. It is an ecologically sound way to eat healthier foods, throw away less waste and spend less money.

I have written this step by step guide on worm composting for all of those who are tired of gardening with harmful chemicals. In its pages, you will find out how many worms you need and what kind. You will also find out how to obtain and maintain your worm bin.

What bedding will your worms like? How do you make that bedding? What foods can your worms eat? What foods are hazardous to them? How do you keep pests out of your worm bin?

The answers to all of those questions and more will be revealed.

Most importantly, my book will tell you when and how to harvest your compost for use in the garden. You’ll be amazed at all of the benefits that vermicomposting can offer, whether you’re dealing with seeds, seedlings or full-sized garden plants.

This easy to read, beginners book, summarizes the essential information I have learned over the years, and is written to help you integrate worm composting in to your daily routine.

Best wishes,

Gain Health, Lose Weight

Gain Health, Lose Weight

by Felicity Garver

Learn the 13 foods you MUST include in your healthy eating plan if you hope to lose weight and keep it off, and tune up your hormonal system for health.

Diets don’t work! The last thing you want to do is set yourself up to put on MORE fat by actually eliminating the process that will enable you to burn your excess fat for energy. That’s what you do when you starve yourself on a restricted calorie diet, or worse, go on one of the awful diets that have you eating only grapefruit for a week.

To burn fat for energy, you must eat the foods that support healthy endocrine functioning, or your body will stubbornly insist on holding on to its fat stores. To be successful at weight loss, you must first tune up your glandular system to function at top efficiency, then you can gently coax the pounds off, by making a few simple and easy changes.

Weight loss is much easier when all your systems are working correctly, including your metabolic and endocrine systems. That’s why you need to be “healthy” before you can achieve “slim.”

It’s not dramatic, it’s not quite as exciting as “Lose 20 pounds in 5 days!”, it might even be called “boring.” But slow continual weight loss, where you can easily and effortlessly, lose 12 lbs. a year, sounds pretty thrilling, wouldn’t you agree?

The Naked Diet Plan - Dr. Oz's Plan for Realizing Your Best Self (Fitness, Weight Loss, Wellness)

The Naked Diet Plan – Dr. Oz’s Plan for Realizing Your Best Self (Fitness, Weight Loss, Wellness)

by Serge Devant

Every woman wants to be attractive and healthy, but not many are able to stay in great shape without spending time and energy dieting and exercising. Of course, most women are busy developing their careers and taking care of their partners and children, which leaves very little free time to take care of their own health.

The great number of diets and exercise regimens available on the Internet and in various magazines can create confusion and anxiety rather than providing clear answers. The programs purport to save time and produce fast results, but few have a scientific foundation. Fortunately, there are a few diets designed by highly trained medical professionals who dedicate their time to designing comprehensive and easy-to-follow plans based on medical evidence rather than on unverified facts. The Naked Diet Plan, designed by Dr. Mehmet Oz, is a great option for people who are tired of run-of-the-mill fad diets.

Banaba is a plant that contains several biologically active compounds that effectively lower blood sugar and prevent formation of new fat deposits. According to a 2011 study conducted by experts at Creighton University, Medical Center, Omaha, NE, and published in the Phytotherapy Research Journal, Banaba supplementation causes a decrease in blood sugar through an enhanced uptake of sugar by cells. Additionally, Banaba leaf tea is effective in lowering blood cholesterol and has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-viral properties. It means that regular Banaba leaf tea consumption reduces inflammation in the body, protects the tissues against oxidation and damage by toxic substances and prevents viral infections. Dr. Oz recommends consumption of one or two cups of Banaba leaf tea per day.

Acetic acid is a natural nutritional component found in vinegar and pickles. It is produced through a process of fermentation by human-friendly bacteria. Medical researchers have observed that countries were vinegar consumption is high have lower rates of obesity. Further medical research confirmed that acetic acid containing products stimulate the burning of fat by activating certain genes responsible for acceleration of metabolism….

The Inferno: An Eyewitness account of San Diego on Fire

The Inferno: An Eyewitness account of San Diego on Fire

by Kalpanik S.

This eBook is an Eyewitness account of the 2007 California wild fires, specifically, the Witch Creek fire. The Witch Creek fire was the first and the largest of a series of wildfires that spread across Southern California – including areas in the Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties – and Northern Mexico.

The author and his family had just moved to San Diego a few months before the wild fire burned down 198,000 acres (800 square km) in his neighborhood and adjacent towns.

Wildfires are a relatively common natural occurrence in Southern California and occur naturally expected between June and October in the arid Southern California region, when the combination of the arid climate with less than 10% humidity and the fierce Santa Ana winds (also known as the Devil Winds) combine to ignite the dry forest timber and spread the resulting flames.

As human habitation has spread across the arid areas covered highly flammable “brush-lands”, the potential for catastrophe has simply becomes greater.

In 2007, when the author was forced to witness this right after moving to the area, these fires were so fierce that flames and smoke could be seen from outer space. In fact, NASA satellites were able to take some pictures that would be considered awesome, if only they weren’t depicting something so terrible.

These giant flame required the evacuation of more than a million people – the largest evacuation ever staged in the history of California. In San Diego alone, 900,000 had to leave their homes.

By the time the fires were finally brought under control on October 26, at least 12 people were dead and 2,000 homes and other structures had been burned down. San Diego County was, of course, the worst hit. In that area alone, losses amounted to around a billion dollars.

Intertwined: Humble Journeys on the Pathway to God

Intertwined: Humble Journeys on the Pathway to God

by Cheryl McCausland

What do a waitress on Long Island, an interior decorator in New Jersey, and an attorney in the Hudson Valley of New York have in common? They believe human souls are predisposed to seek God, and by doing so, journey with the souls of others on the pathway to Him. They support their beliefs with numerous examples of otherwise unexplainable events.

Tracy’s journey begins as a five-year-old who awakens to find spirit beings surrounding her bed. Her claims of nightly visitations gain credibility when older sister Laura shares an extraordinary encounter involving a deceased football player. As Tracy matures, she receives divine messages, dreams, and visions and struggles to incorporate them into her daily life.

Laura becomes a successful yet unfulfilled businessperson. While away from her family, she succumbs to an invisible force that propels her into an emotional and spiritual cleansing. Since then, she has become keenly aware of how information tidbits–‘puzzle pieces’– are provided to human beings to foster spiritual enlightenment.

Their friend Cheryl loses control of her car on an icy roadway. She surrenders her destiny to God as the car lands upside down on a snow-covered pond.

The mothers of the three women die after suffering debilitating illnesses. Days, weeks and years after their deaths, dimes, crosses, and angels, appear ‘out of thin air’ to comfort the women and their family members.

Keeping the World Strange: A Planetary Guide

Keeping the World Strange: A Planetary Guide

by Caleb Stokes

A snowflake that describes the multiverse. A team of archaeologists with a mystery benefactor. A century of pulp heroes, atomic ants, kung-fu ghosts, and ships that sail between universes. Villains who hide these wonders from a world they have sold to an unfathomable alien intelligence. And the man, born with the 20th century, who alone can save the world… and his lost friend.

These are the elements of PLANETARY. In telling its story, creators Warren Ellis and John Cassaday uncovered the secret history of the super-hero genre and helped point towards its future, as well as â?? just perhaps â?? our own.

KEEPING THE WORLD STRANGE: A PLANETARY GUIDE excavates all of this, as well as future studies, revisionism, decompression, whether the characters are proactive or reactive, and other topics. This book offers an archaeology of the archaeologists, and its essays allow us to see the snowflake-like structure of the series from new angles. PLANETARY lives and grows in these pages.

Essays examine significant runs (by Jim Shooter, Paul Levitz, and Keith Giffen); the Legion’s science, architecture, and fashion; the role of women, homosexuality, and race; the early Legion’s classical adaptations, teenage cruelty, and relation to the early Justice League; Lightning Lad’s death and resurrection; whether the Legion should be allowed to age; the Amethyst saga; the themes of the reboot Legion; and the so-called Threeboot’s relationship to adult adolescence and generational theory.

No Legion fan or comics scholar should go without this critical celebration of the Legion.

Part B

by David Warren

Part B is a book that takes a look at some of the more common Bible passages that are taken out of context. It is written in an easy to read format that is intended to explain the complete meaning of the passage. It is a brief overview of the entire passage rather than the familiar portion that we tend to focus on. It is the authors hope that this will inspire a more detailed study and awareness of these passages.

Words of Wisdom: a Thinker's Palette

Words of Wisdom: a Thinker’s Palette

by Scott Gallagher

“All truly wise thoughts have been thought already thousands of times; but to make them truly ours, we must think them over again honestly, till they take root in our personal experience.”–Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Words of Wisdom: a Thinker’s Palette (Excerpted from eBook Introduction)First released by Harper Collins, this book has, I am grateful to say, found an enthusiastic readership. Based on anecdotal evidence from readers, the reason for its popularity is owed, I infer, to the awareness that it is not a “Self-Help” book, per se. Rather, it is more a handbook of inquiry . . . .
My reflections on the quotations in these pages are simply that: my particular interpretations of the ideas and insights presented, which the reader may or may not find useful.
In the end, my aspiration for those that read this book is that its content will (as indeed happened to me during its composition) stimulate contemplation and introspection or; in a word, thought.
–Scott Gallagher
“All of us encounter, at least once in our life, some individual who utters words that make us think forever. There are men whose phrases are oracles; who can condense in one sentence the secrets of life; who blurt out an aphorism that forms a character, or illustrates an existence.”–Benjamin Disraeli

Six Revelations (Life Changing)

Six Revelations (Life Changing)

by Burton Rager

Life Changing

Six Revelations

Concise and Informative

Designed to be read in 20 to 40 minutes

Revelation One: Surrendering Your Life to Him
In this life, you have 3 choices; run you own life on your limited wisdom, understanding and inadequacies, let someone else tell you what to do based on their limited wisdom, understanding and inadequacies or surrender your life to God, with His unlimited wisdom, understanding, resources and power.

Revelation Two: Knowing Sin and Satan Will not Overcome You
Make no mistake; Satan is the greatest enemy you have in your life. The Bible says he prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Devour pretty much means he intends to leave nothing left of you by the time he’s finished. According to John 10:10, he also comes to “steal, kill and destroy.” That’s a far cry from messing up your life a little bit.

Revelation Three: The Sweetness of Obedience
As a result of our love for God and submitting our lives to Him, our becoming more Christ like and experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit in us, obedience takes on an aroma of sweetness in our lives. Obedience becomes the desire of our heart not an obligation.

Revelation Four: Realizing God Doesn’t Need You
Sometimes we may think life is about what we can give God, ourselves, our talents, our abilities, for Him to accomplish His work. When we begin to realize that God does not need us, He just wants to use us, the pressure is gone.

Revelation Five: Eternity in Your Heart
Our eternity begins the second we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Some break this into two eternities: our earthly side and our heavenly side. While not completely accurate from a theological standpoint it does paint a picture of the differences between the two.

Revelation Six: Living in the Heavenly Realms
As humans, without God in our life, we live life in a physical realm, one we are very familiar with, where the physical laws of science rule and we have no higher authority to call upon. As you have witnessed, living life in the non-spiritual realm is not God’s desire for you.

Anthem - The Practical Guide to Being a Good American

Anthem – The Practical Guide to Being a Good American

by Glenn A. Bruce

Are you tired of the yelling, the anger, the confusion in America’s political system today? If you are, you need to read this book today! It’s short and to the point; but more important, it is just as the title says: a Practical Guide to Being a Good American. This book should become the Anthem for the 80% of Americans who are “in the middle.” As the author says, “If you take away the 10% on the extreme left, and the 10% on the extreme right, you are left with 80% of Americans who want a quieter, saner dialogue about our many problems, so that we can actually begin fixing them now.”

This book is easy reading, written in an everyday speaking style that makes it accessible to everyone. No concepts in the book are “over anyone’s head.” These are, as the title implies, practical ways of looking at our nation’s issues. The author doesn’t attempt to offer solutions. He’s not an expert. He is one of us, just another American citizen who is frustrated by the shouting, red faces that lead us farther and farther away from each other, rather than uniting us to solve our many problems.

If you are a rabid right-winger, or extreme lefty, don’t read this book; but if you consider yourself to be a calmer person who is looking for direction, “Anthem” is your doorway! The author encourages you to read it, think and seek out answers for yourself. If you don’t agree with everything, that’s fine! That’s America! We aren’t supposed to agree on every point that comes up. We are supposed to do our best to find common ground and solutions.

We must return to the idea that we can agree to disagree; that we can discuss a problem calmly, find a solution somewhere in the middle, and proceed! We cannot continue to argue without forward movement. We must move ahead now to save our country, our jobs, our American way of life.

Again, you will not agree with everything in this book. That’s the point! We are a nation of 312-million people with just as many opinions. We can’t all ever agree. But we can talk to each other more calmly, listen to each other, search out the factsâ??the actual factsâ??then come together to move our country ahead.

We have been united before, and we can be united again. We are the UNITED States of America, not the Name-Calling Accusing States of Static Immobility. We are America, we are Americans, and we can “encourage” our leaders to change, but we need a rally cry, an Anthemâ??and this is it.

The author Glenn A. Bruce has pledged that out of any profits he receives over just one-thousand dollars, he will donate 10% to charity; out of any profits he receives over ten-thousand dollars, he will donate 20% to charity. See the specific charity name(s) at his website

The convenient truth about losing weight

The convenient truth about losing weight

by C.F. Meuleman

“Find a consenting partner and have sex with them, a lot. Let’s face it. It is fun, it is burning calories and according to research it is very good for a relationship to have a lot of sex. Presuming the partner you are having the sex with is the same one you are in a relationship with, otherwise it could hurt your relationship a little bit.”

“If you are working out and you are smiling, chances are you’re not doing it right.”

“The key here is SMALLER portions. If you are used to eating three pizza’s a day, starting to eat five pizzas’ a day will not help. (Eating 3 pizza’s a day even if you split it in 5 portions is still not very helpful in losing weight, but you no doubt get the point).”

A surprising fresh debut book from this new author. The laid-back writing style makes this book very relaxing to read. In a funny and very understandable way no time is wasted going to the heart of the matter:
“Why are we overweight and how can we fix it”?
Some issues might seem to be a bit oversimplified, but in reality they are not. They just are in fact pretty simple.
You cannot argue with the truth, ok fine you could, but you’d lose.

Regardless of your size this book is intended for you.
Even if you are in the minority of the US which is not overweight, this is something which concerns all.
If you are part of this large majority (no pun intended) this is definitely for you.
Some of the topics you will already know, but if you want to learn about losing weight, what have you got nothing to lose but weight itself?

WINGS: A Journey in Faith from the Earthly to the Heavenly - A One Year Workbook in Christian Living

WINGS: A Journey in Faith from the Earthly to the Heavenly – A One Year Workbook in Christian Living

by Carolyn Molica

WINGS: A Journey in Faith from the Earthly to the Heavenly is a compilation of storiesâ??thoughts, musing, insights, revelations and guidance gathered from my experiences living as a Christian in Las Vegas.
The truths I find are not unique to Las Vegas; they’re just magnified here. We live in the middle of a desert. Survival here, whether in Red Rock Canyon or the casinos, is dependent upon preparedness, insight and wisdom. Learn quickly or die. Soar high or get crushed under foot.
I’ve put together this book to use as a workbook. There are 52 chapters, one for each week of the year, and separate chapters for special holidays.
Reading each chapter will give insight into the spiritual forces behind everyday decisions and explore the key ingredients for empowerment. Answering the questions at the end of each chapter will help you to locate where you are on your spiritual journey and to make action plans for going further and higher.

Double Time: On The Oregon Trail

Double Time: On The Oregon Trail

by Dixie Dawn Miller Goode

The past and present meet on the Oregon Trail when two girls travel the same trail with the same lap desk 152 years apart.
Kenyon is traveling in 2002 from Pittsburgh to Salem, OR. Her mother is pregnant and staying behind to close escrow on the house and then flying west to join the family. Kenyon; her 5 year old sister, Melissa and her father are in a Dodge Caravan, with a trailer hitch. Her Grandfather has given her a plain, black polished ebony wooden lap desk lined with a scented wood that still smells faintly of cedar. The box is filled with thick, creamy paper, envelopes, a calling card, a hand mirror, pens and pencils and a small Swiss army knife, postage and an electronic address book. Her Grandfather is not moving with them but plans have been made for him to fly out in December for a visit. Kenyon strongly resents being expected to entertain Melissa at the motels in the evenings. Her father has decided to take the long way and show his girls some of the wonders of this country and Melissa is excited but Kenyon is determined to not have any fun.
Traveling in 1850, Della, age 15, has already traveled from Northern Illinois to St. Louis, then a week by steamboat on the Missouri river. She stopped in Independence, MO to prepare for the journey and meet with the wagon train. She left behind her 60 year old grandmother who feels too old to attempt the trip, but who gave her a gift of a wooden lap desk. The desk is filled with paper, a small mirror, wooden handled pens with steel nibs, a metal letter opener, hair pins and a small sewing kit. Her younger brother, Orville, her father, and her pregnant mother are traveling with her. She has been asked to teach the younger children around the campfire in the evenings.
What happens when they open the desk to see the other girls journal?

What the Hell: How Did We Get it So Wrong? Eternity, Grace, and the Message of Love

What if everything you’ve been taught about Hell was wrong?

Many Christians think that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and those who

Is this what the Bible teaches?
Will the majority of mankind spend
eternity in torment because they rejected God in this life?

“What the Hell” will show you what the Scriptures clearly teach about this subject
and where this idea of Hell came from. It’s not about winning or losing
or even changing the Christian faith. It’s about the honest pursuit of

The Mule Tamer III, Marta’s Quest

by John Horst

Nineteen-eleven is the year our two beauties, Rebecca Walsh and Marta del Toro leave the comfort and safety of their boarding school back East, under the watchful eye of their grandmother Abuelita and Madame Boutin, headmistress of Stonefields School for Young Ladies. They’re headed to Smith College in the fall, to continue on the path of the blueblood debutante. But something is rotten in their beloved Mexico. The Revolution has started; Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa are on the move. Adulio, their faithful servant and overseer of the Del Toro ranch has come to fetch them. They are needed in Mexico.
Follow the girls on an adventure, a road to discovery where they will have to summon their courage and call upon their talents, their loyalty, their faith in each other to overcome the challenges facing them as they search for inner and outer peace, battling the old demons, greed, lust, vanity, self-doubt and a new one, likely the most difficult of them all, maturation into adulthood. Butterfly Dreams

Butterfly Dreams

by C.E. Wheeler

This collection of three stories was influenced by the art of Chinese storytelling. The title comes from the ancient Taoist master – Zhuangzi, who wrote of dreaming he was a butterfly. The three tales: The Papermakers’ Apprentice, Mountain and Moon, and Sunrise and the North Wind bring to life the elemental of fairy tales. My Chinese name is Zhuang Daobai.

The three tales in Butterfly Dreams came about through reading numerous ancient and modern Chinese tales, including fairy tales and classic epics. Zhuangzi was a Taoist sage who once wrote, “Zhuangzi dreamed he was a butterfly happily fluttering about joyously forgetting who he was. Suddenly Zhuangzi awoke, but he did not know if he was a butterfly dreaming he was a man, or a man who dreamed he was a butterfly.”
I have tried to emulate the rhythm and magical realism elements of Chinese tales in this three-story collection.
The first tale “The Papermaker’s Apprentice” begins in the modern world and proceeds to weave the magical tale of the ancient painting master Chen Hongshou and his supernatural apprentice.
The second tale “Mountain and Moon” creates a mystical bond between the moon and a mighty mountain. It is a love story of deep longing and total devotion.
The third tale “Sunrise and the North Wind” unites the demure Sunrise with the bold North Wind. This tale uses magical realism to craft a enduring love story.

“Nothing is ever lost or broken. Connections don’t die, they simply fade. Nothing is ever lost or stolen. What lives in the heart can’t be taken awayâ?¦” Poetry isn’t an exact science and it doesn’t have any hard or fast rules. It flows from the heart, a deeply personal narrative of each person’s journey through life. Inside this book are poems told through the eyes of one woman and her struggle to make sense of the world she lives in. Beautiful, sometimes dark, haunting and tragic…Her voice resonates off each page. Also inside this book, you will also find stories and excerpts that she has written. Each one with characters as interesting and diverse as the issues they all face. Perhaps, you will find someone who is very much like you. Broken Pottery

Broken Pottery

by Joan K. Smith

Very Topical and even Metafictional!

This fictional book is great for discussions of politics, religion, and life. You know – those things you aren’t supposed to talk to anybody about to keep the peace?

Do we all exist in Heaven before becoming human? Is our life on Earth a test to see if we then get to spend Eternity with God? Does evil exist? Do evil spirits exist? Is there anything to the December 21, 2012 Mayan prophecy or other political, environmental, or astronomical events suggesting we may be living in the END TIMES? What does it mean to be Christian in the year 2012 and beyond? Is God even in control? These questions and many more are answered in the pages of Broken Pottery.

Janice Thresher is the typical middle class suburban teen of the 1980’s. Living near Pittsburgh, PA, she follows her high school sweetheart off to Penn State where he proceeds to dump her. She copes with her loss by partying heavily until God brings a new love into her life. In a cruel twist of fate, this love was not meant to last either.

On the other side of the country in Southern California, Sophie Ulsrey, a girl several years younger than Janice, spends her time trying to hide ugly scars sustained after a terrible auto accident in which she lost her father. The accident, and her mother’s reaction to it, drives Sophie to achieve wealth and fame as she becomes an adult.

As adults, the lives of Janice and Sophie divinely intersect in time to warn fellow Americans of a government cover-up to hide important factual information with apocalyptic national security implications. Just as it was in 1938 when an American radio audience believed Orson Welles’ “War of the Worlds” broadcast to be truth instead of fiction, many readers of Broken Pottery will be tempted to check their cell phones and digital libraries just to make sure they, too, are reading only a book of fiction.

Broken Pottery takes you on a suspenseful adventure through the years 1965-2020, taking on the real difficulties we all have in life, dramatizes them, and provides a considered, thoughtful view of how we tackle them. 21 Study questions for self-reflection or group study are included. Below is an example of three of them:

2. Does God want us to question our beliefs?

9. Do you believe there are both heavenly and demonic forces at work in your life and in the lives of all of us?

17. Do you believe that the “ends justify the means?” Who gets to decide which “ends” are important enough that the “means” are justified? Why?

Michael, Beloved of God (The Firstborn)

Michael, Beloved of God (The Firstborn)

by L.M. Wood

“Before. We were. Before there was light, before the stars were hung, before the galaxies were fashioned and the planets set to revolving around their suns, before the oceans were mixed, before the mountains were formed, before creatures were created, before there was sound, before there was matter, before there was time, before all except the One, we were.
He formed us first to be his companions and his servants, to share his joy, and receive his light. All of his creations delight in His holy will, obey his every thought, and joyously dance to the tune He plays for them. Only man, who was formed in His holy image, dares to defy His laws. To your kind he gave generously of even the highest gifts, that none but we, the firstborn, knew.
He was surely aware of the resentment building in one of us, the first among us, the fairest, the strongest, our brother, our sun. I cannot speak of that time, and I try not to give rise to the anger in my being against those responsible for his fall. For would I not then be no different than he? Would I not share his fate in my arrogance for questioning the will of He who is above all things?
Perhaps He senses my resentment and knows of my frustration over my inability to set it aside. In His infinite mercy, He has given me this task, so I might understand, so my anger might ever be silenced, and I can return to the peace of knowing all will be well, and my brother will one day return to us. If I knew such an outcome to be a fact, I would not be troubled. For what is time to us but the count of endless dawns, the birth of new worlds and the death of ancient ones? But I know not what will come. Will my brother repent of his arrogance? Will man be my brother’s salvation or his eternal damnation? As to the fate of man, I do not presume to hazard a guess. For He is unfathomable and in time He may share his thoughts with me, I know not.
So here is the task He set for me. Here is the story of man from the point of view of one who has watched his haughty little march across the face of his little world from the moment God first called him into being. At times I find myself filled with laughter at his antics, at others I am awed by his breathtaking conceit. Always I wait, seeking some sign all will be wellâ?¦”
He paused in the telling and I raised my eyes to his, both humbled by the depth of his loss and afraid of the terrible anger I sensed he kept masked deep within. In his eyes I found answers to questions I didn’t remember asking, yet I knew they were answers I desperately sought. In a single glance I learned faith was not the absence of doubt. Faith was overcoming doubt, even in the face of our rage and resentment when God’s plan failed to follow the course we believed it should. Absolute faith was not a goal to be attained, but one we were called to strive constantly for, even the greatest among us. When we convinced ourselves our faith was inviolate, it was then we were at our most vulnerable. Wasn’t that the lesson of Lucifer’s fall from grace?
I knew the awesome presence before me understood this, but still I trembled before him. My mortal half instinctively recognized he could dismiss me from the face of this little earth, as he referred to it, with but the merest slip of his mighty will. The tense silence extended between us and I looked away, not wanting to intrude on his inner struggle.
I thought about the story of Lucifer, a mighty prince of the first born before he challenged God and was cast out of heaven along with those of his brothers he seduced to join him in his futile attempt. Were there no others? Did all of the angels learn their lesson after just one failed attempt? Or did another great one rise in his place and seek to displace God from his eternal throne?
“No, though we are conscious of the danger.”

The Hush

The Hush

by William Flowers

From the older images of a sad, blue-eyed Jesus to the more recent, more violently graphic portrayals of his suffering, Hollywood has trained us to see the savior of the world as just another victim. To be sure, Jesus Christ endured terrible physical abuse and a barbaric death, but the night before it all happened, when he prayed in agony, alone in the garden, he was anticipating a much darker prospect, a terrible moment that according to Luke’s Gospel would cause the sun’s light to fail.

The Hush presents an alternative view, a much larger, more comprehensive look at the familiar story, combining a unique blend of speculation with the biblical record. Passion and humor and friendship are exchanged between Jesus and his disciples, while all around them danger and conflict and unseen posturing mounts. The week wears away, the hours tick down, the trials commence, and the abuse escalates. Evil is unleashed like never before.

And then comes the moment when the sun refuses to shine; as the Lord of the universe is nailed to a tree and lifted from the earth, the Hush descends.

Surviving February-Revised Edition

Surviving February-Revised Edition

by Jen Dawson

“What a great modern romance story and the tension between the love interests is well maintained and escalated fabulously right throughout – no small feat! ” Cands, book reviewer

“Fantastic writing I want to read more of her books if this is her style of writing.” Deb, book reviewer

This is an edgy religious romantic fiction novel that has characters that are relatable and real. Surviving February is a novel in the spirit of “A Walk to Remember” by Nicholas Sparks.

The novel opens in San Diego at a celebration of a well known evangelists 25th anniversary in the ministry, where youth pastor Michael Binder is there attending with his wife Susanna. A planned ruse goes horribly wrong and Michael and his wife are involved in a horrific car accident. At the same time as the accident, widow and mother Jeanine Bertrand is taking her daughter on a shopping spree that she cannot afford and soon faces the fact that she is going to lose her home. Jeanine ends up moving to Glendale, Arizona and moves into her cousins Sally’s house. Michael returns from the hospital to his humble home in Phoenix and wonders how he will face life alone with his four children. Michael struggles with grief and Jeanine struggles with anger and a loss of faith. They meet when Jeanine answers Michael’s ad for a nanny and their instant attraction becomes an issue for both of them. Can Michael forgive himself and move on? Can Jeanine get past the anger she has at God and at herself? Can a man of God convince an unwilling woman to give religion a second chance? Could they make a relationship work?

November Snow

November Snow

by Michael English Bierwiler

Tom edged up to the window where the fight unfolded. Lynch was curled defensively on the couch while Cath towered over him wielding the boys’ souvenir slugger. The wooden bat swung up and down rhythmically interspersed with her diatribes as she beat him senseless. Tom slipped the key in the deadbolt.

Lynch sobered up enough to get on his feet and grab the bat from her. Cath didn’t relent. She kept pushing against him, pounding her fists into his chest. Lynch backed his wife up against the wall with his forearm against her throat. She stopped screaming. He wasn’t letting up even when Tom slammed through the front door.

“Lynch, let her go!”

Cath gurgled. Tom tried to pry his arm loose. She was turning bright red while her bulging eyes rolled back in her head. Only the pressure of his forearm against her neck kept her from crumbling to the floor. Tom pulled his brother off-balance and Lynch fell on top of him.

Cath crawled over to the phone, braced herself against the wall and punched 9-1-1 screaming into the phone at arm’s length.

“Lynch, no! I can’t breathe.”

She followed up with another blood-curdling scream dropping the phone. Lynch and Tom stared back from the floor.

“If you can’t breathe, you can’t scream, woman,” Lynch observed. He just had to stoke the fire.

Big brother Lynch generated excitement. Wind him up and he went crazy. On one hand he was Tom’s brother and best friend ever since he could remember. On the other Lynch was the alpha son. No matter how badly he screwed up, he always basked in the love of the first-born child. They were blood. They were Kendricks, genetically imprinted with the same capability for heinous thoughts and malicious behavior. NOVEMBER SNOW tells their story.

Better yet, the Club thinks that the vampire might still be alive to this day, lying comatose in a hidden grave. And this is good news indeed for a group of vampire lovers. The hunt begins, and as they close in on their immortal prize, they soon realize that they aren’t the only ones interested in the vampire; indeed, a powerful group of killers will use whatever means possible to keep the vampire permanently in its grave.

They call him Spider. And people come to him when they have a problem. So when teenager Parker Cole approaches Spider at night school, he figures she’s just another problem waiting to happen. But then she tells him about her father, who runs a cult called Cloudland based at the foot of mystical Mount Shasta, California. And then she tells Spider about her best friend, who is now dead, her body completely drained of blood. El Paso Under Attack (Book 1 of The Guardian Interviews)

El Paso Under Attack (Book 1 of The Guardian Interviews)

by Michael Clary

Book 1 of the Guardian Interviews.

It was a warm summer morning when the dead began to rise up and feast upon the living. El Paso was overrun in a matter of hours.

The military acted immediately. They closed all the exits leading out of the city in order to contain the outbreak. They shot anyone trying to escape.

Their methods were successful. The outbreak was contained, but all hope for the people trapped behind the gates . . . had been lost.

The internet was the only form of communication still available to the survivors. It was there that the legend of the General began to take root. He was a hero that fought back against the zombies . . . a hero that saved lives. The survivors once again found something to believe in, but the rest of the world wondered if the man truly existed.

They were about to find out.

The fifteen minutes of footage was leaked onto the internet only minutes after it was filmed. It showed a single man standing between a horde of zombies and a group of frightened survivors. What happened next was amazing . . . and it made the world believe. Because within those fifteen minutes of footage, the man known only as the General stepped out of legend and entered reality.

This is his story.

“If you like zombie novels and action movies this is a truly fun read… Has a couple truly epic moment’s of glory that raised some hair on the back of my head. All A type goofballs should enjoy.” John

“Love the Interview style of narration. Well structured sentences and word choice. Loved every minuet of this.” Ian Umholtz

“…My favorite thing about this book is the star of the show, a character named Jaxon (or in certain circles, the General). This character is a new kind of hero. A hero weighted down by some interesting flaws, BUT and i can’t stress this enough, you actually like the guy even more because of his flaws. He’s arrogant, sometimes rude and somewhat reckless but if i were in hostile territory and surrounded by zombies, he’s the guy i would want coming to save me!” Zombiefan

“I do have to say that this book took me by suprise – I just figured it would be another zombie book. In fact as I was browsing through books I had come across this one many times and just passed on it because both the description and the cover didn’t really pop. Well the old saying to “never judge a book by its cover” is so correct what I thought was just an initial zombie story of one man leading a group to safety and overcoming both the zombie horde and his own government well I was wrong.” ROgden

“Absolutely loved this book, read it in one day.” Sussy Q

“I really loved this zombie novel. It has such an original plot in The Guardian concept, and it was wonderful how the author developed that concept throughout the book. I am definitely looking forward to the sequel…Our hero Jax is one of those ornery guys who likes to do things his way, and his way means never giving up on people. Jax does not walk away, ever. When that kind of mind set collides with a zombie apocalypse in El Paso, well, look out!” New Yorker

“Really fast paced book and I enjoyed the hell out of it.” Zombie309

“I really enjoyed this book. Chain of events is interesting and fun, the characters are dynamic, and the action is non-stop.” Babymamma08

“No shortage of talent here. Clary has created a host of beleivable characters led by his protagonist “The General”. And he has left it hanging to be open to all types of evil things for the general and his team.” S. Coyle

Thanks to all the folks that have written to me, left reviews and mentioned my book in the different forums. Your kind words are truly inspirational as i complete the final phases of book 2.

Book 2 of the Guardian Interviews will be available in July of 2012.

Julie Rayzor ~ Romance, Adventure, Zombies (Julie Rayzor Zombie Novel)

Julie Rayzor ~ Romance, Adventure, Zombies (Julie Rayzor Zombie Novel)

by Richard Howes

What do you do when you’re 17, in a fortress surrounded by a zombie apocalypse, and your boyfriend is outside and lost? If you’re Julie Rayzor, you lock and load.
“Crisp, fast-paced action novel… Writing style is very impressive… usually found in male adventures, yet his heroine is a woman in love… he pulls off the balancing act between realistic feminine energy and highly effective tough combat… Successfully blends all three genres: sci-fi, a love story, and a war story, and it works on all three levels… Great dialogue in this entertaining novel… Elmore Leonard type: short, character-revealing, and advancing the story conflict. And conflict is everywhere… I will not give away any secrets in the plot… I won’t tell you about the train scenes, wow, you’ll have to discover those yourself. I will say that the love story kicks in like an afterburner…” says John Hill, Author and Screenwriter of “Quigley Down Under”, and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (uncredited), “LA Law” and “Quantum Leap”.
17 year-old Julie is caught between a world of zombies outside of “Fort Tulsa” and a life of drama inside. When everything she loves in life is stolen away; her soldier-boyfriend missing-in-action; troubles with Jill, her best friend; Felix, a nerdy medical researcher fawning over her; plus a broken leg in a cast to weigh her down, she has to join the zombie war to fight or be killed. When she learns of a plan to rescue her boyfriend and save the city, she uncovers a dark secret – a secret that she must keep hidden deep inside until she can complete the most dangerous task of her life.

The sequel, Rayzor-Wire, is in production.

Psychic: a story about a story

Psychic: a story about a story

by Nan Coleman

When the editor of a paranormal magazine asks Nick Young for a story yesterday, the part-time writer is determined to give him one. Featuring high school students Adam and Kysa, who are telepathic twins, Psychic seems to write itself. As words flow, a plot reveals that a terrorist blows up a building, and describes how the brother, sister, and their mother, an ER nurse, must work together in order to save the survivors trapped inside.

Just for fun, Nick has based the main characters on his friends and people that interested him, but when his tale suddenly begins to come true, fiction turns into real-life horror. Far from being a figment of his imagination, the demon that appears in Psychic turns out to be a reality. In the past, Kysa, a ghost-hunter, had robbed the evil creature by releasing souls to heaven, and now it wants payback. As the story plays out, the only things left standing between death and devastation for hundreds of people are the clues that lay hidden in the pages of Nick’s story.

Is Psychic is more of a prediction than a fictional tale of horror? Nick, Kysa, Adam, and Elaine must decipher the clues to keep a demon from stealing innocent lives, and any one of them could fall victim to the evil. Filled with terror and suspense, this story within a story is guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seats to the very last page.

But when his mom brings him home a painted picture of a sad-looking clown, he begins to seriously reconsider. Something is seriously wrong with this old, worn painting, and it’s only going to get worse–much worse. The picture is just plain evil. Devil's Toll

Devil’s Toll

by Malachi Stone

DEVIL’S TOLL asks: what happens to our
consciousness when we die? Despite the current appetite for supernatural
suspense fiction, to my knowledge no novel to date has dared explore the Aerial
Toll Houses, a
time-honored religious belief that at the moment of death, our souls encounter
supernatural toll houses guarded by demons seeking their last chance to snatch us away to eternal
damnation. The existence of the Aerial Toll Houses is an ancient doctrine in the Eastern Orthodox
Church–a doctrine that persists to this day.

DEVIL’S TOLL, written in a deceptively
light-hearted tone, leads the reader on a death walk with a modern woman
through her mysterious premature demise and the harrowing of her soul by
malevolent unearthly beings masquerading as humans.

by Iain Rowan

“Alex thought of his grandfather, of the way that the river at home curved between the fields and shone secret and silver in the light of the moon, of the trains full of soldiers that rattled off up into the hills towards the mud and the fear, and of the dead that walked the city.”

Lilies is a short story of the dead and the living, in a city at war where it is hard to tell one from the other, and where the men who carry the lilies commit the strangest of murders and kill the already dead.

Lilies was chosen for Stephen Jones’ Best New Horror anthology and recommended for the British Fantasy Society’s Best Short Story. Iain’s short fiction has been reprinted in anthologies, won awards, and been the basis for a novel shortlisted for the UK Crime Writers’ Association’s Debut Dagger award.

“Iain Rowan is both a meticulous and a passionate writer, and these stories showcase his ample talent wonderfully well. You owe it to yourself to discover Rowan’s fiction if you haven’t already had the pleasure.”

From Darkness

From Darkness

by Karil Wade

From darkness evil stalks us.  Living outside our light, retreating into darkness, never fully of our world.  Only in our dreams and darkest corners of our existence does it approach boldly.  We glance nervously into the dark pockets of the hallway after extinguishing the lights, the glow of the bedroom lamp the only beacon at the end of it.  What could possibly reach out from the darkness to get us?  Our imaginations and nightmares know.  Do you?
From Darkness is a story of evil commanding an entrance into this world.  A young woman’s battle to stop it-her sister, whom she loves, its target.  From a small dark hole in a wall behind a washer in a basement, the nightmare emerges.  A nightmare that visited this basement before and the people who live on Orca Island.  An evil deified and forgotten, returning once again from darkness to devour the light.

Soul of the Dragon

Soul of the Dragon

by Karil Wade

A dark and stormy night, an atmosphere of fear and dread.  Horror.  The tales of nightmares and frightening realms of reality only a turn of the page away.  The fiction of horror, a place our imaginations go so eagerly, filling our minds with alternative ways of thinking and feeling.  Training for bigger truths to come?
Soul of the Dragon, a story of innocence and evil, puts us inside a killer’s skin as hostage witness to violent acts of murder.  Revealing that this killer never acts alone.  Beyond deaths door the dragon waits at a point just past ones death, when a being is unwilling to let go of human bonds.  The dragon’s doorway into our world of the living.  Only the innocent thoughts of a young boy can send it back.  But not before its wrath is wrought.

Four Corners Dark

by William McNally

Upon learning of the tribe’s fears, the townspeople agreed to intervene. Instead, they antagonized a creature that devours the hearts of the living and the souls of the dead, a witch that hunts on tribal landsâ?¦ Terrifying encounters and haunting twists power this collection of works. In “Engine Eighteen,” a group of Mexican immigrants attempt to cross a desert border to begin new lives, but end up paying a price for their old lives. “Return to Nowhere,” is the story of a man who has the extraordinary ability to remake his lives and escape his pasts. “The Raven Mocker,” a novella, tells the tale of a couple who encounters a dark force along the border between life and death. “The Spinning Wheel,” examines the face of fate and the choice given to one man to change it.

by Okamoto

A punk/crime Border-noir novel in stories & fragments — a dark echo chamber for plangent voices of the morose, the desperate, the holy, the melancholy & the damned. Fictional documents of sufferings “handed down like an unwanted curse.” A young woman travels with a wanted outlaw & documents their sufferings. A Japanese sailor seeks to avenge the murder of his hotel maid sister. A malefic puppet possessed by the spirit of a hanged pirate teaches human beings some murderous tricks. A coffin-maker wordlessly demonstrates to his son the meaning of bravery, love & redemption. A queer, taciturn cripple takes on some Chicago hard men with surprising results. A parachutist-assassin in Nazi occupied Paris reflects on his life & training. A beautiful Sicilian virgin in the Old West draws two brothers into a world of suffering & mayhem. Okamoto, author of THE LONELINESS OF THE BLUE-EYED ASSASSIN, infuses all these lives & moments with his characteristic mix of dark wit, psychological acumen, stark intensity & literary splendor.

“This is quite simply unique. Words like discursive, picaresque, surreal, trippy and post-modern mash up begin to describe it . . . All inhuman life is here. A great read that you can dip in and out of and always find something to entertain. Shocking in parts — a hidden gem that needs to become better known.” -Writer Adam Gilray, MOVELLAS.

Approx 8,500 words – a short story.

by Michael Montoure

A childhood tragedy left James marked, leaving him with the power to see into “dead time” — the sights and sounds of people and places long since gone — and with a debt he can never repay. Unless he can change everything ….

“I don’t think about it because I have to get on with my life,” Darryl hissed. “Okay, you’re right, it was wrong, for all I know we’re going to hell for it, but I can’t think about it every day! It was thirty fucking years ago and there’s nothing we can do to change it!”

James didn’t say anything for a second. Then he said, even more quietly — “What if there is? Do you remember what the refrigerator was? What we were playing it was, I mean?”

“What — “

“A time machine. We were building a time machine. And I think it worked. I think it did something to me, and if you take me back there — “

“Okay, now you have officially lost your fucking mind — “

” — If you take me back there, I think I can fix this!”

This short story originally appeared in the collection “SLICES,” available now.

The Gatherers

The Gatherers

by Rory J Cole

“This isn’t a soft story about how it will be okay. Those days are over and we know it won’t. The Gatherers came. You woke up and this was the world.”

So begins The Gatherers, the first instalment of an ongoing series as told by the few survivors who have encountered The Gatherers and lived.

Left abandoned after his fellow campers are attacked, this one survivor staggers through the trees, disoriented and lost. Above, the Gatherers are watching, stalking from the trees. These hunters are numerous and something otherworldly, and seem to be giving him a free pass.

“You don’t know it, but they’re watching. Anything can be misconstrued. It’s safer to just keep on walking. Never dwell. Hide your emotions until you’re locked in a room with a wall to your back and your gaze on the only door. That’s how it is. That’s how you live.”

Things To Do With Kids Under 6 (and Over 60) Years Old at Anaheim's Disneyland: (An Unofficial Guide)

Things To Do With Kids Under 6 (and Over 60) Years Old at Anaheim’s Disneyland: (An Unofficial Guide)

by Kirsten Anderberg

Small kids are often excluded from faster rides at Disneyland and people need to know where they can go to have fun with small kids in the park. Additionally, Disneyland can be exhausting and overwhelming for parents and older folks, and they, too, need a guide for fun with more relaxation at the park. This guide was written with these groups in mind. The author grew up in Southern CA and has been to Disneyland as a child, teen, and then as a parent and older person. All of the suggestions in the book are based on personal experience. Need to find a shady place for you and your kids to relax yet still be entertained? Want to find a quick healthy snack or a bathroom with shorter lines? What happens when kids get lost? Can I rent a stroller on site? What about our family dog on vacation with us? Are there lockers inside the park? Where can I get a personalized kid’s parasol while sipping a non-alcoholic mint julep and eating a Mickey-shaped Beignet? Is there somewhere to get breakfast inside the park? All of these questions, and more, are answered in this book. (This book is in no way associated with Disneyland or the Disney Company. It is an unofficial guide written by a fan and parent.)

Boxing Icons: The Lives and Legacies of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson

Boxing Icons: The Lives and Legacies of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson

by Charles River Editors

*Includes pictures of Ali, Tyson, and important people, places, and events in their lives.
*Comprehensively covers their most famous fights
*Includes a Table of Contents.

“To prove I am great, he will fall in eight.” – Muhammad Ali

“Everybody in boxing probably makes out well except for the fighter.” – Mike Tyson

The sports world has never suffered from a shortage of self-promoters, but none have ever walked the walk and backed up the talk like Muhammad Ali, boxing’s greatest icon and possibly history’s most famous athlete. Indeed, even referring to Ali just as a boxer does a disservice to the transcendent figure he has become around the world as a living legend.

Of course, the legend of Ali begins in the squared circle, where a young, brash kid named Cassius Clay rose to the top of the boxing world with a style so unorthodox that anyone else attempting it would all but assure he’d get knocked out. But Ali became the heavyweight champ by keeping his hands low, “floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee”, and outboxing heavyweight champions like Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, and Floyd Patterson.

Though he was both loved and hated during his career, since his retirement, Ali has remained one of sports’ greatest icons across the globe, and he has been honored with too many awards to count. Held in awe just about everywhere, Ali has lit the torch at the Olympics, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and received the Presidential Citizens Medal, among other honors.

Iron Mike Tyson was one of the most feared opponents to ever step into a boxing ring. With unbelievable power that floored or stopped all but two of his first 28 professional opponents, Tyson began an unprecedented ascent to the top of the boxing world, becoming the youngest champion in history with a second round TKO over Trevor Berbick, the last man to box and defeat Muhammad Ali. That victory, in November 1986, prompted one British sports reporter to write, “The noble and manly art of boxing can at least cease worrying about its immediate future, now it has discovered a heavyweight champion fit to stand alongside Dempsey, Tunney, Louis, Marciano and Ali.”

Tyson became one of the biggest names in sports during the 1980s and could literally do no wrong in the ring, compiling a 37-0 record with 33 KO/TKOs. Unfortunately, as everyone knows today, the unprecedented nature of his rise is rivaled only by his stunning fall from grace. In February 1990, Tyson was knocked out by Buster Douglas in one of boxing’s greatest upsets. Though he won his next few fights, his career was derailed by his conviction for raping Desiree Washington, landing him in prison for 3 of his prime fighting years.

When Tyson got out of prison, his career simply became surreal. After winning a few belts back, he lost two bouts to Evander Holyfield, infamously biting part of Holyfield’s ear off out of frustration during the rematch. He had another stint in jail before the end of the â??90s, and his odd comments before his loss to Lennox Lewis ensured that the man once billed as an all time great was now more of a one man circus than anything else. In 2003, near the end of a career that had netted him $300 million, Tyson declared bankruptcy, hitting rock bottom. Today Tyson is nostalgically remembered as one of boxing’s great heavyweights, but that shares the pedestal with his controversial quotes and antics.

Boxing Icons chronicles the lives, careers and legacies of both fighters, from their unprecedented highs to their infamous lows. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events in their lives, you will learn about Ali and Tyson like you never have before, in no time at all.

Light in the Mountains -- A Hoosier Quaker Finds Communal Enlightenment in Nepal (Himalayas Philanthropy Trekking)

Light in the Mountains — A Hoosier Quaker Finds Communal Enlightenment in Nepal (Himalayas Philanthropy Trekking)

by Jeff Rasley

What is real community?  In Light in the Mountains Jeff Rasley relates what he discovered in the unique and ancient communal practices of the Rai people in remote Basa Village in the Nepal Himalayas. Rasley was welcomed into the community, not as stranger or even guest, but as “Dhai”– brother.  The villagers taught the explorer-adventurer the true meaning of communal hospitality.  Rasley has returned each year to Basa and has helped to build an elementary school, a hydroelectric system and smokeless stoves. But Rasley affirms that he has received more from Basa than he has given.

Reviewers have praised Bringing Progress to Paradise, the prequel to Light in the Mountains, as a more honest Three Cups of Tea. It is “Part memoir, part travelogue, part documentary, this true adventure captures your interest in the opening pages and leaves you yearning for your own personal pilgrimage through the remote villages of Nepal.” Cherri Megasko

“It really is an inspiring story, beautifully written, and beautifully illustrated.” Andrew Olivo Parodi

“This book reminds me of Three Cups of Tea in that Rasley went to Nepal, saw the needs of the tiny village in the Himalayas, which had no running water and no electricity and badly needed teachers and a school, returned home and made it happen.” Bonnie Neely

“Well written and full of colorful descriptions and insights about the mystical Nepalese, this book made me want to get in high-altitude shape and go trekking under the shadows of the Himalayas to meet these wonderful people.” Glen Craney

Light in the Mountains; a Hoosier Quaker Finds Communal Enlightenment in Nepal is a call to those living in urban North America and Europe to regain the connectedness of community. The wisdom offered to “us” by Basa Village is to work hard but sing, dance, cultivate flowers and enjoy life in community.

Readers of Bringing Progress to Paradise demanded the rest of the story:
“But the central issue … demanding a sequel, is the question of whether the “Progress” he is bringing, while admittedly of material value to the villagers, might lead to some degree of corruption of their way of life, a consumerist, Western-oriented degradation of a spiritual depth and sensitivity to their surroundings… I can hardly wait for the necessary follow-up in the next book of the series.” John McLaughlin, PhD

“The reader is taken on a fascinating journey to explore, compare and contrast, as well as debate how the meeting of the East and West has altered the landscape and lives of people in this remote part of the globe.” Erika Borsos

“If I could picture a time pre-written word and be sitting around a campfire with the people of my community listening to the old story teller sharing stories of the quests of our people, I could picture Mr. Rasley being that story teller.” DJ Sauer

If you liked Seven Years in Tibet, read Light in the Mountains to find out whether “progress” has damaged the village called a beautiful little flower in the mountains.

Between 1830 and 1845, Poker was played more by an increasing number of players. It was during this time when the draw was then introduced. However, the term draw was already known in poker’s English counter-part, Brag. The addition of the draw and the flush combination boost the pleasure of the game, thus, a second betting interval was made. Poker and Online Poker.

It was in 1864 when the combination of straight sequence or rotation was introduced while playing poker. With the addition of straight, an additional rule was introduced where a straight and a flush combination will undeniably outrank a full combination. Poker and Online Poker. The addition of straight in poker was an exhilarating development because, as experts say, without straights and straight flushes, the only highest possible hand would be four aces or four kings and an ace kicker. Poker and Online Poker. In the poker world, this type of combination at hand is not just unbeatable, but cannot be matched or tied. Poker and Online Poker.

* Includes an in depth look at the lives of Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods

Arnold Palmer:

There are few professional athletes that have made an impact on their sport like Arnold Palmer. Palmer single handedly elevated golf into the worldwide phenomenon it is today. He was the quintessential player who transformed the game from a hobby into an art, and was the complete package of good looks, charisma and charm. The fact that he was the best golfer of his day didn’t hurt either.

Like many other great athletes, Arnold Palmer transcended sports. Today Arnold is a variety of things to many different people: golf immortal, successful golf course designer, prominent businessman and devoted family man. In a world where famous athletes are known for their demonstrative personalities and prima donna attitudes Arnold Palmer was and still is a breath of fresh air.

We’ll take you through Palmer’s life from the son of a groundskeeper in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to the pinnacle of golf success on the PGA tour as he captures 62 PGA Tour victories including seven major championships. We’ll also take you behind the scenes of his golf business including his golf course design firm and his founding of the Golf Channel.

Palmer’s life on and off the golf course is inspiring. Unlike so many elite athletes, he was able to transition from the game as his body failed him and did it with dignity and honor. He has too many accolades to list – including the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush in 2004. Ask him and he’ll tell you he’s just Arnold Palmer, a kid from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, but to us, he’s “The King.”

Jack Nicklaus:

Jack Nicklaus is more than just a famous name in golf history. While he is most known for his prowess on the golf course, he has also done a lot to promote and further the entire sport. From his award winning golf course designs to his philanthropic work, Jack Nicklaus is truly one of a kind when it comes to generosity and humbleness.

Jack Nicklaus started out golfing as a child for fun and then his hobby led him in to doing it as a full time career. Jack said he never imagined golf would be a career for him because he loved to play the game so much. However, it worked out well for him as he left school to try and earn money on the golf circuit and earned way more than he ever could have imagined.

Besides setting records on the courses for just about every record ever kept, Nicklaus became a legend off the course as well. He went into business designing golf courses and remains in business with his sons to this day. Many of the PGA major golf tournaments are held at his courses.

Besides designing courses, Nicklaus also has a line of golf apparel, three lines of golf clubs, a brand of wine, a golf academy, a real estate division for his golf courses and even a travel agency. Nicklaus oversees hospitable charities with his wife and they donate hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to many worthwhile causes in their home state of Ohio and their adopted state of Florida.

Tiger Woods:

The name “Eldrick Woods” means nothing to most people, but when you say “Tiger Woods,” the whole world is suddenly alert and listening. Most individuals are unaware Eldrick Woods and Tiger Woods are, in reality, the same man. Have you heard the story of how Eldrick became Tiger? Pavlov's Trout - The incompleat psychology of everyday fishing

Pavlov’s Trout – The incompleat psychology of everyday fishing

by Paul Quinnett

Pavlov’s Trout answers that question and many more as it examines the mysteries of the sport of fishing through the microscope of modern psychology. Eminent psychologist and veteran fisherman Paul Quinnett, Ph.D., explores the many, often mysterious motivations that attract millions to the sport of fishing. In this lighthearted and insightful book,
Quinnett postulates that people fish to satisfy primitive instinct, connect to the wilderness, relieve stress, and to experience the optimism, freedom, and excitement of the pursuit. Pavlov’s Trout is truly a fishing book like no other — a venturing into the world of the psyche of the angler, a world where it is better to fish hopefully than to catch fish.

What others say …

“Pavlov’s Trout is a first-rate book” — Patrick McManus

Camper Van Conversion Guide

Camper Van Conversion Guide

by Shaun Thornburgh

Are you thinking of purchasing a Volkswagen Transporter with the intention of converting it into a Camper Van? Maybe you own one already and have thought about doing a conversion? The thought of being able to drive away for the weekend without having to book a hotel and have the complete freedom of the roads is a very tempting scenario.

Maybe you’re into surfing/extreme sports and you want to use your van to pitch and do what you love all weekendâ?¦

Perhaps you want to take the kids away on exciting adventures and camping tripsâ?¦

Or maybe you want to be able to go to festivals and stay in relative comfortâ?¦

As it happens I wanted to do all of the above! You probably already know that buying a Volkswagen Transporter and converting it is far cheaper than buying Volkswagen Camper Van. Better still in most cases you will add considerable value to your Transporter. However, are you a little overwhelmed with the task at hand; I know I was! Altering with the electrics to wire up additional devices such as the fridge, cutting a hole in the side of the van for additional windows, making the front seats swivel, these are just a few of the necessary tasks I had no idea about. The problem is the information out there is scarce, and sometimes unreliable. Why? They skip over many important parts and their diagrams are confusing and unclear. At one point I was almost ready to give up and let a specialist do the job. I turned to Google to help and there were various scraps of information but nothing complete and certainly nothing that filled me with the confidence I needed to embark on my task. If you are in this situation I understand your pain because I was once in your shoes! What if I told you that you can get the job done cheaper, faster and without the headaches by copying exactly what I did?!

Here are the chapters in the book:

Module 1: Introduction

Module 2: Planning Your Transformation

Module 3: Stripping the Van and Preparation

Complete Beginner's Guide to Picking a Martial Art

Complete Beginner’s Guide to Picking a Martial Art

by Chad Kunego

Everyone knows that what you put into a martial art is what you get out of it, but nobody ever seems to ask what you want out of a martial art to help you determine what you’re willing to put into it. A lot of people who would greatly enjoy and benefit from training in the martial arts are turned off because they picked the first style they came across at the local strip mall instead of really thinking about their reasons why they would want to take a style.

This is the only book on the Kindle marketplace that covers this information.

I wrote this book because everyone I met that learned I was into the martial arts always seemed to ask the same questions, like what’s the best one (depends on what you want to accomplish), or how good is such and such style, ( for what? Self defense or getting in shape?). After seeing these patterns and realized I went through the same questions, albeit a more abbreviated and quicker version, I decided to see if there was anything out there to answer these questions that I could refer someone to. After a few fruitless hours searching for different ways to ask this question on the Kindle â?¢, I realized that if I wanted something to address these questions, I needed to write it myself.

Every book I had come across always talked about how their style was the best, but never really said what they were the best for. Were they the best style to get in good physical shape with, best for defending yourself with, for competition, or something else?

What I hope to help you with is determining what you want out of a martial art style first, then determining where you are physically, then finally where you are mentally. From this framework, I hope to provide you a good framework to evaluate a martial art to determine if it’s going to be one that you’re going to enjoy taking and want to advance in it for years to come.

This isn’t a book about what the best style is, because nobody can answer that. A style that’s good at self defense might not be good in a sporting aspect since self defense doesn’t have rules, where a sporting event does.
