Ghosts of the North Shore

by James Kipling

It started forty years ago with the brutal murder of a teenage girl. Now a whole flock of sheep has been mysteriously torn to pieces and strange ghostly happenings are on the increase in the sleepy seaside town of Hal’s Cove.

Seventeen-year-old Jeannie Rowlands soon finds herself right in the middle of a story that spans not only decades but other dimensions, and will end in a violent struggle for our very future on the shores of Hal’s Cove’s loneliest, most windswept beach.

Following a strange encounter when out celebrating her birthday, Jeannie’s once perfect boyfriend becomes distant and violent. And, to make things worse, she starts seeing and hearing ghostly apparitions on nearby North Shore Beach. As one part of her life falls apart, however, Jeannie finds herself offered an extremely well-paid job at a beach café and with a boss she hardly sees. She soon forms a kind of friendship with her most regular customer, an intriguing dark-haired boy she knows as Phay’n, who doesn’t speak a word of English and flees every time her boss returns.

With more ghostly happenings and violent incidents occurring every day, Jeannie soon starts to realise that all of these various elements are connected and that their story is one of epic love and tragedy that will involve the fate of entire races of people… including our own.

This review is from: The Amazing Octopus! Early Reader Books for Under 8’s. Amazing facts and photos of some of the world’s most intelligent animals. (Amazing Animals Early Reader Books) (Kindle Edition)

This is a good book to introduce nature to your child. There are interesting facts about the octopus and the pictures capture the child’s mind. The words are easy for an eight year old to read without adult assistance yet this book can entertain both and share a special time together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun way to get your child to learn about animals! By K. Smith “Taaa!” (St. Louis, MO)

This review is from: Sharks! Shark Facts, Pictures and Links to Over 50 VIDEOS. Early Reader Shark Books for Kids (Amazing Animals Early Reader Book) (Kindle Edition)

I can’t say enough about these books. All of the books by this author are amazing. They all give a general background of the animal and interesting facts about them. The best part is that they have usually 3 videos that you can click on and watch right there! These are great education tools and I think they are great for children (I read and watch them too!). If you’re looking for a fun way for your child to learn about animals, these books are the way to go. You can sign up to receive emails from the author about promotional days that the books are free on amazon. But I think these books are definitely worth the price.

There is even a “True or False” section at the end of the book to bolster learning and boost the fun

Why not try some yourself? True or False?

The Blueberry Bush (The Adventures of Princess Victoria & Prince William)

by Stephen Butler

Sometimes too much of a good thing isn’t so good, as Princess Victoria and Prince William figure out after their discovery and indulging of The Blueberry Bush in the forest. Thank goodness there’s Queen Mommy to turn to for help with this colorful situation.

The first installment in the series The Adventures of Princess Victoria & Prince William, Stephen Butler shares stories created through the exhausting process of putting his own Princess Victoria to bed while she was just a toddler. While the words paint a picture of a fanciful world, The Blueberry Bush really comes to life through the amazing watercolor illustrations of Valerie De Grijs to create a timeless classic for any set of books a child would grow up with.

My Amazing Human Body. A childrens guide. Human body systems; How the body works; Anatomy for kids; Facts about the human body.

by Duncan Spowart

This is a really wonderful introduction to how the human body works. This book has been written to appeal to 8 to 12 year old children. It introduces human body systems in a clear, readable and interesting way. The aim is to inspire an interest that will grow and develop as the child grows up, and may stimulate further studies in the fields of biology, healthcare, and medicine.

There are approximately 6700 words of text, and 50 superb, carefully selected, full-colour illustrations. Many are anatomically accurate, some are annotated and educational, and some are just for fun.

It covers the major topics of interest to children including:

How the body works

Human body systems

Human anatomy

The skeleton, bones and joints

The heart and circulation

Human brain and nervous system

The digestive system

Kidneys and Urinary system

The reproductive system

Written by a health professional, it covers all the usual topics, and includes many interesting facts, and answers many questions such as:

“What are all the hard parts I can feel under my skin?”

“What makes me jump?”

“Where does the food go that I eat?”

“Why do I get pins and needles?”

“Why do I cry?”

“Why do my ears pop?”

“Why do I need oxygen?”

“Why do people yawn?”

There are several human body books available for kids, some of them are written for very young children in a very basic format, and others at a more advanced level for older children in their teens. The trick is to provide enough information to inspire an interest, but not so much as to overload the reader with excessive and often incomprehensible medical terminology.

This has been achieved by looking at the principles involved rather than specifics, and where possible giving everyday examples of the systems described.

The Dark City (The Guardians of Elestra)

by Thom Jones

The Dark City is the first book in the Guardians of Elestra series. After seeing their grandfather sucked into a ball of light that disappears into an old lantern in their back yard, twins Derek and Deanna Hughes travel to the bizarre magical world of Elestra where they discover a shocking family secret. They find themselves in a race against the dark wizard Eldrack to find the magical moonstones that can grant a wizard new powers. They are helped along the way by the ancient wizard and fry cook Iszarre, whose wooden spoon wand is as powerful in the kitchen as it is on the magical battlefield, Tobungus, the tap dancing mushroom man who has a severe problem remembering the twins’ names, Glabber, the butter-obsessed snake wizard, and many others.

In the Dark City, the twins must figure out why Magia’s capital city, Amemnop, once known as the City of Light, is covered in a shield of darkness that has sucked the life and magic out of the residents. Their journey includes a trip to a library where the books talk, and sometimes argue with each other, a battle with flying beasts who show an extreme aversion to Derek’s flashlight, and a final battle in the icy waters of a huge fountain, where a lemon may just be the key to victory.

The Guardians of Elestra books are filled with incredible creatures, magical locations, altered realities, and a constant dose of humor. So, open the book, travel through the lantern post, and explore Elestra with its newest Mystical Guardians.

The Giants of the Baroka Valley (The Guardians of Elestra)

by Thom Jones

Derek and Deanna Hughes embark on their second adventure in the magical world of Elestra in search of another moonstone. This time, they have to go to the Baroka Valley where everything is huge, from the grains of sand to the wild chickens. With their friend Tobungus, the mushroom man, at their side, they face Green Thumb, a forest elf with a pair of magical thumbs, the Gong Beaters of the Floddan Lowlands, and the dark wizard Eldrack. The buzzing they hear is not just their heads ringing from the awful gong music, it’s the sound of eagle-sized bees swarming around them in a magical orchard. The story heats up even more when they are forced to ride down the River of the Dragon’s Breath on a boat that isn’t really a boat. In the end, another mystery is added to their journeys as they try to figure out who is helping them behind the scenes.

The twins find their journey slowed by an ornery monkey who doesn’t believe that they are Mystical Guardians and a pair of twenty foot tall giant trees (or giants who are trees, or trees who are also giants, or well they’re not sure how to describe them other than huge and wooden).

Lava creatures, rocks that turn into milkshakes (shaken milk, according to Tobungus), a snail-drawn carriage, nut-throwing owl sprites, off key grazing animals, a goose flight over a boiling river, a zoo where the creatures are paid to tell visitors about themselves, and a spell that leaves Derek with a fashion statement that is skin deep round out the story and make the journey through Elestra engaging and magical.

The little puppies pictured in this book were helped by this organization.

This is a Story Picture Book & Activity Guide written for children ages 4-6.

The included activities and games can be modified to meet the needs of younger or older children.

I wrote this book for you and your child to engage in meaningful story telling, dialogue, conversation, fun and play, but also to develop:

– Language Arts Skills

– Creativity

– Critical Thinking

– Math & Science Skills

– Gross and Fine Motor Skills.

Next to every picture in this book, you’ll find a description text with engaging questions, that will invite your child to participate in the story, expand their understanding and develop their Language Arts skills.

In the Activity Guide’s “Puzzles, Domino & Memory Games” section, you’ll find games, that will stimulate critical thinking and will help to develop early Math skills such as patterning, ordering and sequencing.

In the “Arts & Crafts” section, you’ll find ideas for fun and easy projects, that can help your child develop fine motor skills and muscle mastery.

The “Math & Science Projects” in this book are designed to instill a joy of learning, and help your child discover and explore early Math and Science concepts, such as quantity, shapes, patterns and relationships.

The activities in the “Games” section are intended to further social, emotional and physical development, such as learning about sharing and taking turns. Because children are invited to actively participate in the activities, the games in this book can also contribute to developing gross and fine motor skills.

In the “Dramatic Play Ideas” section of this book, children can discover and explore roles of people in their home, school or community. Through role play children can learn appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

If you would like additional information on dogs, puppies and how to take care of them, the “Resource Section” at the end of this book has information for you.

This book presents an ideal resource for lesson planning and home schooling. You can also use the enclosed activities, games, arts & crafts ideas to plan your next Puppy Birthday Party!

Last but not least, this book includes a free bonus gift for my readers!

Thank you and Enjoy!

With warm regards,

Nicola Kluge, PhD
