Of Cabbages And Kings: A Collection of True Short Stories that Celebrate the Good, Bad, Ugly & Funny Things That Make Life Worth Living

by Randa M. Chance

Do you think an experience needs to be big and important to be valuable? What about those small, funny, poignant moments, those that don’t seem to be very significant? Can you actually learn life lessons from those simple things in life?

Randa Chance shares true-life stories that are gut-wrenchingly sad, side-splittingly hilarious, and achingly tender. Laugh out loud with her as she swallows a bobby pin and when she becomes psychotic at the end of her pregnancy. Sigh with her when she meets her remarkable husband. Cry along with her as she realizes that, as a young mother, and the wife of a church-planting pastor husband, there’s no food to feed their kids, nor money to buy any. Each vignette charms the reader with real emotions and you’ll keep turning the pages to read “just one more.”

Randa Chance shows readers from all walks of life that significant moments don’t have to be big and important to truly matter. Sometimes a moment consists of a fully-clothed grandmother executing a cannonball dive into the creek, just to help her family say good-bye with smiles instead of tears. Sometimes it’s about finding the funny in the insensitive, instead of taking offense. Sometimes a moment is about how Christmas can still be special – even after you burn down the house. Randa manages to find those priceless moments while juggling life as a wife, mother, pastor’s wife and a writer.

Readers from all walks of life will be challenged to hold those they love just a little closer, to consciously appreciate not just the big moments but also the little ones, and to find contentment, laughter and beauty even in some of life’s most difficult circumstances.

Turning Points will help discover a NEW whole mind that will shape our children s world, guide your child to discover their promise, identify triggers that cause relationships conflicts, understand your child s specific learning style, strengthen your bond with your child, and have win-win connections unique to your family.

Parenting: The Power of a Do-Over: Strategies for Parents to Strengthen Family Connections, Build Confidence and Character, and Eliminate Regrets

by Shasta Grimes

Parenting: The Power of a Do-Over

How to Strengthen Family Connections, Build Confidence and Character, and Eliminate Regrets.

Do you ever look at your children and struggle with regretful feelings?

Do you wish you could go back and change the way you responded in certain situations?

Are you wondering if you’re being the best parent you can be?

Learn how to not just say you’re sorry when your actions or reactions hurt your child but how to Rewind, Restart and Redo. The strategies listed in this book will help you connect with your child, open lines of communication, help heal old wounds and keep new ones from being created.

We can think about doing it better, or say we will do it better, but until we actually stop and put in to action a “do-over”, chances are you will simply repeat the offensive behavior instead of putting into action a new behavior. I know this because I do this.

Here’s a Preview of What You’ll Learn

  • Yelling and Screaming – This chapter covers strategies to decrease yelling and increase conversation in addition to offering practical do-over scenarios that you can implement with your own family.
  • Time – Ideas for finding time to focus on your child and making up for time that’s already been lost.
  • Praise – Did you know there is a wrong way to praise? Who knew?! Praise is necessary but only proper praise will create positive results. Learn how to praise effectively and how to go back and praise correctly when you find you have missed an opportunity.
  • Consistency – Life is full of inconsistencies and uncertainties but children thrive and depend on stability. This chapter will help you find ways to become more consistent in addition to going back and reestablishing the expectational foundation you want your child to be able to trust and stand firm upon.
  • All of these will have strategies to stay calm and move on as well as tips on how to rewind, restart and redo in an effort to heal old wounds.

    About The Author

I am the mother of 7 kids: 2 unofficially adopted now young adults and 5 in the home. We are still adjusting to being a family of five after an almost 5 year adoption journey from Haiti that finally ended last summer. Our home is a little wild but there’s always a lot of grace both given and received. I don’t claim to have it all figured out but I’m sure trying because I know I’m not the parent I envisioned I would be. I don’t want to live with regrets when my kids are gone that I could have parented, corrected, directed, supported and loved my children better. I’ve written this book as much a reminder for myself as I have to help others become all they dream they can be as a parent and more.

Considering Adoption Disruption:: Prayer Journal, Year One (Considering Adoption Disruption: Prayer Journals Book 1)

    by Debra Hess

    Dear Adoptive Parent,

I never, ever in a million years would have imagined I’d travel this road. I love orphans; I’m passionate about doing all I can to change the lives of the helpless. So I know . . . I understand how you feel when you’ve hit the same wall for the thousandth time and you suddenly realize you don’t have what it takes. You’ve been praying for God to give you the strength and believing in faith that it’ll all work out . . . but then, you realize it isn’t going to. Not only do you not have what it takes to see this through, people are suffering, and are going to suffer more if you don’t stop trying and go get help. And yet, who can you turn to? True friends are few when the situation is this disturbing. Just the thought of giving up a child that you’ve adopted causes waves of shame and makes you want to assume a name and sneak around asking for help in a disguise.

Well, consider me your friend. What you’re about to read is a true story; it’s my prayer journal (year one, of two years). I suspect it’ll help you, so I’m sharing. Most of it comes from a notebook I kept specifically about our adoption woes with Jasmine, on the advice of many bereaved parents who’d gone before us. I changed names and other identifying information because I really don’t wish to hurt Jasmine, or anyone else, by sharing secrets about them. Mother always said, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”

But if I remain silent, my experience cannot help you.

I don’t promise to have the answers you need or want, nor am I sharing my troubles hoping to win you to my side. If you read my journal and think I’ve done everything wrong, and that I’m completely to blame for the difficulties, that’s okay. Perhaps you’ll learn from my mistakes. I pray you’ll gain insight and direction, regardless.
