The Shark in the Park

by Mark Watson

The Shark in the Park by Mark Watson and Pablo Michau

“Highly original, imaginative and thrilling.”

“The best illustrated children’s book of 2014, hands down.”

“An old, old monster in a supposedly safe environment, one familiar to all. A walk in the park will never be the same again.”

“A hit! A brave and brilliant hit! An immediate children’s classic.”

The air is misty, bright and cool, the morning Michael walks to school.

At the boundary of the park he waits, nervously he hesitates.

The day warms up, the sun shines down and Mike walks on, into town.

Gnarly branches, crook and tight, curl around the ghostly light.

Suddenly he freezes, weak at the knees, what is that swimming beneath the trees?

Terrifying, funny, thrilling! This new, beautifully illustrated children’s book is available in paperback and digital versions. The Kindle version includes links to exclusive interactive content.

Hear 7-time Emmy award winner, ABC News correspondent, and currently the host of Primetime: “What Would You Do?”, John Quiñones read “The Shark in the Park” on youtube here…

Enjoy, and remember, it’s just a story.

Christmas Truce

by Aaron Shepard

Christmas Day, 1914

My dear sister Janet,

It is 2:00 in the morning and most of our men are asleep in their dugouts — yet I could not sleep myself before writing to you of the wonderful events of Christmas Eve. In truth, what happened seems almost like a fairy tale, and if I hadn’t been through it myself, I would scarce believe it. Just imagine: While you and the family sang carols before the fire there in London, I did the same with enemy soldiers here on the battlefields of France!

The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of the most extraordinary incidents not only of World War I but of all military history. Providing inspiration for songs, books, plays, and movies, it has endured as an archetypal image of peace. Yet much about the historic event remains shrouded in myth and legend.

In this fictional letter — illustrated in authentic detail by Wendy Edelson — award-winning author Aaron Shepard draws from firsthand accounts of soldiers at the front to portray the truce in its true nature and spirit.

Aaron Shepard’s many books for young people have won honors from the American Library Association, the New York Public Library, the Bank Street College of Education, the American Folklore Society, and the National Council for the Social Studies.

Wendy Edelson has been honored with the Pacific Northwest Book Award, the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award, and the Mom’s Choice Award. Her other illustrated books include Aaron’s “The Baker’s Dozen: A Saint Nicholas Tale.”

“Among the many entries celebrating this event’s centennial, librarians and teachers should welcome this historically accurate telling.” — Kirkus Reviews (Web site), Aug. 11, 2014

My Own TOEIC Verbs-Beta: For Those Under 700 in English and Korean (My Own TOEIC Words Book 2)

by Won-gil Park

{ P R E F A C E}

Every night, I have sent my English study contents as well as my own short words to the members of my cyber space, Raoul Teacher’s English Empire (

) during 2006 – 2009. These words were the ones that I organized scientifically for the members there including a girl student who had cried so much to see me off.

In fact, I, Raoul Teacher, (=Park, Won-gil) have always thought about new ways of teaching English every day like ten years of time is just a day. My pupils that left me including that girl were the biggest motivation of my all efforts.

I want my words, TOEIC vocabularies by myself, to help English learners improve their own English scores such as those of TOEIC, TOEFL, SAT and the like.

The Old Man And The King

by Joe Corso

Royal protocol dictated that the King exit the car last, but as the important man was about to emerge, a hail of gunfire erupted, spraying the royal Hummer. “The Talvanian King watched in shock as, one by one, his car’s occupants fell limp to the ground.” Alone, in a foreign city, he seeks temporary refuge in the Good Burger diner. Here he meets Lom, a crazy old Korean War vet, who misses his old life of danger and intrigue and who embraces the idea of hunting those who are hunting the King. Lom does so by, first, kicking ass and taking names, and second, by teaching the baby-faced King the ways of the street, battlefield style. His written message is clear: “I HEARD YOU WERE LOOKING FOR ME. NOW I’M LOOKING FOR YOU!” This action packed hunt for the assassins begins with the United Nations and takes us from Charlie’s New York City pawn shop, deep into secret underground passageways, into hidden train stations and desolate warehouses, and ultimately to carefully orchestrated deals with jewel thieves and gun runners. Things move along well until the heart-wrenching kidnapping. With the clock ticking against him, Lom must think quickly in order to save the life of the one he loves. Will the old man make it in time? Will the King live? Only time and his survival skills . . . will tell.
