Cursed Immortals 1: Judas and the Vampires (Two Novels)

Cursed Immortals 1: Judas and the Vampires (Two Novels)

by Aiden James

Plague of Coins:

William Barrow carries a dark secret. A very dark secret.

An archivist for the Smithsonian Institute and also a part-time operative for the CIA, no one would ever suspect the handsome â??thirty-ish’ William is in fact the most reviled human being to ever walk the earth. His infectious warmth and sense of humor make such an assertion especially hard to believe.

But long ago, William Barrow had another nameâ?¦one that is synonymous with shame and betrayal: Judas Iscariot.

Forced to walk the earth as a cursed immortal, William/Judas is on a quest to reclaim the thirty silver shekels paid to him in exchange for Jesus Christ. Twenty-one coins have now been recoveredâ??thanks in large part to the help from his latest son, the esteemed Georgetown University history professor, Alistair Barrow.

Ever hopeful the complete coin collection will buy him a full pardon from God and end his banishment from heaven, William plans a visit to a remote village deep within Iran’s Alborz Mountains to retrieve â??silver coin number twenty-two’. But the CIA has a different objective for this trip, one that pits both father and son against an unscrupulous Russian billionaire searching for something else that’s just as precious within the ancient mountains of Iranâ?¦something that threatens peace in the modern world if William and Alistair fail to reach it first.

The Vampires’ Last Lover:

Txema Ybarra is the most unenviable nineteen-year-old girl alive.

Smart, pretty, and athletically gifted, this University of Tennessee freshman should be enjoying college life and her entrance into adulthood. And for a moment she doesâ?¦until the vampires show up.

Born with an unusual â??twin teardrop’ birthmark on her neck, Txema (pronounced Chema) is one of only a handful of females in the world who bear this trait. It marks her as a vessel of eternal youth and beauty for an elite vampire society determined to protect her precious bloodâ?¦. But it also is the only thing standing in the way of a rogue â??undead’ nation determined to destroy mankind and usurp the power their sexier brethren have held uncontested for centuries.

Caught in the middle of this war after all the other bearers of the birthmark are murdered, Txema must flee America and heads to France under the protection of five beautiful vampires who all have a vested interest in her survival. The race is on to save her blood, as well as her very life, to ensure the survival of Les Amantes de Vampire. Otherwise, Txema will be the last oneâ?¦the vampires’ last lover.

Acclaim for the novels of Aiden James:

“The intense writing style of Aiden James kept my eyes glued to the story and the pages seemed to fly by at warp speed. â?¦Twists, turns, and surprises pop up at random times to keep the reader off balance. It all blends together to create one of the best stories I have read all year.”
â??Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for The Devil’s Paradise

“Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one.”
â??Bookfinds review for The Forgotten Eden

“The hook to this excellent suspense thriller is the twists that will keep readers wondering what is going on as nothing is quite what it seemsâ?¦Aiden James provides a dark thriller that grips fans from the opening.”
â??Harriet Klausner, for The Forgotten Eden

“Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that Cades Cove snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit’s interaction became prevalent with the familyâ?¦ The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae’s (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we’ve seen before in horror and ghost tales.”
â??Evelyn Klebert, author of A Ghost of a Chance and Dragonflies

“Aiden James is insanely talented!”
â??J.R. Rain, author of Moon Dance and Vampire Moon

A NATION DIVIDED – THE SECOND CIVIL WAR (The Second Civil War – BOOK I)

by MARSHALL HUFFMAN

Wars do not just happen. No one gets up one morning and says â??I think I’ll start a war today.’ Wars take time to cultivate. They must be nurtured. Issues need to be unresolved and left simmering.

Why would any nation go to war with itself? How can there possibly be a winner? No one really wins in a Civil War. Once a Civil War starts there is no quick way to end it. No matter what the size of the opposing army or how advanced their weapons are, guerrilla warfare is the great equalizer.

The purpose of the government is to ensure our constitutional rights of freedom and liberty. But what happens when the government leaders decide that they know what is best in every aspect of our lives and that they have the authority to usurp the constitution?

There are many that are not sheep and will stand up and fight for what they feel is morally right. At some point the people will rise up and oppose those hell-bent on invalidating the Constitution. At that point we will have America’s SECOND CIVIL WAR.

This is Book 1, A NATION DIVIDED – The Preamble to War. It is a chilling view of one possible future for the United States of America.

Book 2, A NATION AT WAR, takes the reader through the years of the Second Civil War.

Book 3, A NATION HEALING, looks at how the nation tries to piece itself together once again.

KNIGHT'S BIG EASY (The E Z Knight Reports)

KNIGHT’S BIG EASY (The E Z Knight Reports)

by Gordon Kessler

KNIGHT’S BIG EASYâ??an Action/Adventure Thriller Novel

Killing is never easy for E Z Knight. But when he’s doing away with some really despicable bastards, it’s not all that difficult.

In Knight’s Big Easy: Voodoo, hoodoo and a girl named Poodoo make this year’s Mardi Gras the most fun but also the most dangerous party of all for E Z Knight!

Knight goes to New Orleans to find Parole Officer Tamara White Cloud’s AWOL USMC son, and finds out L/Cpl Billy White Cloud isn’t the only one who’s gone missing.

He uncovers the largest human trafficking organization since the US slave emancipation. Led by a Voodoo King named Papa Legba, the slave ring preys not only on young runaways and homeless children, but also kidnaps them from their own homes, and then sells them into prostitution and sweat-shop labor.

Knight works with a retired jazz musician named Black Zack who restores old horns in a shop called Jazzy Brass. They team up with FBI Special Agent Pooh Dooley to find Billy and to stop the slave-traders. However, Knight’s old musician sidekick might be more than he appears. Black Zack claims the hay in the back of his truck is for feeding his cousin’s goats. But when the pickup the old horn tooter’s driving is run off the road and catches fire, smoke from the alfalfa bales in the back gives Knight a high unlike any he’s had before.

Time is running out. A cargo ship loaded with over 500 children is away to the deepest waters in the Gulf. With the threat of being exposed, Papa Legba has ordered the ship sunk as soon as it reaches Sigsbee Deep. But Knight’s not that worried about dealing with the two-dozen armed men on the slave ship, or the nighttime HALO jump he must make to carry out the rescueâ??it’s the Voodoo Queen named Marie who won’t rest until she’s turned E Z Knight into a zombie that’s making his skin crawl.

A prequel to Knight’s Ransom, Knight’s Big Easy is the second novel in “The E Z Knight Reports”; a sexy, humorous and irreverent series as well as a somewhat realistic and poignant look at the darker side of life, crime and the human condition. With a modern-day, ramped up “The Rockford Files”/”Magnum PI” feel, a Jack Bauer-capable hero and a “24” pace, this series consists of stand-alone, page-thrumming novels.

“The E Z Knight Reports” has a special section on the author’s website and blog (gordonkessler.com) with info on each of the books, E Z Knight, Jazzy Brass and the “Knight Girls”. You’ll also find information about the author and his other novels and works.

If you enjoy best-selling action/adventure thriller authors like Don Winslow and Clive Cussler, as well as some of the best thrillers in eBooks by indie authors like John Locke and JA Konrath, you’ll love Knight’s Big Easy!

by Daniel Marques

Do you know that you are programmed to be who you are at this moment, with all your predicted successes and failures? Do you remember quitting your dreams? It was supposed to happen like this. All the advises you’ve received from the people around you, especially the ones that love you the most, were made to make you compile with the programming you and them are part of, so that nobody goes out of it. This program is so strong that interferes with our own emotions, identity and personality. The increasing number of people in the world, from children to adults, suffering from mental diseases, is a reflection of how strong this programming is. Nobody can escape it and those that try are condemned to failure and rejection by society. The law of attraction is just the point of the iceberg in the amount of power each being has to change everything in his reality. Most of what is being said about the law of attraction is just a demonstration of the whole truth interacting in the world. The fact is that the law of attraction can never be fully understood without understanding social programming and how the Power Elite is on Power in the first place, as well as how they keep it. It’s time to know what the Power Elite knows about you, how they think about you and how you’ve been helping them. Break free from the Paradigm and find the complete truth that has been hidden from you! During all the chapters of this book you will understand the complete system of the world where you live like it was never shown to you and a clear path to deprogram yourself and create a new believe system that will change your life as much as you want it to be changed. Boomercide: From Woodstock To Suicide

Boomercide: From Woodstock To Suicide

by Peter Levitan

Peter Levitan has scheduled his own death.

Peter believed that after working 35 years he had set up a smart retirement plan. After the housing collapse, the financial meltdown and the continuation of an unstable economy, he realized that there were just too many variables out of his control to make any plan a guarantee. This book is about how Peter takes back control by eliminating one of the biggest uncertainties in future financial planning; his own life expectancy.

Boomercide: From Woodstock to Suicide chronicles this Baby Boomer’s need for personal control over his future and his resulting decision to use suicide as a financial planning tool.

His research reveals that he is not alone. Baby Boomers haven’t saved nearly enough and have the highest suicide rates in the U.S. and that rate is dramatically on the rise.

Boomercide: From Woodstock to Suicide examines the concept of rational suicide, the act of suicide itself, religious and moral views about suicide, and Peter’s very personal decision to schedule his own death, complete with his family’s reaction.

Rational suicide as a solutionâ?¦ what do you think?

Dollar Default: How the Federal Reserve and the Government Betrayed Your Trust

Dollar Default: How the Federal Reserve and the Government Betrayed Your Trust

by Bill Cross

President Richard Nixon’s momentous decision to break the tie between the dollar and gold in August 1971 has become a legend in financial history. Nixon’s action was the final step in a 38 year process that began with FDR’s legislative initiatives. In 1933 FDR led the charge to end the right of the American people to own gold. Nixon’s action went one step further. This step ended the right of foreign nations to exchange their dollars for gold, and broke a long-standing covenant. Through this measure the final connection between the dollar and gold ended.

In Dollar Default, former Money Manager Bill Cross cuts through over three hundred years of propagandized faux history to voice a concise, balanced and opportune reminder that there was a profound reason the framers of the Constitution defined the dollar in terms of silver and gold.

By and large Americans have forgotten if not been told of their ancestors first experiments with paper money. It was disastrous, so much so that the framers insisted on defining the dollar in terms of silver and gold in terms of weight and measure. Dollar Default tells us why.

With a broad brush Bill Cross details the key moments in American financial history that have led us from paper money to sound money and back again to paper money. Written for the general reader who has a love of history Cross reveals the critical background information for a first step forward to greater understanding of money in America. With context being ever so important Cross takes us back to antiquity, brings us forward to early American history and then carries us up to the present day.

After reading Dollar Default you will have a solid grasp of the basics of American financial history, and why gold and silver were important in the founding of America.

Dollar Default will change forever the way you view the paper money in your wallet, and connect you again with your heritage.

I Am Lubo

I Am Lubo

by Lou Pechi

I Am Lubo, is a true story of growing up, before, during, and after the Holocaust. It tells about a child’s struggle, not only to survive, but also to keep his true identity throughout those difficult years. This is an inspirational story that needs to be told.

The story narrated through the eyes of Lubo, a young boy, who fascinated by the all the happenings is unaware of the dangers that surround him. Despite all the fear, humiliation, difficulties of constant movement, changes of identity, separation from his parents, Lubo remains upbeat and positive.

The German bombing of Belgrade, and the brutal prosecution of the Jews in Croatia that followed, shatter Lubo’s pre-war idyllic life in Zagreb, Croatia. To save their lives Lubo’s parents flee to Italy. Not knowing what awaits them, they leave seven year old Lubo with his aunt, married to his Catholic uncle. Two years later, at the age of eight someone informs the Nazis and he is arrested and ready to be sent to the concentration camp in Germany. Through intervention of friends and relatives he is released six hours before the scheduled convoy departure and smuggled to his parents in Italy. The family relative safety in Treviso, Italy is broken by the German invasion that forces them to flee again to Rome, where the Allies eventually liberate them. After the liberation, Lubo returns to Communist Yugoslavia, emigrates to Israel, and finally arrives to the United States.

As the number of Holocaust survivors shrinks daily their memories will be lost. This is one of the many stories about the Holocaust that has an urgency to be told. It differs from others, since it shows the triumph of a child’s spiritual and physical survival and the goodness of many people who risk their lives to save his.

The Borgias: The Lives and Legacies of Rodrigo, Cesare, and Lucrezia Borgia

The Borgias: The Lives and Legacies of Rodrigo, Cesare, and Lucrezia Borgia

by Charles River Editors

*Analyzes the Borgias’ legacies and how it endured over the centuries.
*Examines the legends and rumors surrounding the Borgias in an attempt to separate fact from fiction.
*Includes pictures depicting the Borgias and important people and places in their lives. .
*Includes a Bibliography for further reading.
*Includes a Table of Contents.

“Alexander never did what he said.
Cesare never said what he did.” – Italian Proverb

The stories and legends attributed to the Borgias have made them one of the most notorious families in history. 500 years after their deaths, they have come to be associated more with incest, political intrigue, murder and state-sponsored violence. While 21st century TV series have cast the Borgias as the first organized crime family, the rumors spread by the family’s political opponents in the late 15th century have taken hold among a fascinated public. Did Cesare really have an incestuous relationship with sister Lucrezia? Did the pope really throw lavish orgies?

While Rodrigo may not have been as colorful or criminal as the enduring legends, there is no question he was manipulative, ruthless and, ultimately, effective. From an administrative standpoint, Rodrigo was a success as Pope Alexander VI, with a big assist from son Cesare. In one of the most famous political treatises in history, Niccolo Machiavelli famously advises those who hold power that it is better to be feared than loved. Though he uses Cesare as a cautionary tale about acquiring power through the good-will and powers of another person (his father, Pope Alexander VI), it is clear in The Prince that Machiavelli holds out Cesare as a skillful, effective ruler and administrator. In many ways, Cesare has been characterized as the “prince” Machiavelli tells his readers to be. As one translator of The Prince put it, Cesare is “cited as a type of the man who rises on the fortune of others, and falls with them; who takes every course that might be expected from a prudent man but the course which will save him; who is prepared for all eventualities but the one which happens; and who, when all his abilities fail to carry him through, exclaims that it was not his fault, but an extraordinary and unforeseen fatality.”

The world has always had a fascination with femme fatales, and few historical women have ever been portrayed as one quite like Lucrezia Borgia. Lucrezia is a baseless, immoral villain in Victor Hugo’s Lucrezia Borgia, and she continues to be depicted as a schemer and manipulator on par with her famous brother and father in film and critically acclaimed television series. Indeed, it would be hard to find another woman in the historical record who is remembered in any way comparable to the legacy of Lucrezia that remains nearly 500 years after her death.

The great irony is that Lucrezia’s reputation seems to be wildly at odds with the actual woman herself. Though political opponents of the Borgias successfully portrayed Lucrezia as an incestuous schemer, Lucrezia was unusually moral for a powerful woman during the Renaissance. Aside from adultery, hardly unusual in that era, Lucrezia proved to be both an efficient and benevolent ruler when her husband was away from Ferrara, and the two of them had an unusually close and loving relationship in an era where political marriages were made out of convenience, not love.

The Borgias chronicles the lives, intrigues, myths and legends of the famous family in an attempt to separate fact from fiction. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events in their lives, you will learn about Rodrigo, Cesare, and Lucrezia Borgia like you never have before, in no time at all.

Revisionism, Radical Experimentation, and Dystopia in Keith Giffen's Legion of Super-Heroes

Revisionism, Radical Experimentation, and Dystopia in Keith Giffen’s Legion of Super-Heroes

by Julian Darius

No other run divides Legion of Super-Hero fans like Keith Giffen’s. To detractors, it dismantled everything good about the series.

In this short book, Dr. Julian Darius argues that Giffen’s run offered an ambitious and unprecedented response to the growing maturity of super-hero comics — one that, far from trashing Legion history, actually respected it.

The contents of this book previously appeared in TEENAGERS FROM THE FUTURE: ESSAYS ON THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES.

The Art of Money-Getting according to P.T. Barnum (for the 21st century)

The Art of Money-Getting according to P.T. Barnum (for the 21st century)

by Ivo Dias de Sousa

“If you have been thinking for a while about doing something that doesn’t cost much in terms of effort and won’t be the end of the world even if it turns into a failure, then do it.”
P.T. Barnum was a showman, an entertainer and a businessman. Back in 1880 he published a book, Art of Money Getting, where he gave 19th century folks advice on how to make money or, at least, live a financially stable life.
In this fictional book by Portuguese author Ivo Da Sousa, Barnum’s spirit, who’s been watching over humanity from above for the past century, decides to speak to modern individuals and give them a lesson or two on how in today’s times of crisis, they can start their own business and make it grow into a profitable activity.
From how to manage your own finances, and the importance of persevering when following your dreams, to the importance of focusing energy on one specific goal, and ensuring you keep your integrity, this ‘modern version’ of Barnum’s book is an essential guide to understand the real meaning of entrepreneurship and is packed with useful lessons on how to be successful in business.

A girl with a blighted past and a fortune she deems a curse, Gina has lowered herself in order to find escape from her family and their scheming designs. But when she is found, the stakes suddenly become dire.

All Gina wants is the freedom to live her life as she would wish. All her aunts want is the money that comes with her. But there is more than one way to trap an insect. An arranged marriage might turn out profitable for more parties than one.

Mr. Hamilton is about to make the acquisition of a lifetime. But will the price be worth it? Can a woman captured and acquired learn to love the man who has bought her?

Proxy War (Phantom War Trilogy)

Proxy War (Phantom War Trilogy)

by E.L. Speed

PROXY WAR
Volume One: Phantom War Trilogy
Written by E.L. Speed
Foreword by Dr. Angela Browne-Miller
“Proxy War immerses us in a fascinating yet chilling, romantic yet troubling story of love, war, heroism, confusion, and intrigue. Against the disturbing backdrop and hidden truth about the Vietnam War, E.L. Speed’s fascinating piece of historical fiction, Proxy War, tells the tale of two dishonest and strong willed presidents, a young diplomat on the brink of treason, and its star protagonist, a naval aviator and war hero. This hero, living the moral dilemma of the period, is increasingly and dangerously conflicted about his role in the War. Nevertheless, he puts his life on the line daily as he fights a Proxy War in the skies over Vietnam. Modern warfare and international affairs teach us that a proxy war is a particular type of war, a war played out in someone else’s backyard in hopes of keeping it away from homeâ?¦.
“Proxy War is indeed far, far more than a war story. This is the timeless story of the search for honor, truth, and dignity – all in the context of an intensely controversial war and a perilous global Cold War reality, both landmark predicaments of those times. The reader glimpses death as an acceptable solution but only if it is not meaningless. Duty, a rather complex psychological phenomenon, provides the key to understanding choices made, such as the choice to continue fighting while questioning war’s very raison d’etre.”

The Greenfields of Greenfield House

The Greenfields of Greenfield House

by Raymond Boyd Dunn

George Greenfield has been described as the man with the Midas touch. With a fortune at his disposal, and not being satisfied with being commemorated with a normal headstone upon his death, he builds a ‘castle’ in the Australian bush. His family become the ‘Royalty’ of the Australian bush’, and Greenfield House is to be the monument to his success. Over the course of six generations up to the present day, it has been a tribute to his prosperity and business acumen – not to mention his good fortune – and the ownership of such a magnificent citadel is passed down from son to son. It was George’s wish that Greenfield House should always remain in the possession of a Greenfield son!

Henrietta Street

Henrietta Street

by J.D. Oswald

How do you face your future if your past was a lie?

1780, a time of upheaval: the American colonies almost lost, stirrings of industrial revolution, challenges to social norms. In a hamlet in Devon, Eve Martin watches helplessly as a fire destroys nearby Knowle Manor, the home of the Crosse family. The family decamps to their London house on Henrietta Street near Covent Garden, and Eve is invited to stay. From there she encounters John Stuart, a freed slave, now living and working in London. As secrets are gradually revealed, Eve and the Crosse family struggle with past burdens and future decisions.

Inspired by the lives of historical figures John Stuart, an anti-slavery campaigner, and Richard Crosse, a miniature portrait painter, the novel explores questions of identity and self-fulfilment, the ties of love and family, and the repercussions of slavery.

Once, A God of No Consequence

Once, A God of No Consequence

by Jan Vivian

The idea for this very short story was inspired by a newspaper article dealing with near death experiences. It was also informed by a moment’s research of a name inscribed on a war memorial plaque in Harbury, Warwickshire that the author visited quite recently. The holder of a Military Medal, and bar, is upon it, a man who served in the 55th Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps and died a few weeks before the Armistice in 1918.

Remembrance Day honours all who served, combatants and those who gave up their lives in the performance of their duties in bringing succour and care, in extremis.

She Built Ships During WW II (She Flew Bombers)

She Built Ships During WW II (She Flew Bombers)

by Jeane Slone

With meticulous research on WWII era, Slone weaves an intricate story of cruelty, compassion and love, reminding us of the injustice of the internment of Japanese Americans and racial prejudice in the armed forces. The courage of women welders who built ships while their husbands were at war is depicted so well that the characters come to life. We watch the heroine, Lolly, struggle to keep her family together while she works as a welder and her husband is away. A tender romance is threaded throughout the book and we agonize with her as she brings it to an inevitable conclusion. Between the fascinating and sometimes little known historical facts, and the larger than life sympathetic characters, the book is a page-turner to the very end.
Alla Crone, author of Rodina and The Other Side of Life.

Chronicles of Owen : Nkandla Magic

Chronicles of Owen : Nkandla Magic

by Claude Nunes

School can be a drag, sometimes. Nevertheless, the last day of school is fun, this one being no exception. Trying to teach classes, with all this adrenalin flowing, was useless in any case, and most teachers allowed the children more freedom than usual. Students were wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, and acted as though they had just eaten heaps of sugar-laden sweets and sipped on too many soft drinks.
When Owen and Jabu leave for holiday, they have no idea what lurks in the forests ….

Clearwater Falls

Clearwater Falls

by J Richard Knapp

Deep in the heart of the great oak forest a gigantic towering mountain rises above the green meadows at its base. The mountain’s snow covered peak disappears into a cluster of fluffy clouds high in the sky. The steep rocky slopes with patches of white snow resemble the face of an old warrior ever-watching for danger in the valley below. A small stream of icy cold water bounces over boulders and works itself between the jagged rocks on the path down the rugged mountainside. The stream continues to grow larger and larger, as it flows downward into the surrounding meadows below, cutting a path through the green grasses and the blue flowers blooming here and there. The small stream transforms into a powerful river, swirling and churning toward the oak forests on the far side of the meadow. The river continues to grow faster and stronger, as it enters the edge of the forest and forcefully clears a passage through the trees and over the rocky ground – disappearing into a cloud of mist and a thunderous noise of cold water crashing over a high cliff onto the boulders below. A cold wet mist floats back up the sides of the cliff and into the air. The river flows out of the boulders and mist into a deep pool of water and begins to move calmly through the old oak forests. This is Clearwater Falls – home to the Majda – ancient relatives of gnomes! The Majda live in distinctive homes built inside the bottom of the giant oak trees next to Clearwater Falls. Majda warriors move through the forest quickly and quietly, never seen, never heard, protecting the village and the different creatures of the forest. Their great powers and strength help them to fight the trolls and goblins. Some Majdas can speak to each other through their minds without saying a word out loud – some have very special powers to speak the language of all creatures. The great leader of the Majda is Sagar. Aji and Kera are Sagar’s twin grandchildren. The twins are believed to have special powers that one day will save the village from a great danger.

Star Watchers: Inspirational, Romantic and Dark Poems that Merge to Tell a Single Story

Star Watchers: Inspirational, Romantic and Dark Poems that Merge to Tell a Single Story

by Kelly Vang

“Nourishment is not only required for the body, but for the mind and soul. Not only do we need to exercise our bodies, we need to exercise our spirit. The poetry in Star Watchers nurtures through the beauty and power of words.” -Liana Jennings, LA Times

Star Watchers is a collection of over 50 diverse poems, where a handful of selected poems merge to tell a greater story, of love, darkness and the hard-earned journey of life. The book captivates the imagination, provokes fear and leaves readers in wonder with a shocking discovery. Several poems are inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.

The challenge is to figure out which poems piece together the larger story called, Star Watchers. The key is to pay close attention to the reappearance of characters and phrases; particularly, the series of poems also entitled, Star Watchers.

Star Watchers uses fantasy, horror, and inspirational elements to provoke new ways of seeing the human condition. The poetry depicts unhappy, nervous, bitter and clever individuals; they found themselves in both triumphs and defeats. Unfortunately, these characters often met with the fate of tragedy and unexpected twist. Their misfortunes serve not only to entertain but also to inform its readership. Each poem and each character draws out a meaningful message for readers to take away with them. Yet, after piecing the poems together, there is an even bigger story-left for readers to determine for themselves.

Cut

Cut

by Roger Harrison

This is a book of 10 original poems about cutting. These poems may me disturbing to some readers but cutting is a silent epidemic. It is estimated that more than one million people in the United States cut their selves or self abuse their self each day. Most are teens and some are adults. Almost all are silent about it. If a problem is not confronted and talked about how can it ever be solved? If you cut please talk to someone you trust and seek help. If you know somebody who cuts please help them by getting them help. Please remember when you cut you are not hurting the person who is hurting you. You are only hurting yourself.

by Steve Robison

Molten Lava, Poems of Passion, is a collection of poetry by Steve (Stevie Ray) Robison.

Sweet nectar within
It fascinates the waiting tongue
Fills the heart with an insatiable craving
For more of that perfect elixir

Craving grows with the first hint of its essence
Filling the dark and warm spaces
Shared by two
Feasting on the brash divinity

Sweet nectar flowing
Spilled into an open mouth
Parched from the wait
Needing to be filled

Swallowing the luscious fluid
They both enjoy the lofty sensations
Mixed in the dawning moment
Of the sharing of sweet perfection

Sweet nectar shared
Fills the craving as nothing else can
Satisfied for a time
In the wondrous flow of joining life

Broken Pottery

Broken Pottery

by Joan K. Smith

Very Topical and even Metafictional!

This fictional book is great for discussions of politics, religion, and life. You know – those things you aren’t supposed to talk to anybody about to keep the peace?

Do we all exist in Heaven before becoming human? Is our life on Earth a test to see if we then get to spend Eternity with God? Does evil exist? Do evil spirits exist? Is there anything to the December 21, 2012 Mayan prophecy or other political, environmental, or astronomical events suggesting we may be living in the END TIMES? What does it mean to be Christian in the year 2012 and beyond? Is God even in control? These questions and many more are answered in the pages of Broken Pottery.

Janice Thresher is the typical middle class suburban teen of the 1980’s. Living near Pittsburgh, PA, she follows her high school sweetheart off to Penn State where he proceeds to dump her. She copes with her loss by partying heavily until God brings a new love into her life. In a cruel twist of fate, this love was not meant to last either.

On the other side of the country in Southern California, Sophie Ulsrey, a girl several years younger than Janice, spends her time trying to hide ugly scars sustained after a terrible auto accident in which she lost her father. The accident, and her mother’s reaction to it, drives Sophie to achieve wealth and fame as she becomes an adult.

As adults, the lives of Janice and Sophie divinely intersect in time to warn fellow Americans of a government cover-up to hide important factual information with apocalyptic national security implications. Just as it was in 1938 when an American radio audience believed Orson Welles’ “War of the Worlds” broadcast to be truth instead of fiction, many readers of Broken Pottery will be tempted to check their cell phones and digital libraries just to make sure they, too, are reading only a book of fiction.

Broken Pottery takes you on a suspenseful adventure through the years 1965-2020, taking on the real difficulties we all have in life, dramatizes them, and provides a considered, thoughtful view of how we tackle them. 21 Study questions for self-reflection or group study are included. Below is an example of three of them:

2. Does God want us to question our beliefs?

9. Do you believe there are both heavenly and demonic forces at work in your life and in the lives of all of us?

17. Do you believe that the “ends justify the means?” Who gets to decide which “ends” are important enough that the “means” are justified? Why?

Blue Christmas (The Moody Blue Trilogy | Book One)

Blue Christmas (The Moody Blue Trilogy | Book One)

by Diane Moody

Over forty-five “5 Star” reviews.

Blue Christmas

Working late on Christmas Eve, college senior Hannah Brooks is in the midst of a full-blown pity party. When a last-minute customer brimming with holiday spirit invites her to a candlelight service and a late-night family dinner, Hannah reluctantly accepts. She has no idea this kindhearted woman is the mother of Jason McKenzie – leader singer of Out of the Blue, the hottest band in the country – and Hannah’s childhood idol. The evening ends with an innocent kiss (sans mistletoe) as Hannah is swept away by Jason’s unpretentious manner.

Over the holidays Hannah and Jason’s relationship grows, but when turmoil and tragedy strike at the very heart of his famous band, their newfound love is put to the test in the glare of the paparazzi spotlight. Throughout her rollercoaster of experiences with Jason and his friends, Hannah comes face to face with her own beliefs. Who knew she could learn more about prayer and faith by hanging out with a bunch of rock stars than she ever learned in church?

The author first wrote Blue Christmas as a gift for her then-teenage daughter in honor of her affection for a wildly popular band in the late 90s. The short story grew into a full-length novel, eventually surfacing on one of the band’s fan fiction websites where it became quite a phenomenon. More than 80,000 readers stopped by to read the story, with over 1000 of them sending personal emails to the author who still enjoys reading them today. Though the story’s details have been changed, its band and all characters now fictional, the story line remains the same. Author Diane Moody has dedicated Blue Christmas to her now-grown daughter, Hannah Moody Schmitt.

Blue Like Elvis (The Moody Blue Trilogy | Book Two)

Blue Like Elvis (The Moody Blue Trilogy | Book Two)

by Diane Moody

Do you remember where you were the day Elvis died?
I do. I know exactly where I was.
I was there.

In the spring of 1977, Shelby Colter moved back to Memphis, Tennessee hoping to make a fresh start after breaking off her engagement. Working as a patient representative hostess at Baptist Memorial Hospital–the world’s largest private hospital–she’s thrilled with her new job, assisting patients with their non-medical needs. She has to laugh at her colorful co-workers who constantly chat about Elvis-sightings. After all, Baptist Memorial was “Elvis’s hospital.”

Shelby hits the ground running, taking care of her patients, getting to know her new friends, and bumping into . . . Dr. Tucker Thompson? Who knew that annoying kid who used to hang out with her big brother was now a resident at Baptist Memorial Hospital? Little Chubby Tucker–a compassionate, handsome doctor?

As the summer rolls along, three people she loves face life-threatening situations, drawing Shelby back to her faith. And then one night, in a hospital prayer room, she pours out her heart to a most unexpected visitor . . .

Blue Like Elvis is loosely based on the author’s real-life experiences while working at Baptist Memorial Hospital in the summer of 1977. While most of the novel is fiction, the setting of Shelby’s adventures are based on the author’s memories of those days in Memphis leading up to that unforgettable day . . . the day Elvis died.

Clown Friday

Clown Friday

by Edward Parker

Clown Friday

The week ends in blood

Marlowe. A small, picturesque town in the Worcestershire Countryside. Village green, white church spire, maypole

A quaint town.

A beautiful town.

An evil town….

Journalist Clive White is sent to cover Marlowe’s annual carnival Clown Friday: an easy and straight forward assignment. But, as he interviews the locals, and as he uncovers the true history and nature of the town and its carnival, it becomes clear that there is something very wrong in Marlowe.

Jane Brennan, also a journalist and Clive White’s lover, was once a resident of Marlowe. She knows the town and the ways of small town folk. And she knows that the festival is not a carnival of joy and revelry but a circus of fear and a carnival of blood.

Together Jane and Clive are gripped by a journey into horror. Survival will depend upon the choice of paths in a mirror maze, or the slice of an evil jester’s axe. And while there is an article to be written and a story to be told, they realise that the story is a dark one. It is the story of something ancient, vile, and evil, something that lusts after spilled blood and human flesh. It is a story of horror that the town of Marlowe has been waiting centuries to be told.

Wood Life: A Poem

Wood Life: A Poem

by Rich Ristow

As a serial killer, Daniel David Silvestre has memory problems. He can’t recall why he kills people or why he is constantly compelled to spill blood with the edge of knife. He cannot even remember most of the names of his victims, and he takes no joy in his actions. As a way to make peace with himself, he must first learn to take responsibility and gain control over his actions.

This book length poem was written as a “fake journal” that took inspiration from Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s “A Coney Island of the Mind.” It is filled with intentional typos and fragmented lines, as this poetic sequence actively tries to mimic a scribbled an ADHD-addled psycho might have jotted down on scattered bits of paper.

“Much of what gets published as ‘horror poetry’ is, alas, neither horrific nor poetic–but Rich Ristow’s Wood Life stands as a darkly triumphant exception. In this astonishing long poem Ristow takes us into the mind of ‘Danny Boy,’ a prolific serial killer. We get to know, in often graphic detail, of his obsessions and his crimes; but we also see the bewildered, tormented human being behind them, as Danny Boy reflects on his ‘congress of the killed’ and finds himself haunted by the ‘ghost hatred’ of his victims. Here is a poem of tremendous cumulative impact, with a main character as memorable as Robert Bloch’s Norman Bates or the psychopathic Quentin of Joyce Carol Oates’s Zombie. But make no mistake–Ristow is a true poet, and Wood Life is not only frightening, but frighteningly well written, with language and imagery that will haunt you long after you’ve closed the book. Ristow’s Wood Life is the real thing. I stand in awe.” –Christopher Conlon, author of Starkweather Dreams and Midnight on Mourn Street

Excerpt:

1.

Out of the woods, numb
and not thinking, I walked
half crumbling county roads
through mountain towns,
not stopping to shop or sleep
on a stiff motel mattress.
I stayed off barstools, away
from taverns televising
Pirates or old Penguins
games. I will not remember
the remains, what I buriedâ??
willing amnesia, forced
forgetting is an anesthetic
needed for new beginnings,
a new life free of old haunts.
So, I let cars pass, refusing
to thumb a ride and hitchhike.
One foot in front of the otherâ??
it’s been days since I dreamt,
and as I sweat in September,
under overcast skies, away
from those terrible hills,
valleys, and hollows, specters
of Appalachia are behind me.
â??
2.

Home

is where moss covers the walls
from floor to ceiling. Slanted
light is not a certainty, the drapes
are tattered and frayed. The end
is not an inevitable outcome here
and sleep is but a dirty mattress
crowded by the brittle husks
of grease stained take out bags.
â??
3.

This morning, I woke from dreams of a deserted street,
where men with halos of flies walked, and the women
all sat on park benches and read newspapers. Headlines
taunted “The Forgotten Son Returns,” but none of them
seemed to care about the picture: me with my messed-up
face, a large scar parting my hair right down the middle.
So now, naked, I eat donuts. It seems like a harsh riddle,
as I search for my socks, my shoes, and my coffee cup.
Dressed, I surf the internet for stories. Once again,
there’s nothing I’ve foreseen, not even government fines
imposed on dreamers. There was a drunken time when
I found this amusing, but these mornings always repeat
where weakly, I crawl and claw my way out of my bed,
and it feels like skyscrapers are crammed inside my head.

Inside the Giant Machine: An Amazon.com Story (Breaking Away Chains Cover)

Inside the Giant Machine: An Amazon.com Story (Breaking Away Chains Cover)

by Kalpanik S.

Author’s Response to the call for banning this Book: The book captures my true feelings about working at Amazon which were recorded as they happened, and cover both the good & the bad. Some Amazon managers & fans are uncomfortable about the bad and are calling for a ban on this book. However, I don’t believe Jeff Bezos believes in censorship. I am confident that Amazon will continue to resist the pressure from such misguided attempts.

I deny I am a member of Conspiracy For Good. There is no CFG or any other insignia embedded on the cover of the book, just a discoloration.
——-
DESCRIPTION:

Behind Amazon’s quirky smile logo lurks a cold and calculating giant machine. Author Kalpanik S. reveals his own smile as he tells the somewhat quirky story of his complex, and often hilarious, relationship with Amazon. From the sophisticated wit in his portrayal of the courtship period in “How To Get Hired By Amazon In Ten Days”, to the dark humor of the disillusionment period in “The Cold, Calculating Machine”, Kalpanik’s story is more than just an insider’s view of the giant machine known as Amazon.com. It’s a modern, universal story of the uneasy relationship between an individual and today’s gargantuan corporations. In the end, it is also a story of redemption for creative and free thinking individuals that define America.

About the Author

Kalpanik S. is the pen name of a foreign-born technologist. He came to the USA on a fellowship from the University of California to do research in Computer Science. After completing his Graduate studies, Kalpanik worked at several technology companies in various parts of the United States including Silicon Valley in California and Se. He has been writing a journal about his “journey'” through the US, and he finally decided to get it published.

The True Peruvian Route: An ascent of Aconcagua, South America's highest mountain (Footsteps on the Mountain travel diaries)

The True Peruvian Route: An ascent of Aconcagua, South America’s highest mountain (Footsteps on the Mountain travel diaries)

by Mark Horrell

Mountaineering is an activity where true elation and deep disappointment thrive in equal measure. Nothing exemplifies this more than the story of Mark Horrell’s two attempts on Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the world outside Asia, and one of the Seven Summits. This is the story of the second happier half.

In 2005 the author set off up the Normal Route on Aconcagua’s western side, possibly one of the most boring routes on a big mountain anywhere in the world. He spent several weeks staring up a huge featureless scree slope, before giving up much too easily on a cold summit day at the instigation of an over-cautious guide who didn’t seem particularly bothered about reaching the summit.

In 2010 he tried the other side of the mountain, a much more interesting climb, and was privileged to be guided by a man who had climbed the mountain more times than any other. It soon became clear to him that you don’t get a record like that unless you really care about getting to the top every time you set foot on the mountain.

It was an altogether different experience, and one with many happy memories. The True Peruvian Route is the author’s travel journal from his expedition, and will be a valuable reference to anyone who is thinking of climbing South America’s highest mountain with a commercial tour operator, or anyone with an interest in mountaineering and the Seven Summits (highest mountains on each continent) in general. The book includes many photographs of the trek and climb.

The Wrath of the Turquoise Goddess: Battling blizzards on Cho Oyu, the world's sixth highest mountain (Footsteps on the Mountain travel diaries)

The Wrath of the Turquoise Goddess: Battling blizzards on Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth highest mountain (Footsteps on the Mountain travel diaries)

by Mark Horrell

In the Autumn of 2010, Mark Horrell set off to Tibet with a dozen other hopeful mountaineers, including an Olympic rowing champion and a former Welsh rugby international, to climb 8201m Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world, whose name translates as the Turquoise Goddess in Tibetan.

It was to be an extraordinary season on the mountain believed to be the simplest and safest 8000 metre peak in the world. Battered by blizzards for weeks, many climbers were caught in avalanches, and the mountain was abandoned by nearly all the teams at Base Camp before a single summit had been attained, but perhaps even more remarkably no one had died.

The eventual tally for the season was just two successful summits and one death. This is Mark Horrell’s diary from the expedition, and tells the story of how events unfolded on what was to prove one of the least successful climbing seasons Cho Oyu has seen. It includes many of the author’s photographs.

“A champion is someone who gets up when he can’t.” – Jack Dempsey

“To prove I am great, he will fall in eight.” – Muhammad Ali

“Everybody in boxing probably makes out well except for the fighter.” – Mike Tyson

During a time when America’s heroes were recognized for toughness and strength, Jack Dempsey was the prototypical “golden boy” of the Roaring Twenties. Just as Babe Ruth, Red Grange, Bill Tilden and Bobby Jones were the signature figures for their respective sports, Dempsey personified the sport of boxing.

Dempsey’s aggressive style in the ring and the punch he packed made him the heavyweight champion by 1913, and by the time Dempsey lost the title to U.S. Marine Gene Tunney in 1926 and retired following their controversial 1927 rematch (a fight known as “The Long Count”), he was one of the most popular and richest athletes in history, and he parlayed that into success in everything from owning a restaurant to authoring books.

The sports world has never suffered from a shortage of self-promoters, but none have ever walked the walk and backed up the talk like Muhammad Ali, boxing’s greatest icon and possibly history’s most famous athlete. Indeed, even referring to Ali just as a boxer does a disservice to the transcendent figure he has become around the world as a living legend.

Of course, the legend of Ali begins in the squared circle, where a young, brash kid named Cassius Clay rose to the top of the boxing world with a style so unorthodox that anyone else attempting it would all but assure he’d get knocked out. But Ali became the heavyweight champ by keeping his hands low, “floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee”, and outboxing heavyweight champions like Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, and Floyd Patterson. Though he was both loved and hated during his career, since his retirement, Ali has remained one of sports’ greatest icons across the globe, and he has been honored with too many awards to count. Held in awe just about everywhere, Ali has lit the torch at the Olympics, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and received the Presidential Citizens Medal, among other honors.

Iron Mike Tyson was one of the most feared opponents to ever step into a boxing ring. With unbelievable power that floored or stopped all but two of his first 28 professional opponents, Tyson began an unprecedented ascent to the top of the boxing world, becoming the youngest champion in history with a second round TKO over Trevor Berbick, the last man to box and defeat Muhammad Ali. That victory, in November 1986, prompted one British sports reporter to write, “The noble and manly art of boxing can at least cease worrying about its immediate future, now it has discovered a heavyweight champion fit to stand alongside Dempsey, Tunney, Louis, Marciano and Ali.”

Tyson became one of the biggest names in sports during the 1980s and could literally do no wrong in the ring, compiling a 37-0 record with 33 KO/TKOs. Unfortunately, as everyone knows today, the unprecedented nature of his rise is rivaled only by his stunning fall from grace. Tyson lost one of the sport’s greatest upsets to Buster Douglas before going to prison for rape. And when Tyson got out of prison, his career simply became surreal. After winning a few belts back, he lost two bouts to Evander Holyfield, infamously biting part of Holyfield’s ear off out of frustration during the rematch. The man once billed as an all time great was now more of a one man circus than anything else.

Knockout Kings chronicles the lives, legends and controversies of the 3 iconic boxers with pictures, bibliographies and more. Learn about Dempsey, Ali and Tyson like you never have before.

Tigers and Tamangs: How not to do a Nepalese adventure travel reconnaissance (Footsteps on the Mountain travel diaries)

Tigers and Tamangs: How not to do a Nepalese adventure travel reconnaissance (Footsteps on the Mountain travel diaries)

by Mark Horrell

“We’re going to spend a few weeks exploring some remote parts of Nepal,” said Mark Horrell’s friend Tina when he met her at a restaurant in Kathmandu. “Why don’t you join us?”

He’d just finished his job the previous week and didn’t have anything better to do with his time, so when she invited him to join her and partner Siling as they went on a reconnaissance to obscure parts of Nepal gathering data for their trekking company, he didn’t need very long to think about it.

When he returned to Kathmandu after a month in Tibet, they set out for the west of Nepal to look for wildlife in Bardia National Park, and a slightly bizarre set of escapades involving the Nepalese Army, a tame rhino, and a surreal rafting trip ensued, all the while carrying out a desperate crusade to see a tiger.

After returning to Kathmandu via Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, he set off trekking with Siling and his friend Maila in the Langtang and Helambu regions north of Kathmandu. The Nepali mountain boys set off at a brisk pace, determined to test Mark’s fitness after his expedition to Everest. But could he keep up with them?

Tigers and Tamangs is Mark Horrell’s travel diary from the reconnaissance and would be of interest to any fan of adventure travel, trekking and safari. It also features many of his photographs from the trip.
