When I started writing and promoting this book, originally entitled “Think Like a Gentleman, Be a Man”, I received a lot of feedback (mainly from men) based on the assumption that I was “just another woman telling men what to do.” I wasn’t surprised, to say the least. Welcome back! I hope you’ve found this journey as fascinating and inspiring so far as I have found writing it! We’ve covered body and mind pretty well so far – now let’s address the other part of the pie, so to speak, with great food.
As the title suggests, we don’t just want good food, we want great food! We want a great lifestyle and a great life! This means not only should it be healthy for our bodies and minds but full of flavor and beauty as well. If you cook or are open to cooking your life will be that much fuller, and your options vastly greater.
So get off the couch and cook!
We’re just about to discuss what not to eat, what to eat, the basics of nutrition and cooking, and some amazing recipes all from a general entry into an improved and more active lifestyle that includes great cuisine. We will not be addressing specialty diets, per se, such as a low-calorie diet for diabetics, in this volume. We are approaching food with general health in mind.
An important thing to include in your seven days is dropping off one soda and one sweet each day. After that, you need not turn off these bad sweets completely, but it’s suggested you limit yourself to just one every three days. And of course, pig out on cheat day!
We’ll discuss cheat day in more detail in the last volume. Until then, let’s gently redirect our diet in favor of better shores.
Even if little by little, try new foods. Move away from a high sugar, salt, fat, and acidic lifestyle in favor or natural flavor, health, and energy. This volume will get you off to a great start with great food!

Balancing mind, body, diet and soul is a presumption we hold in this series as necessary for the fastest, easiest results and the most fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle. Attention to these components is divided among the volumes of the series, and it is worth noting that how they balance will differ for each of us.
In our three or four-legged table analogy, you may prefer a longer leg of physical exercise with less concentration on mental relaxation, or vice-versa. The point is it is okay to design your own seven-day trial. Remember you have a great advantage over someone who embarks on a ninety-day program only to fail because it was not as flexible as yours will be.
They might be left with the notion that they tried and just weren’t cut out for diet and exercise, whereas this may not be true at all. The problem might not have been their ability to accomplish things, but rather due to an inappropriate or uninteresting program which was doomed to fail from the start!
Your program will one you yourself design. You can try yoga two or three times in your seven days; follow a certain food plan; ride a bike every day; meditate three times a week; or make it much heavier on physical exercise for some trimming and enhancing of your body – whatever you’re interested in.
But rather than start you on just one leg when three or four would make it stable and sustainable, you will have a much better chance of seven-day success from the start, and possess a much more fulfilling lifestyle if you also include the other areas of human satisfaction along as well.
A lack or weakness in any one of the areas of mind, body, nutrition or spirit (if spirit is not lumped in with your “mind” category) can limit your results with the other areas. To what degree you need or want each aspect will again, ultimately be up to you.
A simple example of the interrelationship could be how prolonged emotional stress over money could lead to high blood pressure. In the same manner a bodily injury could lead to depression or anxiety. Repairing one will inevitably help the other.
Having regular exercise that’s fun; proper nutrition that leaves you energized and enjoyable; practices that bring physical balance and peace of mind all in tandem is the easiest way to maintain physical health and a sharp mind, to sleep better, and to better our chances of a long, happy, and active life.
