Lady of Regret (Songs of the Scorpion – Volume II)

by James A. West

Slaying a murderous lord has earned Rathe Lahkurin, the outcast Scorpion of Cerrikoth, no favors. Nobles, as it happens, frown on the killing of fellow noblesâ??unless they are the ones doing the killing.

On the run, Rathe and his companion seek refuge amid the Gyntor Mountains. They should have taken another route, for those savage crags are rife with stalking horrors, black sorceries, and men who have traded their humanity for wicked hungers.

But there are worse things hunting Rathe. A swordsman of shadow with a fondness for tormenting his victims. Devious monks of the Path of Knowing, men with a lust for magical power, especially that of the Wight Stone. Crazed townsfolk who like nothing better than to see an outlander cut to pieces.

Rathe has a sharp sword and sharper wits. At his side stands a pair of grubby waifs, brother and sister, with dark secrets all their own, and a strong ally with an obsession for feasting and women. But such weapons are small use against his greatest enemy, the ghostly Lady of Regret of Ravenholdâ??the Hunting Bitch and her Wardens of Tanglewood, an army that craves the warm blood of the living.

After I left for college, I thought I’d never see Eden again. But I found myself headed back four years later, destitute and unable to find a job anywhere else. Still, I was adamant nothing would keep me there for long.

Then I met the intoxicating Dax Allard. Copper-colored eyes, skin that emanated an exceptional heat, and a host of strange talents… It wasn’t long before I was drunk on him.

But Dax’s past was darker than mine, teeming with ancient secrets. Falling for him could cost me my life.

I had two choices: walk away or deal with the perilous consequences.

It was no choice at all.

The Wolf’s Call (Two-Natured London)

by Susanna Shore

Wolves and humans aren’t an easy mix. But what if she weren’t a human?

“Are you trying to intimidate me, Mr Green?” she asked calmly, refusing to lean back.

“Call me Rafe.” But she just stared at him quietly, her arched brow challenging him to answer her question. It agitated his wolf, but he was so aroused he could barely breathe. He had never met a woman like her. “Yes, I am,” he answered, his every word deliberate. He pressed his hands on the armrests of her chair and leaned closer to her face, never breaking the eye contact. “Is it working?” Closing in the short distance, he kissed her.

Having been raised by humans-first parents, Charlotte Thornton is completely unprepared for a man like Raphael Green, a wolf-shifter. After a lifetime of controlling herself, the onslaught of emotions he causes in her, both lust and aggravation, seem like too much to handle. Unlike human men around her, Rafe is not weak. But neither is she, and Rafe is about to learn it. She finds herself drawn to him unlike any man before, only to learn that he won’t date humans. But what if she weren’t a human?

Rafe never thought he would pursue a human, let alone a woman as dominant as Charly, but his wolf side has other ideas. For a shifter, ignoring their beast’s choice is practically impossible, but he will try; his brother’s marriage is enough of a warning. But as he is drawn to her with a maddening lust, it becomes difficult to prevent his wolf from putting out its call for her. Then her life is threatened and everything changes.

From the high-end neighbourhood of London to peaceful countryside, their enemies hunt them. Time for making up their minds is running out.

Revised edition, October 2012.

Godiva Anglesey, Chocolate Labrador, and the ruggedly handsome English Mastiff Cynerik are forced to team up against power-hungry werewolves when Cynerik discovers an ancient Ohio mound that may hold answers to their shifter history in the New World. Knowing that the secrets of the mound could give the dog-shifters an advantage in the ongoing contest for power, Pack Alpha Sybilla challenges the timid Godiva to a battle for the territory. Godiva, who has no interest in battling anyone, must turn from running her small town library and train for a challenge she knows she has no chance of winning. She has enough on her hands with a malicious book-worm infestation, a censorship campaign, and a lawsuit. Just when she thinks things couldn’t get any worse, Godiva’s mother announces that family tradition dictates that Godiva must be married by Summer Solstice… to a Druid. Godiva doesn’t even know any Druids.

All Godiva ever wanted was to live a simple life, retrieving books for library patrons and keeping people happy. She’s no hero, and she doesn’t have what it takes to face down werewolves or save the world. Cynerik, however, believes differently.

Together they must find a way to defeat the werewolves, save the Shipsfeather library, protect the most important archeological discovery in dog-shifter history, restore the dogs to global power… and, just maybe, find love along the way.

Therein he must view the land through the eyes of his protagonist, a man tasked with killing six powerful individuals that threaten the stability of an empire.

An innkeeper’s son is torn from his comfortable life and thrown into chaos after uncovering a murderer’s secret.
A farmer’s daughter flees the murder of her abusive former lover into the arms of something entirely worse.
A Warden uncovers old enemies and relives a painful decision in his task of upholding the law.
A woman schemes in high places against a former love at the feet of the Emperor himself.
A blacksmith’s past finally catches up with him and the consequences of his denials soon become fatal.
A sewer-dwelling fugitive attempts to undermine a tyrant with the help of a mysterious and powerful ally.
A desert creature is captive to the very beasts its kind hunted.
An assassin is exiled for a subversive truth implied and must exact vengeance in dangerous circumstances.

From the peaks of the white city of Levanin to the deserts of Sah’kel, these entwined characters drive the plot forth to its inevitable conclusion.

A conclusion that Jakob himself has never written.

Children of a Broken Sky (The Redemption Chronicle)

by Adam J Nicolai

The peasants called it “The Storm.”

On a cold autumn morning seven years ago, the sky exploded with silent lightning. In its wake, everything changed.

Now the sun rises in the south, if it rises at all. Animals go mad. Crops ripen and die overnight. The Church – a body of miracle-workers who can heal the sick and walk through fire – warns that God’s final judgment is at hand.

The world will soon end.

Now, stories tell of men that speak with beasts and peasants who work their own miracles. The Church decries these heretics, hunting them like animals and demanding the same of the faithful.

In a remote village, a small group of childhood friends are caught in the crossfire. Accused of heresy by the Church and sentenced to death, they escape their village as it burns behind them.

But some may find hope.

Their Church hunts them. A cursed world assails them. To survive, one of them will learn the true meaning of her beliefs; another, that some portents can be deceiving. But only one revelation has a chance to save them:

That they are not forsaken. They have each other.

Bestselling Kindle Suspense author Adam J. Nicolai invites you to a land beneath a broken sky, where sorceries clash with miracles, mountains are crowned with lightning, and faith – true faith – can topple empires.

The Haircut, a New Year’s Tale

by Donna Callea

Two days after Christmas, 1948, in a city that could be New York, a young woman prepares to get a life-altering haircut. She’s a princess, a post-war refugee, from an Eastern European principality that no longer exists. And she’s being forced by her guardians– her nefarious aunt and uncle– to marry an obscenely rich industrialist who’s got something of a hair fetish. The man, it seems, is aroused only by her amazingly long, glorious hair. So to save herself, she decides to get it all cut off. But she doesn’t count on falling in love with the handsome young barber who refuses, at first, to do her bidding. Nor does the barber count on becoming entranced by the strangest customer he’s ever encountered. Even after the severely shorn former princess is beaten beyond recognition for her act of rebellion, the barber, a widower still grieving for his late wife, finds her irresistible. Add to the mix Misha, an angel from the Old Country whose specialty is New Year’s Eve. Ultimately, “The Haircut” is a story that weaves whimsy with romance, plus more serious themes, as it underscores the timelessness and hope of the season in which it’s set.

99 Gods: War

by Randall Farmer

“War” is the first book of the 99 Gods Trilogy.

“I’ll make this short and sweet, as I’m not accustomed to public speaking in forums like this. As you’ve just seen, I can do miracles. My name is Dubuque, I’m a Living Saint directing God Almighty’s miracles, and I am but one of 99. We’re here to end national war, a new commandment sent by God, and our creators trained us in how to end wars. Beyond that, we’re here to do good.” So says Dubuque, a North American Territorial God, on the day of his arrival. The people of Earth, shocked and pleased at the sudden appearance of the 99 Gods, expect utopia.

However, instead of ending war, the Gods trigger many new conflicts and cause economic and political mayhem. In addition, they force many formerly hidden powers into the open. Conflicts soon arise between the Gods, between the Gods and these hidden powers, and between the Gods and ordinary people.

“These Gods remind me of puppy dogs,” Nessa, a marginally sane telepath, says. “House-training them is going to take a great many whacks on the nose. What happened to their sense of ethics and morality, anyway?” She and her slightly saner telekinetic husband, Ken, must deal with the 99 Gods because, much to their dismay, some of the 99 Gods have decided to attack them.

“I don’t even pretend to be as limited as a CEO,” the just-starting-out woman God Atlanta says. She will discover how much more complicated the God business is than her previous profession as a Marine aviator.

“With the 99 Gods around, though, where’s the need for faith? You can just go ask them,” Dave, a businessman, says. He is dying of cadmium poisoning and needs a miracle. He will, over time, learn the price of such things.

“Thy will be done. I submit myself to you. Whatever thou wilst, let it be done to me,” John prayed. He, an abnormally long-lived magician hunter and holy man, initially welcomed the Gods – until one of the Gods attacked him and marked him for death. How far will he go to defend himself against the Gods?

Hidden dangers from within and without will reveal themselves, testing all.

Visible Through Darkness

by Auden D. Johnson

What if you were the only one? How strong would you be?

Ethics, morals, compassionâ?? what if they didn’t exist? What if the world treated those words as curses? Laws mean nothing. Commitment means nothing. Jade Greer’s parents taught her the old, moral, ways. She still clings to their teachings. The world rejects her. She has suffered. But, her storm is over. Or, is it?

His smile widened. His eyes rolled around in his head. He was going to say something that would ravage her already damaged body. An unusual call leads her to Serin, a prisoner trapped in darkness for twenty years. Saving him leads Jade to a world for beings with power. A world her parents were once a part of.

They were alone in a street she didn’t recognize. Good. No one would interfere.

She lunged at him. He fell backwards. She straddled his chest and beat her fist and her frustrations into his face. No one would care what she did to him. He made her relive everything this world represented and everything she couldn’t have. Her fists burned. No one would care. People were supposed to care. He wore a wedding ring. He had a wife and maybe children. This world didn’t raise people to honor such commitments.

What Mom and Dad had was beautiful. She once wished for something like that. People like him turned that dream to ash.

She punched and punched. He stopped moving. Why was she born into such an ugly world? Why couldn’t she be selfish like everyone else?

His face caved under her blows. Finally, something bent to her will. Her fist drilled though his skull. Jade’s blood sang. His head became bloody ground beef flecked with hard pieces. She punched concrete. She needed to stop. Her body wouldn’t listen. Sharp pain slid up her arms. Stop. Gore splashed into her face. Stop. Her body froze.

The Last Ruble – Part II – The Assassins by Key West Writer Joe D Wells

by Joe D. Wells

I wrote The Last Ruble – Part I – A Story is Born to setup this book – The Last Ruble – Part II – The Assassins. Part I introduces to the stories’ two main characters – Jack Rivers and Vladimir.

In Part I, you meet Jack who is an investment banker working for a small firm in Memphis. Jack has no fear and goes after the larger accounts which can only normally be obtained by the larger, well-known brokerage firms on Wall Street. But he never gives and up, finally getting his chance to trade the markets with the big boys. His clients are from the Middle East and have more in mind for Jack than just trading the markets for them. It seems his hard work and trait of never giving up has caught their attention and they send him off on a journey to look for hidden treasure.

Also in Part I, you meet Vladimir, who is a Russian soldier living in the early 1900’s, verse Jack who is living in present times. Vladimir and a group of other Russian soldiers are involuntarily recruited to learn to become Americans to try and save the sole survivor of the Russian royal family after the 1917 take over. All of the members of the Royal Family are executed but one. It becomes Vladimir’s job to get the baby out of Russian and to his new life in America at all cost. The baby carries a hidden secret which few know about, but are willing to die for to learn.

Now in Part II, both Jack and Vladimir continue their separate journeys. Jack on one hand is seeking to find the map to the sunken treasure, while Vladimir is trying to hide and protect his family from those who seek the map. Neither man knows one another in Part I, but their lives, which they are living in different times, begin to come together in Part II.

In Part II, Vladimir is put to the test about family loyalty. He lost his first family in Russian (Part I) and wonders if he will ever see them again. Then again in Part II, after getting his second family to America, he is put to the test so hard he considers ending it all to escape the horror brought into this life.

In Part II, both men are in New Orleans. Jack is searching the past for Vladimir, who leaves New Orleans many years before Jack arrives, but Jack finds clues, which leads him to Key West, were he learns more about Vladimir and in turn he is cursed with the knowledge of the King’s hidden treasure, which is handed down to him, by no other than Vladimir.

Along the way, both men encounter good and not so good situations. Some funny and some not so funny.

And yes, then will be a third book. I have already starting thinking about it.

From Her Blood

by Julie Geistfeld

Book 3 of the HER BLOOD series.

From her blood a new hope was born.

From her blood a call echoed.

He wanted to learn about a past that had touched his life from the moment he was born. He wanted a piece of her he had never really seen. What he found when he landed in that desert valley was a place that cried out to his spirit and awakened a desire which had been dormant inside him.

When he found her past, he found a reason to let love in.

When he awakened her past, he discovered the strength that flowed to him FROM HER BLOOD.

Ryan always understood what he was. He understood his origins and had peace with the past. So when he sets out to discover a glimpse of his mother’s beginnings he has no idea what his father’s repeated warnings mean. “Don’t awaken your mother’s past.” Well, he’s curious after that.

When he flies into Sun Valley on a clear spring day he discovers an oasis that captures his heart and a girl who captures his dreams. It doesn’t take long before his promises start to unravel and when his mother’s past comes to life, so does Her Blood, which is fueled by a desire to protect the things he loves.

FROM HER BLOOD came life.

FROM HER BLOOD came strength.

And FROM HER BLOOD came a love that he is just beginning to understand.
