“PRAISE for The Vegas Series”

“Love, love and LOVE this series!” ~ Reviewed by Shirleen Miller

“Could not put any of the VEGAS series books down. Loved Mimi
writing and character development. Highly recommend all the books
in this series.” ~Reviewed by Sandy M

***Fast-paced continuous action,
**Steamy hot romance,

*And… conflict, conflict, conflict makes this set a must buy!!

This sizzling box set for the Vegas Series starts off where we meet up with hardworking, hard-assed Detective Aurora Morelli. Attempting to arrest a rapist who attacks her colleague then continually thwarts her attempts to bring him to justice–to a horrific nightmare where her new baby is kidnapped–this scrappy detective does everything in her power to control these events. Kai Lawson, a partner she doesn’t want, fights against and in the end accepts (in her job and in her bed) is the hero in these first few stories. The bald-headed, purse-carrying hotshot knows just how to pull her crank and the outcome is entertaining. Their blockbuster story will get you totally invested in this series.

In the last three books, along comes Lisa Jordan, a kick-ass kinda gal who loves wearing the shield as a Vegas detective and enjoys the more strenuous aspects of her job. She steps in for a while as Aurora’s partner while Kai is MIA. Her story begins here and ends the series as she fights her attraction for wealthy casino owner, Jeff Waters. After one wild night, the charismatic charmer digs his way into her heart and that of the three-year-old nephew in her care. The fact that he leaves her speechless, literally, detracts from his appeal for Lisa since as a self-professed chatterbox, it’s the first time ever. On the other hand, everything else about the man is fascinating. She can no more fight her memories than stop herself from rescuing him from two killers holding him hostage in revenge for the mistakes of his father.

Phoenix homicide detectives Wynter Williams and Vince Farina are at the crime scene investigating a charred body found inside a torched Cadillac. They ask Jake to consult on the case. Local law enforcement and prosecutors parade in front of the cameras, blaming the actions on a maladjusted serviceman, using the incident to bolster their own standing. Veterans in the area bristle at the treatment, threatening to lash back at any time. Townspeople claim they no longer feel safe on the streets of Hamilton.

With just days remaining before Lukas wakes and is hauled off to prison for the rest of his life, a call is made to budding attorney Drake Bell for assistance. The Movie Murderer

by joan klengler

The newspapers called him “The Movie Murderer”. Like “The Hillside Strangler” or “The Night Stalker”. You know what I mean. In L.A., every psycho gets a stage name.

In this case, it started with a very smart detective who was, among other things, a film buff, like a lot of Angelenos. He saw something that no one else saw but his theory was not taken seriously. Because of that, one of his colleagues mentioned it to a reporter from The Times, late one night after a few too many drinks in a downtown bar in a neighborhood teetering between gentrification and homelessness.

Until then, there were just a series of killings of girls no one would miss. But once the reporter wrapped his imagination around the concept, it became news.

Somewhere in the hills of Hollywood, the killer opened his morning copy of the L.A. Times and smiled. He had begun for his own amusement, sure no one would get the joke. He had despaired of finding a worthy adversary, or any adversary at all. But he had underestimated.
And so the game began.

The pawn in the game is sexy, sassy Katie O’Hara. Caught up in a passionate affair with LAPD Detective Rick Sandler, Katie unwittingly becomes the object of a killer’s desire.

Behind You!: 1 (DI Banaham and Sergeant Alison Grainger)

On the other side of the curtain, Banham and his reluctant squad find the glamour distinctly tarnished. Rivalries, grudges and illicit liaisons begin to surface as the investigation gets under way, and it’s soon clear that the dressing rooms are a hotbed of long-standing resentments. A second death leaves Banham in no doubt that there’s a murderer on the loose – but the panto is sold out and show must go on.

Devouring Milo

by Tonia Brown

Devouring Milo is a clever, compelling and bloodthirsty read, that I cannot recommend highly enough.”~Graeme Reynolds, author of the High Moor series

Something is devouring Milo, and this time it isn’t just his guilty conscience.

Meet the Bentley brothers; Milo, a troubled young man who slaughters women at the behest of his cruel older brother, Spencer. Their already complicated lives slip into a spiral of madness when Milo is attacked by a werewolf during a routine body disposal. While Milo is unsure what is happening to him, Spencer finds he prefers the company of the wolf, and does everything he can to keep Milo from discovering the truth. The truth, however, is a complication all its own, with or without the beast.

The family that preys together stays together, in this wild take on the werewolf mythology.

Hard Close (Lexington Avenue Express)

by Jess Butcher

Hard Close (Lexington Avenue Express – Short Fiction)

Barry sat behind his littered desk watching her as she dialed the telephone. I’ve got a live one, he thought. He swiveled in his chair and popped a breath mint into his mouth without her noticing. As she talked, he began typing information into the sales-contract form flashing on the screen in front of him.

“But, honey,” she cooed into her cell phone. “It’s so perfect for us and they’ll give us top dollar for our Tercel! Won’t you just come take a look?”

“Absolutely not,” Hector said. He knew his wife had bought the salesman’s spiel. The last thing he needed right now was another payment.

“ABSOLUTELY NOT!” he repeated, shouting this time. They’d been married less than a year. During those few months, he’d allowed his new bride to run up nearly nine thousand dollars in credit card debt.

“But, Hector, sweetie, it’s so beautiful–” She heard the line go dead and tears filled her eyes.

The salesman sat looking at her from across the desk. He nodded thoughtfully as he handed her a tissue and leaned back in his chair, his eyes skillfully appraising her. He was confident she wouldn’t notice him gazing at her breasts. After all, he’d been selling cars for years; he was a professional.

Excerpt from The Trust:

. . . I woke up at 3:32 A.M. in a cold sweat. . . . FEAR . . . ! What had I done? What papers that we signed did he actually take? I didn’t know! I didn’t know. I woke Stephen, babbling incoherently about losing the house and “what did I do?” . . . what did I do. I tried to be so careful, but I’m so stupid. What did I do?”

“You’re getting all upset about nothing,” Steve said. “Maybe you should start taking you’re pills again for a while.”

“Why? I’m not getting sick. I’m just afraid.”

“You’re obsessing.”

“Oh, shut up. I am not obsessing. I’m concerned! Damn… Normal people get â??concerned’, right? People with labels â??obsess’! Can’t I just be concerned about something?”

“Okay, you’re concerned. But it’s 3 o’clock in the morning. We can’t do anything about it now. In the morning – we’ll call him.”

“No. Don’t call him. He’ll have time to take out whatever he wants. Just go there and get the papers.”

“Just show up … at his office … And what if he’s not there? Do I go away and just show up again? How many times should I do this?”

“Oh, come on. I don’t know. Just do it.”

“Okay. Okay. I know you’re afraid and I’ll try to do everything that I can to make you feel more comfortable about this, but can I please get some sleep now? I have to go to work in the morning.”

“Okay. But you’ll go get the papers, right? … Well, you had to pee, anyway. … What?… What are you laughing at.”

“You’re funny.”

“I’m not funny. Stop laughing.”

“Don’t do this to me.”

“Do what? … So, you’ll get the papers, right?”

“Right. I’ll get the papers. …if I can,” he added. “Why don’t you roll over and I’ll rub your back for a while.”

“Okay.” “Harder.”

“You know, I can call the Bar Association tomorrow and check on him if you want me to.”

“Yeah. That’s a good idea. I did it already – numbers of months ago. I guess we can do it again though. Yeah, that would make me feel better. …I’m sure he’s okay. I mean, they said he was okay when I called the last time. But you could call again. Thank you.”

“Okay. I’ll call tomorrow.”

7:15 found Steve rushing to get out the door. He was in the kitchen making his lunch. I was remembering Sara’s very good advice: “Once I’ve chosen a stone, I never let it out of my hands,” she had said. This sent another shiver down my back. “I know how he did it,” I said.

Steve looked at me sternly. “Did what?” he said. He obviously didn’t want to have this conversation. And he especially didn’t want to have it now, but he stopped and gave me his full undivided attention.

“Switched the papers,” I said. “I can tell you how he did it. If he did it,” I added.

Kate has her reservations, but she figures two’s company, so where’s the harm in joining forces? But she hadn’t bargained on Sasha wanting to muscle in on the action. Now, isn’t three a crowd?

Sasha’s past has come back to haunt her in more ways than one, and she is still paying the price on several counts. Hauntingly beautiful, but psychologically damaged from childhood to maturity, Sasha survives by hiding her true feelings from everyone, including herself.

Stuart is used to controlling every situation. His whole life has involved manipulation and power games. But this time he has an emotional tie to more than one person involved in the power struggle. As Stuart plays the puppet master’s role, Creed has his eye on each one of the delicate strings, waiting patiently for the chance to sever them, and the lives hanging in the balance.

Petrito has unfinished business, but he’s finding it hard to decide whether it’s with Sophie, or Kate, or a heady merging of the two very different personalities. As if life wasn’t already dangerous enough, he decides to throw himself into the cooking pot, despite knowing his partner is definitely too hot to handle.

Espionage, conspiracies and passion, and it’s all in the name of retribution. Or is it?

‘A movement in the shadows down by the riverbank registered in Kate’s side vision, and she jumped quickly to her right, flattening herself against the wall, and instinctively wrapping her left hand firmly around the small gun in her pocket. The lamp positioned near the bed was currently switched on, and she was grateful that its dim glow didn’t make it to the windows.
As she kept her eyes on the spot where she’d seen a slight movement, the dark shape of a person gradually became discernible amongst the silhouettes of the trees and shrubbery. And if she wasn’t mistaken, the person hiding down there was waiting for something or someone.
Kate sprinted across the room to an antique chest of drawers, and grabbed a small case. Within seconds she was back at the side of the window, focusing the tiny, high-powered binoculars on the spot by the riverbank as she switched the controls to night vision.
A smile slowly spread across her face when she zeroed in on Anna, just visible through the willow branches that surrounded her. “Oh dear me, surely I haven’t let one of the enemy right into the heart of my family. Maybe I’ll have to let Arthur have his way, after all,” she whispered to herself.
“Too bloody right!” growled a voice from just behind her shoulder.
Kate spun, gun raised and finger tensing, only just managing to stop her instinctive reaction before she blew a hole right through Arthur’s huge girth. “For God’s sake, Bling! How many times have I warned you not to creep up on me? It’s not safe! Not after the amount of training I’ve had to shoot first and apologise to the deceased later,” she rebuked him.
Arthur took the binoculars out of Kate’s unresisting hand and held them up to his own eyes. “Oh yeah! Just as I thought. The devious, little madam!”‘

1970 – Not for the first time in the last four hundred and fifty-two years, gifted artist Annie Carr has brutally stabbed and killed a man. But this time there are witnesses, and with a vindictive district attorney against her, she faces a possible death sentence. Desperate for a way out, she resorts to a dangerous tactic – she tells the truth about herself.

2012 – Despite having always enjoyed perfect health, forty-six-year-old Sara Farsley has worries other women would kill for: she isn’t ageing – she still looks and feels exactly as she did when she was thirty.

Sara can remember that when she was a small child her mother told her they would both live for ever, but her long-dead mother was insane and guilty of homicide.

Having lived her life trying to forget her past, Sara is persuaded by her family to find the truth, and the deeper she digs, the more bizarre the truth becomes.

The second book in the Rare Traits Trilogy, Delusional Traits continues the story of the 15th-century Renaissance artist John Andrews and others like him. The now almost six-hundred-year-old John never met his daughter Paola, born in Naples in 1518, but not only is he certain that she shared his rare traits, he is also convinced that she is still alive. His hopes are raised when his art-and-computer-expert friend Ced Fisher shows him a number of brilliant paintings by an artist called Annie Carr that can’t be distinguished from the work of a 19th century female artist. But then John’s hopes are dashed when he discovers that Annie Carr is dead. Or was her death a delusion?
