  • This is a book about rising above; about becoming more than you can possibly believe you ever will be at those terribly low points of your life. It is about surviving, thriving and living and I recommend it more than any other book I have read.‘

~ Tracy Riva, Midwest Book Review, Amazon Hall of Fame reviewer

  • The book is written as a series of fragmentary essays. Thompson is a wonderful stylist, and the whole book is written in a very lyrical and poignant prose. This is not a book for leisure reading, but a powerful testament to the resilience and the indomitable nature of human spirit.

~Dr. Bojan Tunguz, Amazon Top 10 Hall of Fame reviewer

  • ‘So ridiculously amazing, I can’t take it’

~ Gabe Berman, Author ‘Live LIke A Fruit Fly

  • ‘Engrossed. It is a grippingly brilliant work’

~ Frank Feather, author and blogger

  • ‘Any woman who has had a former lover (or two or three) will be able to relate to this. Her writing is very poetic’

~ LS Hullinger, reader, writer

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas – A Parody

by Serena Silenced

A Parody of the classic – ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.
Not intended for children. Has some inappropriate language.
I have edited this to include another parody in addition to my own.
There are now 2 poems. Neither of which are suitable for children.
These are “dirty”
Hope you get a laugh!

Hoping you have a merry Christmas.
– Serena

Inside Voices at the Girl Aquarium

by Gina Inzunza

This fictional book is about six teenage girls who let their “inside voices” out and escape their troubled lives using a simple, but powerful weapon: their poetry. At a NYC writing workshop, their talk isn’t about pedicures and designer bags. Instead, they meet each month in this “safe” place to express their real fears, pressures and joys. Here, Tamara from Harlem dreams of going to an Ivy League college. Adela from Queens proclaims her science project to “fix” the world and Lorna describes the rush of playing lead guitar in a rock band. Through writing and sharing their work, the girls deal with issues like peer pressure, family troubles and bullying. Join them as they share their poems for the first time in public and attempt to break out of the Girl Aquarium.

In praise of sparklets

by Jolly Jacob

Imagine being lightning struck by wonder. All your hard-built barriers dissolving, your assiduously created defenses melting and you, like a 5 year old, awestruck by the wonder of it all, dumbstruck into silence, and rescued by poetry.

Imagine a spark ignited deep within you, and a flame leaping up, and another and then another, leaping higher, the fire growing, growing, growing until it is a conflagration that fills up your whole inner space and brims over and spills into the world and wherever you look and whatever you do it is only with love.

Imagine you, yes you, are not a human, merely a body-mind just making a living, but are a being of light that has mistaken itself to be a body-mind. Imagine there is only light and nothing but light and darkness is only the temporary absence of it or our temporary inability to see the light. Imagine poetry leading you to the light.

Imagine life is not the stage we think it is and we mere players, an invisible hand choreographing our moves. Imagine we are that hand, and we are all the players and all the moves, that everybody’s experiences are our own. Imagine we are one. Imagine poetry being born out of the ensuing overwhelming compassion.

Imagine the women of Afghanistan, without access to education, books, media, writing 3-lined poems called Landai into which they pour their stories of pain, longing and hope and exchanging them surreptitiously over chores, mobile phones and clandestine meetings. Imagine their Landai travelling across the world with messages of hope and setting them free one day.

Imagine worlds of meaning packed into 17 syllables. Taut and tiny, potent, like a bullet, when it finds its mark.

Imagine an animal energy ripping up your insides. Putting out lights of hope and filling you with a raging, confused darkness. Get introduced to angst.

Imagine 69 poems that serenade your sensibilities, bring to life the simplicity of wonder, the complexity of life, the purity of light, the expansiveness of love, the hope of Landai, the potency of haiku and the desperation of angst.

In The Mountains Of The Mind

by Nicolas Guy Williams

The Preludes was an attempt to follow an evolutionary direction in the thought; image and music of the style of my poetry and writing and to move into ever deeper philosophical images and concepts , I treat the entire group of collections that I call The Preludes as an ocean of words, whereas I have often treated the entire group of collections that came before it (collectively known as The Excanto) as a city of words. So I would describe (as the writer) all of The Preludes collections as an ocean of words dotted with the occasional island or rocky outcrop, where it is quite possible that the next group of collections to come after this one will rise out of this sea like a new continent to explore, hence the collective name for the group The preludes “Both Musical & the thing that comes first before the next but gently hints at what is to come”

A journey through several islands in the ocean of words.

Starving For Popcorn

by Nicolas Guy Williams

The Excanto is collection of poetry expanded from the idea of evolving a new
mythology for the 21st Century, containing themes of love, death,
society seen from below, and exploration of prophetic vision,
shamanic spirituality in the modern urban jungle.

However, every mythology has to at some time delve into
nursery rhyme or humerous verse, Starving For Popcorn
begins in nursery verse and ends in satire which is kind of close
to nursery rhyme and humerous verse but perhaps not as close
as the Poet intended 😉
