Watery Graves

by Kelli Bradicich

Emmy is cursed to die in a watery grave. She lives by Mercy River, a river that has drowned everyone related to her. Her mother, Ingrid lives in fear that Emmy will be next. Emmy believes it will find a way to take them both.

Emmy and Ingrid share a mountain top home with Maya and Kristian, and their son Sebastian. Their life is simple and self-sufficient. Their relationships with each other deeply connected as a close-knit family. The curse that hangs over Emmy’s head keeps everyone vigilant. Her family teaches her to swim in case she needs it one day. The Mercy Falls community looks on with interest and entertains themselves with endless gossipy judgements about the family’s weird ways. All those with a memory of the deaths hold tight to a common thought that one day the river will take Emmy and Ingrid too. That belief has become a fatalistic community fact before their deaths have even happened.

Sebastian is the one who begins to think differently first. He steps out into the wider world defying the paddock fences that aim to keep them safe but hemmed in. He discovers things that he wants to share with Emmy. Emmy has no interest in change and desperately wants him to go back to the way he was.

When Maya gets sick, she becomes Sebastian’s greatest ally. She too begins to think that it would be safer in the end for Sebastian and Emmy to learn to be out and free to roam the streets of Mercy Falls. She uses her wisdom to draw Ingrid around. They begin to see that being sheltered can be a danger in itself.

The river rises and falls through all the grief, loss, new love and change. With all the good Mercy Falls township brings, bad comes tumbling in with it. Emmy fights it all the way. The more that is lost, the more she realises there is to lose. The further Emmy strays from her sheltered world, the greater the chances that Mercy River will take her too. Will her survival depend on the mercy of the town people, the mercy of the river or both? As Emmy’s mountain world crumbles she tempts fate and learns the value of facing her fears.

The Ornament

by Zeke Changuris

The Ornament is a story spun from the romantic ideals shaped by the works of Bronte, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Austen and Cervantes. In my formative years, I was glued to the screen watching old black and white tales of love as they played on television on weekend afternoons. The stories of loss and unrequited love filled my imagination leaving me with, in some ways, a warped sense of what love was. I guess the line from the Man of La Mancha “To love pure and chaste from afar” summed up my almost Victorian sense of romance. I quickly became an expert on romance, relationships and broken hearts for others but unable to find or act on that advice for myself leaving me constantly in the company old friends like Anne of Green Gables and Lizzie Bennet.

When I found myself working in a newsroom, falling for a reporter and doing all I could to make her notice me as more than a friend, I needed an outlet. That is how The Ornament was born. The story was conceived in the early hours of the morning on a dirty desk from the Rubbermaid collection in a small-market newsroom in between bouts of breaking news and chamber of commerce breakfast meetings.

I wrote and rewrote the story adding and subtracting never knowing where this more romantic world would take me. I remember truly being happy when I realized what was going to happen next, or that time I was driving to work and began to cry as I realized what tragedy was about to befall our hero. The characters may have started out as copies of people I knew, and even myself, but after countless rewrites each one became an amalgam of many people I’ve met in my career.

The Ornament is, if anything, a statement of my firm belief that a true friendship, even a chaste one, is an example of love more powerful than all the passion ever kindled.

Stay off my Grass!

Now strangely to a nosy detective, all the drug dealers close to Pearl street had disappeared; a mystery he curiously decided to investigate. Pearl street was a quiet stretch in a crime infested neighborhood, another reason detective Harding couldn’t keep his thoughts off the serene road; especially since Crego, a drug lord of unimaginable cruelty and terror was nowhere to be found. The whole thing just didn’t add up…

Sidoscope Fingerprints Volume 1

by Siddhesh Kabe

Assorted collection of five short stories are based on medieval world and themed around â??war’ and battle. I always loved the medieval ages of kings and queens. The time when battle were fought using the brains and soldiers. Revenge were taken at a amazing breath-taking magnitude. Although some of the characters may seem familiar, the stories are entirely fictional. My personal favorite â??A fool’s chance’ is also included in this volume.

Your Perfect Diet: How to Customize Your Diet for Weight Loss and Great Health

by Ronald M Bazar

How can one diet suit everyone when we are all so different? It can’t! That is the major downfall of the diet crazes and diet gurus. “Your Perfect Diet “shows you how those diets mislead and fail because they do not tend to your uniqueness. This book reveals how to customize your diet, for you!

For most people, the problem with other diets is that weight originally lost quickly comes back. But each time this happens, you feel worse and may gain even more weight than when you started. Nothing has changed your chronic weight or health condition.

If you are reading these words, no doubt you have tried all kinds of diet and health plans, yet success has eluded you. In fact, over 90% of weight-loss diets fail to produce results that last over the long term.

Your head could swim from all the conflicting health information and diet recommendations, the super slick “healthy” food ads and health marketing materials for the latest miracle supplement you must have, and from the doctors and diet gurus who have “the” answer for you.

Stop red meat and dairy? Eat soy instead? Is healthy margarine better than butter? Low fat diet best? Or is high protein better? Carbs or not? Eggs OK? Coffee? And many more conflicting answers from the “experts.”

How in the world are we to make sense of such eminent claims and “scientific” studies that very often contradict each other and leave you confused?

What is different about this book, and why should you pay any attention to what I have to say? Can there really be a perfect diet for you? And how in the world can this author make such a claim? Great questions, and I encourage you to be very sceptical at all times.

I know there is a perfect diet for you. If I can help you find thatâ??and it will be unique for youâ??wouldn’t that be a major breakthrough?

I will build my case step by step so you can understand how you arrived at where you are today. I will then review many of the major diet trends and analyze them so you can understand their strengths and weaknesses. And then I will point you in the right direction based on very sound principles.

I will teach you how to find what works for you, and it will be customized for your unique body. This is not a “body type” diet: they just don’t work for most people, and the same goes for any prescribed diet the experts claim you should eat!

Why?

Because everyone is so unique. People can’t be stuffed into boxes, told what to eat and expect success!

If you have tried and are reading this, you know it doesn’t work!

The only diet that works is the one that you customize for yourself! Ron will show you how to find your personal diet and, when you do, you will know deep inside that it is right for you.

Against Understanding, Volume 2: Cases and Commentary in a Lacanian Key

by Bruce Fink

Against Understanding, Volume 2, casts a spotlight on the status of case studies in psychoanalysis, which are commonly used to illustrate clinicians’ expertise and mastery rather than patients’ actual itineraries. When a case is presented, the complex, unwieldy, and often self-contradictory material of a therapeutic trajectory is often vastly oversimplified in view of producing a linear narrative that seems perfectly to fit the parameters of a practitioner’s preferred theoretical framework.

Bruce Fink attempts to eschew the appearance of “mastery” in assembling clinical material and in discussing his approach to practice and theory in the myriad case histories and vignettes included in both Volumes 1 & 2 of Against Understanding. To counterbalance the kind of paring down of material usually carried out to make cases conform to a particular paradigm, the case write-ups presented here include much of the “raw data” so often omitted: verbatim quotes from patients about their lives, backgrounds, dreams, and fantasies; and details about the many obscure, vacillating, and unruly phases of treatment. Fink hopes thereby to allow readers to form their own opinions about the well-foundedness or unsoundness of his formulations, interpretations, and interventions.

This second part of a two-volume collection of papers, interviews, and case studies provides the reader with hundreds of illustrations of Lacanian theory in practice, and will be essential for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and counselors.

The Power of The P

by Margo Thompson

When I started writing and promoting this book, originally entitled “Think Like a Gentleman, Be a Man”, I received a lot of feedback (mainly from men) based on the assumption that I was “just another woman telling men what to do.” I wasn’t surprised, to say the least. I expected it as a consequence of the book entitlement; it was meant to provoke interest. Furthermore, I noticed that the feedback I was getting regarding the title (and unknown content of the book), brought me a sense of peace, as it only reinforced the need for the book.

My intention in writing this book was never to emasculate men by â??telling them what to do’ but rather to empower them by provoking their inner greatness. Hence, the decision behind changing the title of the book to The Power of The P. My hope is that through reading this book, men will gain insight that will prompt them to tap into their hidden strengths, significance and purpose.

Women need men to become passionate about who they are as they maximize their potential on this earth. We need men to realize that they are more than what they have become and we need them to step up and BE THE MAN. For women, my hope is that this book will act as your voice and a catalyst to encourage you to surrender your fears and pride, if for nothing more, to bring peace and order to your innermost being – your soul.

God. Man. Woman. Such is divine order and the only way our relationships will be free from unnecessary chaos and disorder. Men, we need you. Take your place. Reclaim your kingdom under the umbrella of the Most High. Create order. Create stability.

The Power of The P.

Wake Up Millionaire

by Patric Chan

“What If You Woke Up One day… And You Are A Millionaire?”
The WakeUp Millionaire is a powerful ebook revealing the secrets to wealth from someone who has done it – and living it. It reveals the 3 core components to becoming a WakeUp Millionaire: Mindset, Psychology and Opportunity.

When you combined 3 of them holistically, you’ve unlocked the floodgate to wealth and success. The Psychology is the intangible power to “attract” unlimited opportunities into your life and subsequently mastering the Mindset will set you on the path to wealth scientifically. The right vehicle to create money from thin air comes from the Opportunity.

You see, over the time, I’ve acquired a skill. And interesting, this skill can be possessed by anyone who wishes to master it. Better still, it’s freely available — even to the most ordinary person you can think of.

The skill that I’m referring is none other than the skill of making money in life, the skill that allows me to make money at will. Thus, I can never be worried about money… or be poor again. Never like the life that I use to have.

As unbelievable as it sounds, if somehow all of my money vanishes today, I’ll still be on track to wealth again — in no time.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying this to sound impressive at all. Maybe some people might not even be impressed about making a million in a year. But I’m sharing it because that’s the lifestyle you would have once you’ve acquire the skill of making money whenever you want.

I know, your mind may perceive it’s not possible because it hasn’t “seen” such possibility yet. Such reality. But once you’ve read my secrets, you will see what I mean.

But before I become a WakeUp Millionaire, I’m an ordinary guy with average intelligence. I was just having “enough” money to spend at the end of each month.

If you are serious about your future and breaking free from working for others, then I would encourage you to read this book.

For those who knew me, they would have known that…

* My highest education is only at high school level. After that, I started working on the streets. I don’t have any academic paper qualification because I’ve never study in a college or University before. Actually, I couldn’t afford to study.

* I don’t come from a rich or well-off family. There weren’t any financial support for me to pursue whatever goal that I want to do. We’re your typical middle class family - my Dad’s a cab driver and my Mum’s a housewife.

* I don’t have any special or unique talent. I mean, there are people who are highly talented in sports, invention, programming, arts, music, etc that allows them to become millionaires.

* I live in a small island. Not one of the big cities where there are plenty of opportunities. Although environment does influence one’s success, I can confidently say that it’s not entirely true. With today’s technology, you can be rich in anywhere you live.
* I don’t any “connections”. Some people became wealthy because they know the “right” people who can elevate them to the next level. I don’t even have entrepreneur friends or know of any millionaires personally.
And yet, I was able to become a best-selling author, interviewed Mark Victor Hansen, John Assaraf, Bill Bartmann and others, co-author a book with New York Times best-selling author, Robert G. Allen, spoke in 11 countries as a speaker, taught thousands of people about success and achieve my personal freedom.

My “story” and strategies are all inside WakeUp Millionaire. Enjoy reading it today.

Great Food: (Simon Sayes Get Off The Couch: The Seven Day Secret)

by Simon Sayes

Welcome back! I hope you’ve found this journey as fascinating and inspiring so far as I have found writing it! We’ve covered body and mind pretty well so far – now let’s address the other part of the pie, so to speak, with great food.

As the title suggests, we don’t just want good food, we want great food! We want a great lifestyle and a great life! This means not only should it be healthy for our bodies and minds but full of flavor and beauty as well. If you cook or are open to cooking your life will be that much fuller, and your options vastly greater.

So get off the couch and cook!

We’re just about to discuss what not to eat, what to eat, the basics of nutrition and cooking, and some amazing recipes all from a general entry into an improved and more active lifestyle that includes great cuisine. We will not be addressing specialty diets, per se, such as a low-calorie diet for diabetics, in this volume. We are approaching food with general health in mind.

An important thing to include in your seven days is dropping off one soda and one sweet each day. After that, you need not turn off these bad sweets completely, but it’s suggested you limit yourself to just one every three days. And of course, pig out on cheat day!

We’ll discuss cheat day in more detail in the last volume. Until then, let’s gently redirect our diet in favor of better shores.

Even if little by little, try new foods. Move away from a high sugar, salt, fat, and acidic lifestyle in favor or natural flavor, health, and energy. This volume will get you off to a great start with great food!

Enjoy!

Peace of Mind: (Simon Sayes Get Off The Couch: The Seven Day Secret)

by Simone Sayes

Welcome back!
Balance

Balancing mind, body, diet and soul is a presumption we hold in this series as necessary for the fastest, easiest results and the most fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle. Attention to these components is divided among the volumes of the series, and it is worth noting that how they balance will differ for each of us.

In our three or four-legged table analogy, you may prefer a longer leg of physical exercise with less concentration on mental relaxation, or vice-versa. The point is it is okay to design your own seven-day trial. Remember you have a great advantage over someone who embarks on a ninety-day program only to fail because it was not as flexible as yours will be.

They might be left with the notion that they tried and just weren’t cut out for diet and exercise, whereas this may not be true at all. The problem might not have been their ability to accomplish things, but rather due to an inappropriate or uninteresting program which was doomed to fail from the start!

Your program will one you yourself design. You can try yoga two or three times in your seven days; follow a certain food plan; ride a bike every day; meditate three times a week; or make it much heavier on physical exercise for some trimming and enhancing of your body – whatever you’re interested in.

But rather than start you on just one leg when three or four would make it stable and sustainable, you will have a much better chance of seven-day success from the start, and possess a much more fulfilling lifestyle if you also include the other areas of human satisfaction along as well.

A lack or weakness in any one of the areas of mind, body, nutrition or spirit (if spirit is not lumped in with your “mind” category) can limit your results with the other areas. To what degree you need or want each aspect will again, ultimately be up to you.

A simple example of the interrelationship could be how prolonged emotional stress over money could lead to high blood pressure. In the same manner a bodily injury could lead to depression or anxiety. Repairing one will inevitably help the other.

Having regular exercise that’s fun; proper nutrition that leaves you energized and enjoyable; practices that bring physical balance and peace of mind all in tandem is the easiest way to maintain physical health and a sharp mind, to sleep better, and to better our chances of a long, happy, and active life.

Honour

by M. B. feeney

An anthology of short stories by M. B. Feeney

The world is filled with people destined to help and to serve. Doctors, nurses, police, and firefightersâ??each and every day, these special people work to help others in times of need. Often, this means putting their own lives at risk in order to do their jobs. They give of themselves to benefit society, and they do it without any expectation of thanks.

And then there is the militaryâ?¦

These are the men and women who don’t head home to their families and safe homes to relax at the end of a shift. They are on the front lines, far from home and often fighting someone else’s battles because it is the right thing to do. Military families struggle to cope with the constant worry and the long periods of separation, staying strong to support those who serve in everything they do, and often are left to pick up the pieces when the highest price is paid.

Servicemen and women are heroes in the purest sense of the word. Even when the world’s gone mad and their hearts are breaking, one thing remains unchanged.

The Sinking of PT-109

by Alex Malcolm

Why would Lt. John F Kennedy stop his Torpedo Boat (PT-109) in the midst of the hazardous Japanese shipping lanes known as the Tokyo Express, where it would be sunk by a collision with a Japanese destroyer? And why, despite the fact that General MacArthur wanted him court-martialed, was he instead later awarded a Medal for this action?

Hardrock: Crazy Jake’s Fish Bomb

by L. Bracken

When a family looking to escape the corporate pressures and gas shortages of a crowded 1979 Houston makes a break for Hardrock, Colorado â?? a tiny town supporting a winter population of less than a dozen â?? what could they possibly hope to find?
Adventure! And outfitting the neglected Quartz Creek Inn with an operational café, saloon, trading post and motel in preparation for a hectic summer tourist season is where the story of Hardrock begins. Hardrock’s pronounced lack of amenities, unforgiving conditions and well-defined, likeable characters set the stage for hilarious situations in a primitive place where people make up the happily out-populated minority. Languishing behind America’s modern culture, Hardrock’s pace is decidedly slow – some might even say stunted. But, at the end of this county road, life is yours for the shaping. Ex-lawmen and outlaws, hippies, cowboys and mountain men and women all add spice to an eclectic recipe for retro-lunacy. Join the handful of Hardrock locals in the remote wilderness of the Colorado Rockies, where 14,000-foot peaks and the rustic setting of the Quartz Creek Inn conspire to provoke memorable misadventures and might just inspire you to stay. HARDROCK: Crazy Jake’s Fish Bomb is a fun, fast-paced and engaging read leaving you wishing your virtual vacation to Hardrock could last a little longer. Sure to bring a smile, Hardrock: Crazy Jake’s Fish Bomb is reminiscent of Patrick McManus, Erma Bombeck and Jean Shepherd in reflecting a uniquely humorous sense of time, place and point of view.
L. Bracken’s original voice creates an authentically rich and imaginative landscape sure to make this book a treasured gift for the outdoor enthusiast in your life or anyone appreciative of simpler times and a closer sense of community.

Even being young as he is, he knew by these actions that the highland way of life has gone forever. Striving to reach his settlement to warn them of the marauding Red-Coats that will be visiting them on their mission of butchery he is not to know that all his efforts will be in vain. Reaching his place of abode and discovering that it has been put to the sword his brain cannot cope with this as he screams in a demented fashion. Knowing there is nothing left for him in this life he lays down to die, but hope comes in the form of Morag a strange old woman who has escaped death in the safety of her hidden cave. Nursed back to health by the constant attention of the old woman through her medical knowledge of healing plants, Jamie after committing the remains of his clan folk into the peat bogs vows vengeance on his enemies. The Legend of Montpelier Hill

by James Dargan

Do you believe in Evil?

Most Dubliners have heard the stories about the Lodge at the Hellfire Club on top of Montpelier Hill, in Rathfarnham, County Dublin, and the evil goings on of the place, but are they aware of what really happened?

It is a stormy autumn night in the year 1739, and the Earl of Rosse and some of his associates – all Freemasons and members of the irreverent and infamous Hellfire Club – have invited two guests to play cards with them. Drink and gambling follow, until one of the guests sees something he wishes he never did.

What will happen to him and his companion? Will they survive the night and make it to the morning and home, or will they go the same way as countless people before them, disappearing without a trace forever?

‘The Legend of Montpelier Hill’ is a gothic-horror short novella of 15,000 words.

Loqui

by Nicolas Guy Williams

The Preludes was an attempt to follow an evolutionary direction in the thought; image and music of the style of my poetry and writing and to move into ever

deeper philosophical images and concepts , I treat the entire group of collections that I call The Preludes as an ocean of words, whereas I have often treated the entire group of collections that came before it (collectively known as The Excanto) as a city of words. So I would describe (as the writer) all of The Preludes collections as an ocean of words dotted with the occasional island or rocky outcrop, where it is quite possible that the next group of collections to come after this one will rise out of this sea like a new continent to explore, hence the collective name for the group The preludes “Both Musical & the thing that comes first before the next but gently hints at what is to come”

Sailing towards the new continent on the ocean of words …. and deep into the coastal seas and the offshore islands first exploration into the new continent of words.

Fear? Not! (The Place of Passage)

by Mark E. Hundley

Imagine waking in the middle of the night in pitch black darkness and knowing you are in a place different than the one in which you went to sleep! Then imagine that as you are working to make sense of where you are, you become aware that you are NOT alone– that someone or someTHING is in that dark space with you! Finally, imagine that you are unable to move . . . Would you be the slightest bit fearful?

This is the plight in which Jeannie finds herself in a short story titled, Fear? NOT!–the first in a series of short stories set in a realm that constantly changes yet remains the same. In this first story you will meet Jeannie, a contemporary woman with an indomitable spirit who is plagued by fear. In the course of a normal day, she makes a “request” that thrusts her into a place she will visit many times in her life–a place you too may have visited or are about to.

Hell’s Angel: An Angel Heart Mystery and Suspense Thriller

by Rob Palmer

“Having not read any of this authors previous books, I started reading without expectation and found I couldn’t put it down. A terrifying and sexually charged pursuit of obsession, desire and delusion. Packed full of spine tingling suspense that kept me gripped till the very last word… Now I want more!”

“I picked this book up, having previously never heard of the author. Anyway, as soon as I started the book I was hooked. The main character, Angel, is seriously disturbed! The author does a fantastic job of creating Angel. The reader almost feels sorry for her at the end…almost! She is a woman on a mission, and nothing will stand in her way….including the family cat! (As a cat lover, I was quite disturbed by this scene!) I loved this book and am hoping that the author has much more coming out soon.”

“Just finished reading The Lover from Hell…loved the book and really hope that there is a sequel in the pipeline.”

“I have just finished reading The Lover From Hell and thought it was amazing. Thanks for putting such a fabulous book out there!”

Move over Stephen King and Dean Koontz…this spine-chilling suspense thriller will keep you gripped from the first page to the last:
When love turns to obsession, murder and mayhem is not far behind…

For widower Jack Soul, a chance meeting with a beautiful and exotic redhead dancer seems like a chance for a new start…a new life, a new love. But he soon discovers that there is much more to Angel Heart than stunning looks and an insatiable sexual appetite. When she decides that he is The One – the man she is destined to love for ever – his fate becomes inextricably and devastatingly entwined with hers.

Jack learns she not only has a secret life that will shock him to the core, but that her actions are driven by a dark past that shapes a twisted future. Soon he finds himself on a dangerous path where death and desire intersect, and where his very life depends on his ability to deal with terrors beyond his worst nightmares…

Watch out…she might be behind you – and you wouldn’t want that. Her name may be Angel, but she is more like a she-devil. Sure, she might take you to the moon and back, but heck you might live to regret it later…or you might not live it all.

Jack Soul had no idea what he was letting himself in for when he found himself being pursued by a hot readhead with a mission. She was looking for The One – the love of her life – and when she decides Jack is her man, nothing will stop her from getting what she wants.

From the surreal world of ballet to the seediest of strip joints, and from sizzling sex to naked violence, this book takes on a rollercoaster journey of emotions and contrasts. After reading this, be prepared to sleep with the lights on.

by Arvin Stevens

The Paranormal Activities Control Squad discovers the vilest of evils blossoming in a place where the good have lost hope . . .

February, 1986 – Jack Rayon only wants to visit his incarcerated brother, but someone has other ideas – namely, the world’s deadliest assassin.

As the battle rages to an old abandoned church that turns out to be all too occupied, all of them are about to encounter something that they hate and fear even more than they hate and fear each other – a terrifying evil as old as mankind, nursing an insatiable lust for vengeance. . .

Animals

by Steve Roach

ANIMALS

Brings together a number of well-received short stories by Steve Roach in a single volume. Includes:

The Whaler

In 1852 the whaling ship Nautilus leaves New Bedford and embarks upon a route to the South Pacific, a journey that will lead the crew to the domain of the magnificent sperm whales. But one of the whales they hunt is different. Sick, already dying, the men attack it and find something inside, something rotten and dangerous and alive. It’s a thing that will bring about the destruction of the Nautilus, and bring doom to Grice and his men. It appears that Grice is not the most formidable hunter these waters have ever seen – something else is out there, killing whales, and it has been this way for centuries…….

A Dog’s Life

When the Masters go out one day and never come back, old dogs Horace and Bilbo are left to fend for themselves. Locked in a kitchen with no food and a diminishing water supply, days go by until help finally comes. It’s too late for Bilbo. Horace recovers from his ordeal and is taken in by a new family, keen to introduce their young son Andy to the concept of looking after a pet. Andy is really excited at the thought of getting a dog, but his excitement turns to crushing disappointment when he sees how old it is. It’s not long before Andy makes Horace’s life a misery. Confused, unable to settle, Horace spends his nights dreaming of his loving, absent Masters and his days hiding in terror from the boy. But Horace will only be pushed so farâ?¦.

The Farda

Dorey, a lonely fat man, discovers an unwanted visitor in his stack of bananas – a spider the size of a man’s fist. Instead of killing it, or throwing it out, he takes pity on the beast and lets it stay for a while. It is the beginning of a magnificent friendship, one which sees Dorey heed the advice of his new lodger and take more pride in his appearance. A whole new world opens up, and one day the unthinkable happens – Dorey brings a woman home for the night. It results in disaster, setting off a chain of events that will change all of their lives forever.

Fox

A farmer, exhausted from long days trying to keep the business afloat, is kept awake one night by the howling of a fox. Tired beyond measure, he grabs his shotgun and kills the beast. The following morning, he finds two dead foxes – the one he shot was a mother, calling for help because her cub had been caught up in the hedgerow. The farmer is an unsentimental sort of fellow, and he picks them up by the tails and tosses the corpses into the woods. That night, a third fox sits howling outside the bedroom, staring up at the window in defiance. â??The Fox’ is an unflinching look at the pressures of modern farming, and a grim portrait of animals as vermin.

Ruiner

An old man searches the world for a place he can call his own, carrying a sack filled with seeds, pods and bulbs. All he wants is to find a place he can make a lovely garden, a place where he can spend his final years in peace. He finds what he is looking for in the middle of the desert. It is a bleak and lonely spot where the animals come to die. He helps reduce their pain by slitting their throats and bleeding them into the ground. In time, tiny red flowers grow. Taking this as a sign, the old man divines a water source and digs irrigation channels through the desert. He builds a hut from animal bones. He plants everything that he once carried in his sack. An Eden blooms. The animals now come to this place to live. One day, a monstrous bird falls from the sky and takes up residence in the crater-lake. It becomes the bane of the old man’s retirement, a vulgar and graceless murderer that preys on the other animals without mercy. The old man realises that Eden’s are always flawed and forces himself to accept the presence of this evil creature. But sometimes, worse things can be just around the corner.

Our storytelling style brings to life the palaces and castles, mosques and markets, battlefields and monuments as history unfolds before you. With a wealth of richly colored photos, illustrations and maps we’ll tell you about emperors and sultans, concubines and eunuchs, slaves and executioners. We’ll tell you how generals and soldiers, crusaders and gladiators fought to make their mark on history. You will learn about local traditions and customs, holidays and festivals, cuisine, even jokes.

A typical guide will tell you a list of historical facts, but WanderStories will weave a fascinating story that will carry you into the general’s tent, the queen’s bedchamber, and the sculptor’s studio and get the real feeling of history being created.

WanderStories gives you the freedom to enjoy your visit at your own pace, to pause for a break or to study in your hotel room. You don’t even have to travel, as you can call it up in the comfort of your armchair at home. And you won’t miss much, the experience is the same; you’ll live the tour in the same way. Your once-in-a-lifetime journey will be more than a memory, it can be experienced again and again.

We, at WanderStories, are storytellers. Our travel guides don’t intend to replace a typical travel reference guide, so, by all means, bring your Lonely Planet, Frommer’s or DK, and get to know about the mundane. Our mission is to be the best local guide that you would wish to have by your side when visiting the sights.

Retirement Blues – Goodbye! Along Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Path

by Richard H Cowley

The book is an account of the day to day exploits of an expatriate Manxman and an Australian chum who seek to shake off the retirement blues by walking Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast path.

It took18 days to walk the 191 miles from the priory village of St Bees on the Irish Sea to arrive at the former smuggler’s stronghold of Robin Hood’s Bay on the Yorkshire coast. The trail passes through some of England’s most rugged and sublime countryside. This trek was all it took for Richard to become hooked on the roving gypsy life so loved by the super-tramp poet, William Henry Davies and the busking writer, Laurie Lee. On the road, each step away from the day before so revitalized Richard’s sense of freedom that he was able to live in the moment and bask in the simple delight of being. This wonderful experience rekindled his enthusiasm for adventure, sparking a determination to commit to life with renewed vigour and vitality. This was no time for retirement!

It’s estimated that ten thousand people attempt this walk each year. Along the way Richard met backpackers who had trekked many famous trails throughout the world. They generally agreed that the Coast to Coast path is the most beautiful and enjoyable walk they’d done.

There are many books about walking pilgrimage trails or fighting nature in wild and wonderful places. This book is nothing like that; it’s about a long distance walk on a readily assessable trail which does not require superhuman effort to complete the distance.

The book will appeal to walkers in general and to those contemplating a hiking holiday. The mass of armchair ramblers may also enjoy reading about the fascinating strangers and bizarre situations Richard encountered along the way. Its is possible that there are legions of older people who, on reading about this life changing adventures, may be tempted to try hiking themselves.

From the Ladies’ Tee

by Hilary Blake

Alison, Vicky, Catherine and Evelyn set out to play in competitive golf on four stunning courses in the luxurious suburbs of London. But the competition isn’t all sporting. Cheating on the golf course and in the bedroom abound.
Tempers fly as games are won and lost, and then things become deadly serious as golf and life become inextricably entwined.

This gripping novella will entertain and enthrall anyone interested in the hitherto hidden and exclusive world of women’s golf.

Player’s PLAYBOOK: GOLD DIGGER OR 1st ROUND CHICK (YOU MAKE THE CALL)

by K. Marquis

Whether we want to believe it or not fellas, the war of the sexes is on and with books such as “Gold-digger Guide” and “Act like a Lady, Think like a Man” the evidence is clear that none of what’s taking shape (in regards to relationships) is a game. And when you consider every guy (including yourself) who deals with everyday challenges (and even successes) with the female persuasion it’s still clear that we all need and deserve a playbook for ourselves (that based on lady selections), especially when you consider words like division of assets, alimony and child support, just to name a few. Because like they say, defense wins championships, and to find the right woman you’ve gotta first avoid and defend against the wrong ones.

And whether you’re a young athlete, entrepreneur, trust fund baby, Wall Street executive or just heavy in the technology game, this book should be treated like the American Express Card – always on you.

So for those guys who are not that sophisticated when it comes to differentiating the good woman from the gold-digger then consider the Player’s Playbook an investment – for the game of life.

There will never be a book more practical, relatable and entertaining for guys because the same NBA (and street-ball) terms that’s used for the game is applied to identify, classify, and code most scenarios and things related to our dealings with feminine kryptonite from day to day.

Maybe you were one of the 3 million proud owners of the original book Mr. Crabtree Goes Fishing, by legendary angler Bernard Venables? It’s very likely that you refer to â??Crabtree swims’, that you know what a â??gentle’ is and that the idea of fishing in a tweed three-piece-suit doesn’t really seem that odd to you.

Congratulations you’re a Crabtree kid!

Fishing in the Footsteps of Mr. Crabtree is what we’re all about – and our book and TV series of the same name are the first steps we’ve taken to illustrate this. We hope you’ll join us on our quest to bring Mr. Crabtree to a new generation of anglers, to share our love of fishing for all species, and to help us spread the word. We are part of a wonderfully diverse community, united by a shared passion. Let’s celebrate that together!

Eight people escape decimated New York. They have only one thing in common: the alcoholic gene. The same genetic quirk that makes alcoholics and addicts susceptible to booze and drugs gives them a mysterious ability to evade detection by the undead.

They’re a motley crew: A Botoxed Upper Eastsider; a drug dealer rescued from lockup; a resentful daughter of addicts; an insecure AA guy; a Japanese ex-dope fiend; an addicted Ivy Leaguer; and a Mexican immigrant. Dodging natural and unnatural disasters, drugged lunatics, and the living dead, they struggle to face their personal demons, accept one another, and find a new life. They think they’ve reached the end of their journey when they encounter a settlement that takes A.A. to fundamentalist extremes. But they have to make a choiceâ?¦one they may not survive.

by Decimus Black

It’s Time To Leave Earth…

Hunter Alleen, a thirty-three year old, is leaving everything behind for a space adventure. His friends, his home, and Earth.

All Hunter cares about is leaving everything behind including a tragic past he doesn’t want to talk about. Space exploration has always been his passion. He is ready to sacrifice everything to complete it. His mission is simple: make it to Mars and scoop a hand full of red soil.

Morality: Book Two-The Peacemaker (Morality Trilogy)

by Casey Dorman

The Peacemaker is the second novel in Casey Dorman’s Morality Trilogy. A thousand years ago the environment on the planet Talus was dying. Air pollution had caused the dominant race of Tontors and their Falstinian slaves to live within air-purified enclosures while the lowly Aphorian race, which provided manual labor for the Tontors, lived outside. Plant and animal life was dying and global warming had caused the oceans to rise, inundating coastal habitats. The Tontors and Falstinians and a few of their Aphorian servants left Talus to migrate to Talus’ twin planet Noruna. Now, a thousand years later, the Aphorians have learned to nurture the natural environment of Talus and have brought it back from the brink of disaster. And now, the Falstinians, freed from their slavery to the Tontors, have returned to set up settlements on their old lands. The result is a war between the Falstinians and Aphorians that threatens to spread to a war between the two planets. Enter Jason, an empathic peacemaker from a distant planet, whose task is to bring understanding between the three races of Talus and Noruna and avoid interplanetary war. The Peacemaker is a tale of the future, of distant planets and of love, war, and the dangers of ecological disregard. Within its pages is a blueprint for avoiding disaster on Earth.

When the World Ended

by Martyn Ellington

On September 22nd 2014 NASA launched the first manned mission to Mars using a new and as yet untried fuel source. As the ship left Earth’s atmosphere it created an unexpected effect, it weakened the magnetic field that surrounds and protects our planet. As the effect seemed minimal no one at NASA appeared to be concerned and it seemed rightly so, the Earths magnetic shield fluctuates all of the time and if it were not for the unforeseen events that followed only three months later their dismissal of the facts would have been appropriate.

On December 21st 2014 two years past the end of the Mayan calendar a Coronal Mass Ejection erupted from the sun and headed towards earth. On impact with the already weakened magnetosphere the shield became damaged beyond its ability to repair, and with tensions between North Korea and the United States rising the consequence for mankind and the planet would now become clear.

As the Earth’s atmosphere begins to ebb away and our home planet starts to suffocate in the vacuum of space the countdown to the extinction of all life on Earth has begun.

For one reporter who stumbles across the facts she now has to make an agonising personal choice. Can she leave her devoted husband and children to die in the worst way or will she turn in her lover, a man she cannot live without to save her family.

Caterpillar Without A Callsign

by Isaac Hooke

My name’s Mason. I don’t have a callsign, not yet. I’m just a caterpillar. A baby moth.

I joined up because, well, I’ve always wanted to pilot an ATLAS mech. What can I say? We’re talking three meters of pure, mobile destructive power here. A thousand hydraulically actuated joints. Head-mounted sensor package with built in LIDAR, night vision, flash vision, zoom. Crash protection. Jump jets. Active protection countermeasures. Swappable weaponry. Deployable ballistic shield.

Sound like the war machine of your dreams?

It is.

I finally got my chance to pilot one of these babies on a little deployment out in Mongolia.

Under a rather unusual set of circumstances…

CATERPILLAR WITHOUT A CALLSIGN is a 7,800 word military science-fiction story set in the ATLAS universe.

ATLAS, the full-length military science-fiction novel from Isaac Hooke, comes out Christmas 2013. To be notified when the novel releases, sign-up for the mailing list here: http://bit.ly/atlaslist
