    When you think of guilt free eating, you probably think it means eating all natural, low calorie, low carb foods right? Well, I have a different definition of guilt free eating. In fact, the guilt free eating I do typically has twice the fat, twice the carbs and twice the calories of so-called guilt free food. It’s guilt free because I choose not to feel guilty after I eat it.

    This book is not about diet discipline. This book it is about self-reward, eating what tastes good and doing it without guilt. It is about eating whatever you want on occasion, spoiling yourself through the ritual pleasure of preparing and feasting on delicious food and loving it, dang it!

    Growing up in the 70’s was a very happy time in my life. “Woah!” I said with wide eyes as my dad brought the Mega Mountain nachos to the table at Downtown Bowl. Ooh and how could I forget the TriplePep Pepperoni from Rico’s Pizza? Thinking back now, I realize that so much of my fondest childhood memories revolved around food. And you know what? I loved it! No Regrets. The food was damn good tasting, and my memories golden. As it turns out, food and fun is good!

    Bullying and self-esteem erosionâ?¦

    But there was a dark side to the food and fun is good lifestyle. Food and fun leads to weight gain, and when you are a kid, weight gain leads to bullying and excommunication from kid society. My food and fun lifestyle slowly transformed my body and formally slotted me into the “fat kid” category. This new classification meant excommunication to the isle nerds, freaks and fatties. Residence in my new category meant getting a new name as well. My short and round stature earned me the nick name “Pollywog”, given to me from the mullet-draped, popped collar jock a-holes that surrounded me. Relationships? Forget it. Not with a name like Pollywog.

    Who’s laughing now?

    At the pivotal age of 18, I had enough. I learned about diet and exercise. I joined a gym and climbed 3.2 million steps on the Original Stairmaster and lost 60 pounds. After years of concealing my identity, my inner frog being beat into dormancy, I emerged from my Pollywog state into a dashing Prince.

    Discovering the discipline/guilt complex

    My extreme self-discipline yielded results. But during this transformation phase from Pollywog to Prince, I manifested an inner “Type A” personality from the inner depths of my psyche that I didn’t even know existed. I realized that there is a lot of emotional pain that comes with extreme diet discipline. I was happy with my results, but the price I paid was very concerning.

    Lessons from a former Pollywog

    Discipline may yield results, but provides very little immediate gratification – especially when it comes to food. In this book, I’m teaching you how to get the joys of delicious flavor while learning to forget the guilt.
