Divining Divas: 100 Gay Men on Their Muses

Named one of the 2013 Over the Rainbow Project book list, sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association!

Editor Michael Montlack has assembled an anthology of a hundred gay poets–award winners and fresh voices–in thrall with female icons throughout the ages ranging from Gloria Swanson to Mary J, Blige, from Edith Piaf to Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler to Lady Gaga. These are not merely appreciations of the gorgeous and daring but poems that are confessional to bittersweet to witty.

“This is divine news! An anthology packed with ermine and pearls, its divas spike-heeled and coiffed, starlit and ghostly, hovering over the pages. Daring, disarming and charming, I’m in thrall to these gorgeous gay visions, from Gloria Swanson to Mary J. Blige, from Edith Piaf to Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler to Björk. The divas have it, and these poets know how to bring it. So let’s give it up for Gertrude Stein, Lucille Ball and Sappho! And gratitude to Michael Montlack for gathering together with humor and heart, the ageless women of the ages, our most glorious roses.”

In the Shadows of Stars We Dance

by Mark Peltonen

Mark Reino Peltonen was born in 1974 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, otherwise known simply as “The Soo”. He started hitchhiking in his teens after seeing Hippies along the Trans Canada highway in the late 70’s, a sight that left an indelible mark on his psyche.

He received his degree in English from York University in 1998. After graduating he travelled further to Europe and Asia, spending most of that time in Ireland and Japan. He has taken much of the inspiration for these poems from these travels as well as the incredible nature and wonder of Canada and Upper Peninsula Michigan.

He has worked for the Government, been a Waiter, a Labourer, a Librarian and a Fire Ranger; but of all these occupations Writing has been the most endearing and enduring.

These poems were written over the period of 1995 to 2014 and cover such forms as stream of conscious, haiku style, and more conventional stanza structure.

Common themes are Love, Passion, Travel, Nature, the Stars and the inevitable connection woven through all of these â??things’. From the Eternity of Space, to the Tip of the Pen, to the Infinity of your Mind.

What has humanity got?

asked the Sunrise of the Crow

the ability to see and love us,

was the raucous reply

The Seduction of Mia Morozova’s Mind

by Craig Jacobs

This is the tale of an author seducing his muse through the written word. Part verse novel, part anthology, it chronicles the romantic journey from infatuation to love and all of the emotional bumps in between.

You’ll follow the author as he writes of his inspiration from a hot air balloon high above Tahoe, to the sandy beaches of Camboriu, Brazil. Each daily installment builds the urgency of the affair until it finally ends in Russia on Christmas night.

In the digital age of status updates and text messages this book is a contemporary throwback to the age of courtship, when love letters, poems and romance ruled. So set your status to “away” and get swept away in a book affair for an hour or two.
