Step One: Locate Alien Flightsuit

by Tom Deaderick

Six years ago an alien flightsuit exploded in the atmosphere dropping fragments into a long-abandoned iron-mining camp in Bumpas Cove, Tennessee. Appalachian Trail hikers found one small artifact with inexplicable properties. The rest scattered around the deserted camp, until 14 year-old Leo and a uniquely isolated man uncover it. Government agents, a man bent by his own objectives, Leo and his mysterious protector converge on a high cliff face in the mountains along with the alien, who isn’t quite dead.

Synopsis

Life wasn’t always lonely and isolated for 14 year-old Leo. He remembers sitting in his mother’s warm lap with heavy snow falling outside as she read stories he already knew by heart. He drank in her unconditional love, never realizing how rare it was.

Standing outside the little knots of children at school, always outside, his young mind never rests its search for something he can do or say that will make a place for him. But he is failing and beginning to lose hope. The other children’s interests exist in a virtual world of posts and games. It is a world that is inaccessible to Leo. He and his mother have little more than necessities.

Denied a virtual world, he has only the real one. Miles from his little house in Bumpas Cove, Tennessee a chain hangs across an asphalt road crumbled by grass and trees. Beyond the chain, deeper into the wilderness lies an abandoned village where Iron Mountain’s mine workers once lived. Leo spends his days exploring the houses and mine works hidden deep in thousands of acres of mountain forest.

Wading a stream in search of a shortcut, he discovers a white glass-metal sleeve. He slides his arm in but cannot remove it. Leo is forced to recover other scattered pieces that assemble themselves into a full flightsuit, programmed to rescue its alien pilot. Now restored, it prepares for a thousand light-year return trip with Leo trapped inside as it waits for the alien to be restored into Leo’s mind.

Ultimately, Leo stands atop a high cliff, held helpless with the alien casting out his memories one by one, making room for itself. He is prisoner in mind and body.

But others have been drawn to the cliff, each with lives that have set them apart. The outcome will be shaped by their decisions and their own experiences as they face an alien entity that has no regard for their lives.

The Stair in the Wall – A ‘Love You as You Are’ Children’s Book

by Claire Ortalda

Every person and creature in The Stair in the Wall — as in life — has their own little quirks and faults..and you can be sure someone is going to point out each and every one of them.

But in Greenwood — the world 9-year-old Sylvia discovers when she finds the stair in the wall of her grandparents’ forbidding house — people’s differences are treated with love.

It all begins when Sylvia’s adventure-loving mother sets out to see the world – alone. Sylvia’s sad Papawhiskers buries himself in his bird collection. And Sylvia is packed off to her grandparents’ forbidding mansion, where everything she does — and everything she is, with her mocha-colored skin and long curly black hair — seems to be wrong.

Until, that is, she discovers the stair in the wall.

Every child from a broken family wants to bring her parents back together through her own efforts. And every child dreams of a group of friends – however “funny” and strange they are – who band together to solve each other’s problems.

Both wishes come true in The Stair in the Wall, a journey through a world teeming with helpful animals, scary ghosts and the twisting by-ways of a child’s imagination. Is the community of Greenwood really Sylvia’s own dream world? Is the gray wraith in reality Sylvia’s sadness at her separation from her parents? Each reader must make up her or his own mind.

The Stair in the Wall captures the hopes, dreams and fears of kids on the verge of discovering who they areâ?¦and what they can accomplish through their own courage and loving acceptance of others.

The Stair in the Wall is written in rich language in the tradition of The Chronicles of Narnia and The Wizard of Oz.

About the Author: Claire Ortalda is an award-winning fiction writer whose adult fiction frequently explores the juxtaposition of the whimsical with the realities and challenges of adult life. This is her first work of juvenile fiction. www.claireortalda.com

Luna the Stowaway (Luna Books)

by Luna Challis

Luna the Cat is best known as a crime fighter, but in this book she is trying to protect two of her rather helpless human pets.

Two of my humans were going on a holiday to Canada and the United States. I know how helpless humans are without a cat to look after them so I stowaway in Steve’s carry on baggage to keep them out of trouble in America.

This story has our adventures Canada where I had to stop Steve swimming up the Niagara Falls.

Steve tells a true but boring pirate story to Captain Bowman of the MS Eurodam who tries to avoid yawning. Steve makes himself ridiculous in many other ways.

This story is illustrated with over a hundred rather poor color pictures; Steve’s hands shake when he takes pictures. A few of the pictures are surprising like when Steve’s camera captures a picture of a New York resident on a roof.

We finish up in New York and experience a little of American life.

A cat’s eye view of a small part of the North American continent.

Humor is a strange thing. What one person finds funny might leave another person cold. I hope a few people will find this little book amusing..

Aesop’s Ghost (Book One) (Two Books of Aesop)

by Shannon Hill

Fables?

Who reads fables anymore?

We have tv, and movies, and internet, and video games, and various techno gadgetry…why read something as antiquated as a fable? Isn’t that a dead branch of literature, anyway?

If the above thoughts agree with your way of thinking, then this book is not for you.

But if you are intrigued by the thought that Aesop lived around 600 years before Jesus Christ, and that Aesop’s Fables have survived longer than the Bible…if you are fascinated by the thought that fables possess a uniquely powerful and nearly magical ability to foster within us self-growth, awareness, and understanding…if you are intrigued by the thought that the best minds of the ancient world and of the modern world have often studied and familiarized themselves with fables…then this book, a new collection of fables written in the Aesopic tradition, is likely worth your while. In addition, many of the stories here are also suitable for children of varying ages, making this book a highly valuable storybook for progressive-minded parents who want their children to have the benefits and advantages offered by exposure to insightful, thought-stimulating short stories.

The Lizard on the Rock

Once there was a Lizard that lived in a crevice located on the side of a large rock.

Everyday, the Lizard would climb out of his hole and find a place on top of the rock to sit and soak up the warmth of the sun. When the day ended and darkness came, he would leave the rock and search for food in the immediate vicinity, and then would once again return home as soon as he had found enough to eat. Everyday the Lizard did the same thing and this continued for years.

Inevitably, one day, the Lizard realized he had reached his Final Day. As he lay in his hole slowly becoming Forever Cold, he suddenly had a disconcerting thought; he suddenly regretted the way he had lived his life. There were many big rocks in the world, but the Lizard realized he only knew one of them and this regret now gnawed at him immeasurably.

Then the Lizard had an epiphany: he decided there were only two good types of regrets – those regrets that one recognizes and acts upon early enough to be meaningful, and those regrets that one doesn’t have at all.

These were the thoughts that filled the Lizard’s mind to the very end.

101 MOST AMAZING THINGS TO SAY TO YOUR CHILD : TO INSPIRE SELF-ESTEEM

by Kevin M.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, teacher or child, this book is about leaving the most amazing impression on a child, through wonderful expressions that can be shared everyday.

Since we all know that establishing their belief-system begins at an early age, my desire is for these expressions to help formulate and build their self-esteem- based

on the power of what we choose to say.

Consider it a form of chicken soup for a child’s “heart-drive” or a daily expresso

for a child’s spirit, to help get them through their day, or a season of self-doubt because just as we (adults) still need love and inspiration, it’s just as important for kids to receive it as well, who we know are so impressionable.

Anyway you slice it, I consider the words we express to any child should be carefully thought out, as it impacts their thinking and believing for a long time to come. The words in this book were sacredly crafted out of compassion and specifically composed to uplift your child, and every child’s life we may encounter (from day-to- day) based on love and divine truths. Ultimately however, what I also know is that, If you choose to take one message out this book and share it, I believe that it will not only be felt in the heart of your child, but by you as well.

It’s the amazing power of love.

How to Beat up a Bully – Enter The Dojo – The Furai Compilation; object 1; Book 1.

by Richard Skeet

TRANSFORM INTO SOMETHING: NEW; POWERFUL; DANGEROUS.

In the near future the survivors of DAY ONE send a message to the past to raise an ARMY.

MORE THAN ENTERTAINMENT -A TRAINING MANUAL for the FIERCEST WARRIORS in the GALAXY.

*

THE BELT

Interviewer: “Tell me how you became Furai.”

Eric: “When Portland, Oregon was VAPORIZED: I lived in a suburb; I survived the first day, or, DAY ONE, as the Alien Grays call it.

After the round up, worldwide, all survivors of the Gray massacre, are placed in labor camps.

We, the survivors, feed THE CONVEYOR BELT.

You can place anything on THE BELT, trees, bodies, dirt, rocks, grassâ?¦

THE BELT leads to a giant furnace miles away, taking the material on THE BELT; converting it into what the Grays need:

INPUT:

Water

Organic matter

Minerals

Trash

etc.

OUTPUT:

Energy

Food

Plastic

Steel

Ammunition

Rail guns

Shields

Propaganda

etc.

I’ve been BRANDED on my forehead. I’m forbidden from speaking during working hours; surrounded by men, women, children.

My orders: feed THE BELT!

We: dig, chop, chainsaw, bulldoze, hoist, heave, haul, push, pull. Tons of raw material are placed on THE BELT every second. Ten hours a day we labor; 7 days a week.

When I have a question, I look up; the SCREEN tells me what to do.

When one of us passes out from exhaustion, or dies, they’re thrown on THE BELT, with the rest of the material.

In front of me LIFE: trees, grass, birds.

Behind me: THE BELT leading to the furnace; our mobile living quarters; DESOLATION.

Upon awakening, we look forward to the living horizon, ignoring the dead trenches behind us.

EARTH is being STRIP-MINED; converted into Gray raw material. Every: useful; living; or green thing, EVERYTHING that can be chopped, shoveled or ground is placed on THE BELT.

After 10 hours of labor, the doors to our living quarters open; we go inside, eat, socialize, fall asleep.

We live a SPARTAN existence.

We’re never cold or hungry.

It: never rains; is always 75 degrees and sunny. Rain and clouds are burned away, by an energy shield following our camp, along with our living quarters.

The Grays encourage BREEDING; all of the women, of child bearing age, are pregnant. Women who refuse to breed are thrown on THE BELT.

The SCREENS tell us: work! be happy; don’t ask questions; breed; we comply.

ROCK MUSIC is playing from the loudspeakers.

The Grays don’t talk to us; they communicate with one another telepathically. Our only communication with the Grays: the messages appearing on the SCREENS.

This is what has become of man: FEED THE BELT! BE HAPPY! DON’T ASK QUESTIONS! BREED! So we do.

I’m fast asleep on day 45; a man wakes me up, â??follow me if you want to LIVE.’ He jumps back through the hole in my floor; I follow. I crawl, in an underground tunnel, for 1 hour.

I march, with thousands of other branded men, women, children, briskly for 24 hours straight.

A large group gather in a huge cave, in the rain forests of Oregon, behind a waterfall; somewhere in the Columbia River Gorge.

Joe is a small man with a deep voice, a large scar across his face.

Joe: â??You are here because YOU HAVE BEEN SUMMONED. Right now you have a choice: you can go back to THE BELT, or, join the Furai.

YOU HAVE BEEN FREED FROM THE BELT, RIGHT NOW; THIS MOMENT.

JOIN US:

We’ll teach you how to: FIGHT; acquire wealth; build an ARMY; organize; communicate in secret, gather intelligence; lead an army; send these evil fucking bastards back to hell!

We are NOT an army of FOLLOWERS, a hive mind of automatons.

We are a HYDRA, a multi-headed monster from greek mythology; if an attacker strikes one head, 4 heads attack the attacker.

If a head is cut off; two more grow in its place.

When GOD made man; He created a WEAPON.

The Legend of Lee Hall

by John Sperath Sr

It is April of 2012. An entire winter has gone by in the little town of Lee Hall, Virginia. Spring is in the air, the flowers are blooming…and fourteen year old Holly Tucker has been missing for six long months. The authorities believe that she has been abducted, but the case is cold. Stone cold. Her twin brother, Johnny, is getting weary of seeing his distraught parents agonizing over her sudden disappearance day and night. The nightmare has lasted long enough and he can no longer take just sitting around, doing nothing about it.

Along with his close friends Duane, Chip and Virginia, Johnny decides to launch his own investigation, starting with the dilapidated ruins of the old Riverbend Plantation. He has no idea why, but his gut is telling him that his sister’s abduction has nothing to do with kidnappers and everything to do with the plantation and it’s surrounding property. Strange things occur there…and then there is the legend, passed down through generations by the slaves and their descendants.

During the investigation, the young adventurers discover a cave that was used to hide valuables during the Civil War in 1862, when Northern soldiers invaded the area. But this is no ordinary cave, with brilliant blue walls that seem to be alive and full of some kind of bizarre, electrical like energy. They don’t know it yet, but they have entered a portal in time. Could it be that Holly was abducted after all…by time itself? And if so, where is she and what is happening to her?

Join Johnny and his friends as they travel through the ages, thwarting danger, meeting famous people and experiencing America’s exciting and turbulent beginning, all while searching frantically for his long lost sister. Will they find her?
