Don’t be afraid. They’re just stories, aren’t they?Sometimes that noise you can hear upstairs is just the old floorboards creaking as they settle down for the night. Sometimes. But there’s no need to worry because, that face you saw at the window was just a reflection.
There’s no one else here. You’re alone. But that’s OK because you’re safe in your bed. And all those things you fear deep down in the dark reaches of your soul… well, they only happen in stories, don’t they?
A Dark Assortment is a collection of seventeen stories; a chocolate box of handmade treats. But beware – beneath each richly decorated shell, there’s a seed of delicious darkness.
These stories with a twist are perfect for fans of Edgar Allan Poe, and if you enjoy books like Ray Bradbury’s “Illustrated Man” and Roald Dahl’s “Skin” then we’ll get along just fine.Oh – before I go, I’ll wish you all Sweet Dreams.

The spookiest treat for Halloween’s right here. 178 pages of dark, twisted & mysterious goings on. -Â Jonathan Ross
Toula Mavridou-Messer has one of the most creative minds I have ever come across. In fact, her imagination knows no bounds! -Â LA Writers Center
Just. WOW. What a unique book! I loved this! This was a horror book with a mystery and a twist! -Â Word Forward
For those who like their humour black, satirical and with a Gothic twist this is a must read. Tongue in cheek all the way, the book is written in a style that satirizes the very language of Victorian, Gothic horror, paying a backhanded ‘homage’ to Dickens, Poe, Stoker and the Grimm brothers with a large dash of Washington Irving’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’ and the epic Beowulf, Grendel’s mother, thrown in. Gruesomely funny! - Sara Salyers
If you enjoy dark, but easy to read mysteries, I definitely recommend Mortal End: A Simmering Pit Of Jiggery Pokery by Toula Mavridou-Messer. This will be a great Halloween read! -Â Ellen P. Lafleche-christian
Mortal End brings together some of the best aspects of Grimm’s Fairy Tales mixed with larger than life characters in a Tim Burton-esq way and adds a dash of sexual content and some great humour all wrapped up in a fantastic writing style. -Â WJ Thompson
This is a fantastic read, Macabre and funny, witty and clever, no long journey should be attempted without it! The writer couples rich and vivid language with a superb plot that keeps you guessing -Â Dominic Wolf
This is crime fiction like no other! Fairy tales for grown ups with just enough humour to see you through the dark. -Â Amanda Goldman
This is Grimm in the best way – it’s a strange and twisted murder mystery. I enjoyed this book immensely. Wonderfully Dickensian names, completely twisted logic, weirdly gorgeous descriptions – it’s a totally bonkers dark fairy tale, with fantastic twists and turns and an unexpected ending. -Â Ally A
A truly delicious dark tale well worth the read. -Â Â Johnny KyriacouÂ
A gothic horror novel that has grabbed the attention of genre fans around the globe, combining true crime with Grimm to provide a fast-paced adult fairytale romp through the darkest recesses of your imagination.

“This was genuinely the best read I’ve had in a long time and I cannot wait for more from Joe Coffin!”
-Alli, Amazon review.
Get ready. Joe Coffin is on his way. And he’s mad as hell.
Joe Coffin is fresh out of jail, but going straight is the last thing on his mind. The sickos who murdered his wife and child are still out there, and he’s going to get revenge.
The problem is, Joe Coffin is in much deeper than he realises, and his wife might not be as dead as he believes.
Violent, gory, profane and explicit, Joe Coffin is for mature readers only.
Interview with the author:
Q – So, what makes the Joe Coffin series special?
A – A few different things, really. I love vampires but I’m not interested in the sparkly romantic types crowding the bookshelves at the moment. In writing Joe Coffin I wanted to go back to the idea that a vampire novel should be full of gory horror, and that the vampires would be nasty and almost indestructible. But I also love British crime movies, and I thought why not pit my vampires against a British gang and throw in a gutsy female journalist as well, with a sprinkling of humour amongst the brutal action.
So yes, the Joe Coffin books are a mix of genres. The other thing to bear in mind is that they are written in episodic format, much like a TV series. That way they remain tightly plotted and fast paced.
Overall, the Joe Coffin series is written to keep you turning the pages – and I’ve made sure there’s never a dull moment.
Q – What’s with this Season One in the title?
A – Again, it’s the TV series format. I love Netflix and Amazon Video, and I binge watch my TV shows now, instead of how I used to watch them, one episode a week. I wanted to reflect that idea in the books, and I hope you will want to binge read all four episodes in each season of Joe Coffin.
Q – What order should I read the books in?
A – You need to start with Season One and work your way through. If you don’t start at the beginning you won’t have a clue what’s happening in the later books, as the story is tightly tied in together and progresses as you read on.
Q – So, why should readers give these books a try?
A – If you like modern horror, or vampire novels, I think you will like this series of books. Even if you’re on the fence about the horror aspect, but enjoy violent crime fiction, I think you may well love these books. And they are lightning fast, with smart dialogue and great characters, and a hero you will love in mob henchman Joe Coffin.
Thanks for reading!

An insatiable need burns inside him that can only be quenched by one thing… her.
Augustus’ people had spent years in talks with the humans, moving toward the day when the Seven, the preternatural races of beings on earth could “come of the darkness” and integrate with society. He had pulled himself away from the peace he’d found on Santuary, his ranch in Texas, to lend his efforts toward the goal. And despite his misgivings, they were mere weeks away from signing an agreement.
Then he saw her. He had to have her, no matter the risk, no matter the cost. Nothing would stop him. Not even her.
Layla felt like she was living a dream. Her paranormal romance about a woman being abducted by a Vampire and the love that developed between them had become a hit. She was being sought after by publishers, film producers and even interviewed on one of the biggest morning news shows in the country.
Life is good. Well, until she passes out in the back seat of a limo after a book signing, and wakes up tied to a bed. Then things aren’t so swell. Turns out life can mirror fiction. Just like the heroine in her book, she’s been abducted.
By a Vampire. And to make matters worse, he’s pure sex in jeans. And he doesn’t intend to let her go.
He might not intend on her leaving, but she’s dead set on it. It’s a battle of wits and wants as passions flare. A contest to see who will emerge the victor and who will end up on their knees.

Esterleen tolerates Linda to keep Doctor Clyde around. But Linda won’t let Roger alone. Their brief affair, which she advertises, upsets everyone. And the murders begin.
Roger is accused of a ghoulish slaying and must prove his innocence. He is further caught up in Valerie’s peril as she becomes entangled in intrigue and commitment.
