The article recognizes that these traditional approaches don’t work in the modern age as noted by the inclusion of the “21st century” along with the “myth” of the actual comparisons. But the use of the word “myth” isn’t the best description, which is why I would call it marketing approach or as this diagram below depicts as market(ing) orientation (McGraw-Hill Marketing 8th Canadian Edition Chapter 1).
