When Two Pray: Discover The Power of Praying as Husband and Wife – A Guide for Married Couples

by Kaynee Correoso

Few spouses consistently implement the collaborative prayer design Jesus advised. It is estimated that between 2% and 8% of Christian couples pray together. That translates into an estimated 92% – 98% of Christian couples that don’t come together to pray. Is it any wonder that few couples experience the riches of God’s glory and the full extent of his power in their lives?

Jesus himself extends this invitation and promise, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Mt. 18:19-20)

These words are especially meaningful for married couples because only two are necessary to invite God’s presence and move his hand in a mighty way. Yes! The power of united prayer with a purpose is insuppressible. This power can be unleashed for your life, your marriage, your family and your highest aspirations for the glory of God and the expansion of his kingdom.

This book will:

– Enlighten you about the power of prayer when two agree.

– Encourage you by demonstrating God’s desire for his children to pray and his eagerness to respond.

– Teach you and your spouse how to eliminate the most common obstacles for coming together in prayer.

– Guide you through questions and discussion points to solidify a life of prayer with your spouse.

– Teach you the biblical precursors to answered prayer so you and your spouse may begin experiencing God’s power.

– Teach you the importance of persistence in prayer.

– Explain how to use scripture to effectively pray in alignment with God’s will.

– Provide you with key topical scriptures and biblical promises for praying with your spouse.

Each chapter will encourage and enlighten you with biblical passages so that you may successfully come together in prayer and begin experiencing God’s abundant miracles in your lives.

The Life and Legends of Saint Francis of Assisi

by Father Candide Chalippe

Alongside St. Ignatius, who founded the Jesuits, St. Francis of Assisi is widely regarded as one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic Church due to his work establishing religious Orders that have done an incalculable amount of good and service for societies. Like St. Ignatius, St. Francis also got his start as a soldier who experienced a vision that put him on a more divine path.

St. Francis eventually became a pillar of the Church, both living in poverty to assist those in greatest need and in establishing the Franciscan Order, the Order of Poor Clares, an enclosed order for women, and the Third Order of Brothers and Sisters of Penance. Near the end of his life, he became the first person recorded in history to bear the stigmata, the Passion wounds that Christ suffered in crucifixion, which only added to his ultimate aura and legacy.

“To say that the writings of St. Francis reflect his personality and his spirit is but another way of saying that they are at once formidably mystic and exquisitely human; that they combine great elevation of thought with much picturesqueness of expression. This twofold element, which found its development later on in the prose of mystics like St. Bonaventure and in the verse of poets like Jacopone da Todi, and which has ever been a marked characteristic of Franciscan ascetic literature, leads back to the writings of the Founder as to the humble upper waters of a mighty stream. St. Francis had the soul of an ascetic and the heart of a poet. His unbounded faith had an almost lyric sweetness about it; his deep sense of the spiritual is often clothed with the character of romance. This intimate union of the supernatural and the natural is nowhere more strikingly manifested than in the writings of St. Francis.”

An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith

by St. John Damascene

Saint John of Damascus, also known as St.John Damascene (c. 676 – 4 December 749) was a Syrian Christian monk and priest. A polymath whose fields of interest and contribution included law, theology, philosophy, and music, before being ordained, he served as a Chief Administrator for the Islamic caliphate in Damascus, wrote works expounding the Christian faith, and composed hymns which are still in everyday use in Eastern Christian monasteries throughout the world. The Catholic Church regards him as a Doctor of the Church, often referred to as the Doctor of the Assumption due to his writings on the Assumption of Mary.

St. John Damascene also produced An Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith, an invaluable source of traditional Christian theology widely accepted across the different branches and sects of Christianity. Damascene’s work is in many respects a collection of accepted theology derived mostly from theologians of the 4th and 5th centuries, providing a comprehensive overview of Christian dogma. Damascene supports his writing through logic and quoting Scripture, and An Exact Exposition was extremely influential during the Middle Ages.

The King James Bible

by Henry Savile

The King James Bible needs no formal introduction, being perhaps the most famous and read book in the English speaking world. This most popular version of the Bible came about as an English translation by the Church of England of the Christian Bible begun in 1604 and completed in 1611. First printed by the King’s Printer, Robert Barker, this was the third such official translation into English; the first having been the Great Bible commissioned by the Church of England in the reign of King Henry VIII, and the second having been the Bishop’s Bible of 1568. In January 1604, King James I of England convened the Hampton Court Conference, where a new English version was conceived in response to the perceived problems of the earlier translations as detected by the Puritans, a faction within the Church of England.

James gave the translators instructions intended to guarantee that the new version would conform to the ecclesiology and reflect the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its beliefs about an ordained clergy. The translation was done by 47 scholars, all of whom were members of the Church of England. In common with most other translations of the period, the New Testament was translated from Greek, the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew text, while the Apocrypha were translated from the Greek and Latin.

In the Book of Common Prayer (1662), the text of the Authorized Version replaced the text of the Great Bible – for Epistle and Gospel readings – and as such was authorized by Act of Parliament. By the first half of the 18th century, the Authorized Version was effectively unchallenged as the English translation used in Anglican and other Protestant churches. Over the course of the 18th century, the Authorized Version supplanted the Latin Vulgate as the standard version of scripture for English speaking scholars.

You Are Highly Favored: Reflections from the Nativity to Encourage Your Faith

by Lacy Timpano

In this 25 day Christmas devotional, step past the familiarity of tradition and take a journey that will inspire and encourage your faith. In these pages we’ll unfold the greatest story ever told, one that carries the bold message of God’s great love for us. We may not always feel like God is near, or that his favor is evident in our lives, but in the message of Christmas we’ll find the answer to what every heart is longing to know; that God is near and he is for us. It is time to re-think what we know about favor.

Through the stories of the men and women surrounding Jesus’ birth, we’ll take a fresh look at what it means to have God’s favor. Mary and Joseph were every day people, from an every day town. They were poor and humble, and yet God called them with an outrageous destiny, and they responded to it with faithful and trusting hearts. It is a powerful story of courage and redeeming love; how God became flesh in the most humble of ways, with the most humble of people.

God did not come in wealth and riches, looking to reign with the powerful and perfect. He was after every heart, and he would go to whatever lengths it took to redeem us back to himself. Through lessons from the nativity, look into the lives of Mary, Joseph, Zechariah, Elizabeth, and even Herod. See how they all, when faced with fear, had to choose how they would respond to God’s plan, and trust him through difficulties.

The retelling of Jesus’ birth is so much more than just a story; it is an invitation to encounter God. It was meant to inspire our courage and fill our hearts with hope; to reawaken our wonder at the awe inspiring majesty of God’s plan. Through these daily reflections connect with God’s heart of love afresh this Christmas.

Of Faith and the Creed

by St. Augustine of Hippo

The Christian Church has no shortage of revered figures and saints, but it is difficult to find one that had a more decisive impact on the course of the Church’s history than Augustine of Hippo. Augustine was a bishop of Hippo Regius in Africa, but his works, sermons and writings helped hold the Church together even as the Western Roman Empire was in its death throes, to the extent that every major branch of Christianity recognizes him today. The Catholic Church has venerated him as a saint and a Doctor of the Church, Orthodox Christians also consider him a saint, and Protestants and Calvinists cite him as one of the fathers and inspirations of the Protestant Reformation. In many respects, Augustine has provided the theological bedrock for Christians for nearly 1600 years, and as theologian John Leith noted in 1990, “Augustine, the North African of Berber descent, is today the spiritual father of multitudes who are remote indeed from him racially, politically, and culturally.”

Of Faith and the Creed, in its original form, was a discourse which Augustine, when only a presbyter, was requested to deliver in public by the bishops assembled at the Council of Hippo-Regius, and that it was subsequently issued as a book at the desire of friends. The general assembly of the North African Church, which was thus convened at what is now Bona, in the modern territory of Algiers, took place in the year 393 A.D., and was otherwise one of some historical importance, on account of the determined protest which it emitted against the position elsewhere allowed to Patriarchs in the Church, and against the admittance of any more authoritative or magisterial title to the highest ecclesiastical official than that of simply Bishop of the first Church (primæ sedis episcopus).

The work constitutes an exposition of the several clauses of the so-called Apostles’ Creed. The questions concerning the mutual relations of the three Persons in the Godhead are handled with greatest fullness; in connection with which, especially in the use made of the analogies of Being, Knowledge, and Love, and in the cautions thrown in against certain applications of these and other illustrations taken from things of human experience, we come across sentiments which are also repeated in the City of God, the books on the Trinity, and others of his doctrinal writings.

The Lives of the Popes Vol. I: The Popes Under the Lombard Rule

by Horace Mann

Horace Mann was one of the most crucial 19th century historians thanks to his multi-volume Lives of the Popes, an incredibly expansive chronological history of each of the popes of the Middle Ages.   The Lives of the Popes Vol. I: The Popes Under the Lombard Rule is a chronology of the popes from St. Gregory I in 590 until Leo III in 795 A.D.

On the Grace of Christ and on Original Sin

On the Grace of Christ and on Original Sin sets forth St. Augustine’s beliefs on original sin. In particular, he believed that the grace of Christ was indispensable to human freedom, and he framed the concepts of original sin. Augustine’s concept of original sin was expounded in his works against the Pelagians. However, St. Thomas Aquinas took much of Augustine’s theology while creating his own unique synthesis of Greek and Christian thought after the widespread rediscovery of the work of Aristotle. Augustine’s doctrine of efficacious grace found eloquent expression in the works of Bernard of Clairvaux; also Reformation theologians such as Martin Luther and John Calvin would look back to him as their inspiration.
