Killing Faith (A Gabriel De Sade Thriller, Book 1)

by Eric Meyer

Killing Faith is the first book of the intriguing ‘Faith’ series of novels about an NYPD detective,a former Special Forces operative. Teamed with FBI Special Agent Faith Ward, their methods are unconventional, often brutal, and at times downright mystical.

When dismembered bodies start to appear in New York City, the search for a serial killer begins. Leading the hunt is Gabriel de Sade, a tough Manhattan detective. What should be a straightforward murder investigation escalates when yet more dismembered bodies are found. A very sick, psychotic murderer is loose on the streets of the city. Yet the case is to become more complicated than he could imagine. The nightmare is just beginning for de Sade, a Delta Force veteran of Afghanistan.

The FBI are also hunting for the serial killer and their evidence points to a Russian Mafiya baron, Grigory Gordieva. The pursuit leads Gabriel to Moscow with an FBI partner, Special Agent Faith Ward. They find themselves pitted against political interference from both American and Russian governments. Yet when they ask for help from the Moscow Militia de Sade finds them both corrupt and on the Mafiya payroll.

Their only assistance comes from an unexpected quarter, a Russian Orthodox Bishop. With his help, de Sade reaches the heart of the Gordieva’s Mafiya operations. The Russian retaliates by kidnapping Faith Ward. With only a discredited Militia detective to help him, he takes on the Moscow Mafiya. De Sade adapts his Delta Force tactics to wage a secret war on the Moscow streets. The action builds to a climax that is shattering and extraordinary.

The five books in the ‘Faith’ series include:

Killing Faith – Book 1

Vanessa Wester’s debut novel takes you from the University of Southampton to the depths of the Amazon. An imaginary citadel is waiting to be discovered full of interesting characters, traditions and cultures. There are so many twists and details you will not be able to put this book down.

“Although the author is inspired by novels in the same genre there is nothing wrong in that – most of us take inspiration from one source or another. Vanessa Wester has clearly taken inspiration from her own life and from her imagination. She has clearly spent time creating the imaginary citadel and understands its geography and customs which are made clear to the reader. The storyline flows smoothly… I always think there must be something to recommend a book which you would not normally select…” Christine Thompson, Gibraltar Chronicle.

‘A great twist on the usual vampire tale. This is a very exciting read. Would appeal to the Twilight fan-base, but has definitely put its own twist on the genre. A very well constructed piece, all the more impressive for being a debut novel.

‘I loved this story! It was a fantastic start to a series which I hope to see more from soon, and I loved the characters! There was also a great twist in the tale, and it was original and well-thought out. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something new in their paranormal romance/fantasy section, and I can’t wait to see what this author comes
up with in her next books!’

‘I really enjoyed the characters, settings and narrative and couldn’t put it down. So many little twists and details all the way through, super. I can’t wait to read the next in the series and would love to see it as a film.’

“â?¦ a fast, smooth read, chock full of tension with an action payoff.”
— Frank Zafiro, author of WAIST DEEP and the River City Crime series

“Vacation, a time to put your feet up and relax, unless, of course your name is Sam McRae. Step back in time to the year 2006. The place is Ocean City, Maryland, a summertime paradise replete with sun, sea, sand, and … murder. Thus begins this gritty tale and McRae’s attempt to clear a dear friend, who has been charged with the heinous crime. — Scott Nicholson, author of LIQUID FEAR

“Sam’s sleek, sarcastic narration propels this satisfying legal caper, which also manages to score points about lingering regional racial prejudice, providing a sad reminder that justice doesn’t always prevail unless the just take action. — W.D. Gagliani, author of WOLF’S TRAP, WOLF’S EDGE, and SAVAGE NIGHTS

“IDENTITY CRISIS and LEAST WANTED are tough acts to follow, but Debbi Mack meets her own high standards in RIPTIDE, attorney Sam McRae’s third outing. Sam’s attempt to help a friend who’s been charged with murder leads her into an insular world where the secrets are so thick they create their own ‘riptide.’ A great read.”
— Timothy Hallinan, Edgar-nominated author of the Poke Rafferty and Junior Bender thrillers

Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy: an Inspector Sohlberg mystery (Inspector Sohlberg Mysteries)

by Jens Amundsen

A Vik Crime/Blue Salamander Edition 2012.

New translation with added material by the author.

Chief Inspector Harald Sohlberg returns to the Oslo police district where his career started and almost ended in disgrace and scandal.

Although he is experienced with hardened and heartless criminals, C.I. Harald Sohlberg has never met as devious and brilliant a criminal mind as when he is called to investigate an unsolved case in Holmenkollen, one of Oslo’s sleepy and boring suburbs.

C.I. Sohlberg meets his match amid the beautiful homes and gardens of Oslo’s well-to-do professional class. An elementary schoolâ??Grindbakken Skole, Pilot Hill Schoolâ??becomes Ground Zero for the most shocking and unforgettable of crimes.

Confronted with his own difficult and controversial past, Sohlberg must now find a missing 7-year-old boy who vanished while he was inside his school, surrounded by classmates, teachers, and parents at a science fair. The case brings back memories of Norway’s worst serial predator, Lommemannen The Pocket Man, and his predecessor, The Smiley Face Killer.

Chief Inspector Sohlberg has spent decades investigating Norway’s most devious criminals as a Police Chief Inspector in Oslo. Sohlberg has also hunted some of world’s most violent and ruthless criminals as an adviser to Interpol. Years of working abroad for Interpol have made him a stranger to his own country and people. Rumors of his wife joining a religious cult in America certainly don’t help.

The Harold Sohlberg crime novel series by Jens Amundsen joins Norway’s best crime detective series, including the Inspector Konrad Sejer series by Karin Fossum, the Inspector Gunnarstranda series by K. O. Dahl, and the Detective Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbø.

Dark undercurrents of Norwegian and modern society pull this classic of Nordic noir into new and uncharted waters that are as terrifying as they are thrilling. It’s time to enjoy Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy, the debut novel of Jens Amundsen. His novels on Chief Inspector Harald Sohlberg masterfully blend the psychological novel into the crime, suspense, thriller, and detective genre.

Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy introduces the characters and situations that explode in White Death in Tromsø, the sequel to Sohlberg and the Missing Schoolboy.

This book includes the first chapter of White Death in Tromsø.

The Illustrated Mother Goose Murders (Matt Cooper, Private Eye)

by Bill Bernico

The bodies are piling up around Los Angeles and Matt’s on the case. The victims all seem to have one thing in common–Mother Goose. Each victim has a name similar to the name in the nursery rhymes and they are finding their demise much the same as the Mother Goose characters. Can Matt stay ahead of this killer and try to figure out who his next victim will be? He has to work fast.

Reception to this story was good, but several readers were disappointed that it wasn’t longer. They wanted a novel. Well, novels run 70,000 words and there just isn’t enough material for a novel. However, I did add more material and more than doubled it’s original size. And I added illustrations for each chapter. This version ended with more than 20,000 words and the story is much fuller and more exciting. See if you don’t agree. It’ll be a well-spent 99 cents.

The Cooper series consists of a total of 90 stories to date. This is one of my favorites.
