Sacrifice (The Angel Mountain Saga Book 7)

by Brian John

The Angel Mountain Saga has now accumulated sales of over 70,000. This is Part 7..â?¦

Get your copy now, and enter the enchanting world of Martha Morgan, a VERY imperfect heroine.

This is the darkest and most brutal of all of the stories of the Saga — with the intensity of a Gothic melodrama. But in spite of the terrifying and tragic events recounted by the heroine, compassion and humanity shine through, and the tale has a truly heart-rending conclusion.

In the Wild West of Wales, in the year 1808, a shepherd is ambushed and left in the roadway, more dead than alive, with three stripes carved across his chest. A note, written in his own blood, is pinned to his skin. It reads “For Rhiwallwn. From Gruddnei.” Four sinister men who call themselves surveyors are clearly responsible for this crime and others that follow. It emerges that there is a “campaign of retribution” against selected individuals. Mistress Martha Morgan, a young widow with five children, is at the top of the hit list. As the net tightens around the villains, more is discovered about their backgrounds, their motives and their grotesque methods of working. In a terrifying final confrontation Martha at last faces them, and finds depravity on a scale which she finds almost impossible to deal with.

In this fast-moving tale the key players will be familiar to fans of the Angel Mountain Saga, and other characters who march through the pages of the book include the eccentric Iolo Morgannwg, hot-tempered busybody Charles Hassall, two exotic prostitutes, and a charming and mysterious Irishman called Dominic Cunningham whose life was complicated enough even before he fell in love with Mistress Martha……

This is a story of mystery and intrigue, carrying the reader on a roller-coaster of emotions. It’s a thoroughly good read, and I couldn’t put it down. — Referee’s Review

Beautifully written …… the work of an author who is comfortable with the genre, and on top of his game. — Second Referee’s Review

Read it and be very afraid!

Conspiracy of Angels (The Angel Mountain Saga Book 8)

by Brian John

The Angel Mountain Saga now has accumulated sales of over 70,000. This is Part 8

Get your copy now, and enter the enchanting world of Martha Morgan, a VERY imperfect heroine.

Part adventure, part mystery thriller, this has been described by reviewers as a splendidly imagined tale and as compulsive a read as the other volumes of the saga.

This is a story about rehabilitation following trauma — and also a story about the triumph of love over adversity. The heroine is the incorrigible, impetuous, compassionate and very imperfect Martha Morgan. This tale is set in the year 1810, and follows hot on the heels of the story recounted in “Sacrifice”. An ex-slave is shipwrecked on the shore of Skomar Island, and two strange objects found on his person end up in the possession of Mistress Martha Morgan of Plas Ingli. This leads her to involvement in the anti-slavery movement and into very grave personal danger as her own enemies have to be rescued from a man who has a very sinister mission…..

In this tale there are some new and eccentric characters, including Beau Brummell, General Sir Thomas Picton and the Princess of Ebersdorff, and Martha strays far away from home.

Brian is delighted by the response from readers to his latest book, which brings in new themes and new characters — and which takes a swipe at the reputation of one of the great historical figures of Pembrokeshire.

Each volume in this Saga deals with an episode in the life of the feisty and sensuous heroine Martha Morgan, the Mistress of a small country estate, in the years 1796 – 1855. Mistress Martha is one of the most complex and well-rounded characters in contemporary literature — displaying, as she goes through life, a multitude of conflicting virtues and vices which have endeared her to many thousands of faithful readers.

Review: “Another totally gripping tale from Brian John.He writes with such credibilty that it’s hard to believe that Plas Ingli and its occupants are all fictional. The historical ‘element’ is equally fascinating, and I have been completely convinced each time I read the novels in this amazing saga. It is such a shame that the BBC haven’t got their act together and realised what an enthralling series this would make……. ” (Amelia Davies)

This story (like the other seven in the series) is narrated by a male author, in a diary format, using a female voice. Foolhardy and even dangerous? Yes, but in the unanimous view of female reviewers, spectacularly successful.

A Question of Honor

by Jim Koehler

Retired Law professor and sometime amateur sleuth, Roger Trapp, receives a provocative email at his Denver apartment from Sir Reginald Smythe. The man is an old teaching colleague in England who is on a mission to restore to his family lineage, an RAF pilot who Sir Reginald feels was unfairly “drummed out of the family.” The man died over 50 years earlier in a U2 plane crash in the United States. Sir Reginald is now in need of someone in the U.S. to ascertain the pilot’s activities up until his death. He knows Roger has the integrity, intelligence and persistence to do a thorough investigation and wants to hire him for the job.
Sir Reginald needs Roger’s information for a family history he wants to get published prior to a forth-coming family reunion. In it, he can restore the pilot’s family position. However, his publisher insists that more background about the RAF pilot is needed. He will not publish the document unless either more information is provided, or the man is left out of the history entirely. Sir Reginald is now faced with a tight deadline he might not be able to meet. Roger takes the job and proceeds on what he envisions as an interesting intellectual challenge. However, he is harassed by unknown antagonists whose motives are inspired by events that occurred as long ago as the crash itself. The events include a drug-induced vision and actions of conspiracy theorists and UFO fanatics. Now, his physical courage is also challenged, and he has to decide whether or not to back out of his assignment before things become dangerous. Roger refuses to give up. After all, an old friend is depending on him to help settle a very important questionâ?¦ a question of honor.

The Hellfire Rebellion

by Matthew Kaye

“That pay is rightfully ours,” insisted the miner. “Punishing me won’t change that.”

“Strike.”

While a group of miners fight for their rights, the capital plays host to a rival ruler and the princes vie for superiority in a tournament.
