Trying To Avoid Cars

by Jacqui Brown

“OMG! This is one of the best books I’ve read so far! I’ve been in this story with Beau all the way. Thanks for letting me enjoy the ride!” Rebecca A

“I could not put this book down!! I laughed, I cried. Can’t wait to read the sequel so I can find out how the story ends!” Lucille M

“Brown has really done it this time. If she were actually a dog, I’d adopt her without a second thought! Beau’s story really comes to life in this amazing book!” Cynthia P

My world was so perfect in the beginning. I was living my life as every dog should – having its day! I had it all! I was living the American dream! I had an incredible home, lot’s of toys, great food and treats (my all time favorite by the way). I also had a boy who loved and cherished me as much as I did him. We completed each other in every way, but then something horrible happened and my perfect world collapsed like a house of cards. Everything I knew about feeling loved and secure went out the window in the blink of an eye and there was nothing I could do to stop this train wreck!

My name is Beau. No last name, no middle name, just plain old Beau. I’m one of those dogs who believes that no matter how bad life gets, I cannot lay down and die when all seems lost. Nope! My true purpose is to belong somewhere and to belong to someone who will treat me the way I always expected to be treated. I have to keep the faith that one day, no matter how crazy my journey is, my life will be perfect again. I need to love someone because that’s the whole purpose of why I was created in the first place.

I am, after all, Man’s Best Friend!

Mighty Chief Chappose Picks Berries (Sketches from the Spanish Mustang Book 3)

by Benjamin X. Wretlind

Dan shook a memory from his jarred head. Iron Horse. He replayed the man’s voice, the inflection, the words. It was all familiar, even after two years out of the big house and on parole, the voice was familiar . . . chilling. Synapses connected, neurons engaged, electric impulses flashed across Dan’s brain, coalescing into a twisted vision of a thickset man festooned with Aryan tattoos across his chest and arms, a scowl that never failed to reveal yellowed teeth, a hideous scar from a burn that covered half a shaved head. The twisted vision of the man resolved into a yard bounded by a tall fence and concertina wire, by guards with their backs turned, by unfocused figures jeering and taunting and yelling and forming a ring of no escape.
— From Mighty Chief Chappose Picks Berries

Dan Chappose is a stereotype who doesn’t want to be one. He’s an outcast living in a world he didn’t create, a world taken from his ancestors. But Dan isn’t alone with that feeling. There are others who feel it, too–dead or not. And they want revenge for the sins of the past.

What are the Sketches from the Spanish Mustang?Mighty Chief Chappose Picks Berries was the third released novella in the Sketches from the Spanish Mustang series. Combining elements of horror, thrillers, family dramas and fantasy, each novella in the series has been combined into a novel-length work, with each story woven together by a final narrative: that of an artist, her sketchpad and a rather unique ability.

The Rebirth of Veronica Draper (Sketches from the Spanish Mustang Book 2)

by Benjamin X. Wretlind

“A win,” Betty said, “as your father would say, is not a loss.”

Veronica let a small smile creep to the edges of her lips. “He was profound.”

Betty let out a snort then looked at Veronica’s machine. She pointed at the wheels. “That, daughter, is a win.”

Veronica let her gaze go from her mother to her machine. The three black bars didn’t portray “win” to her in the same way that her mother suggested. They looked more like three black marks, three strikes against her for even thinking a trip to the casino with her mother would be a positive thing. It had been three weeks since they buried Dad in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, three weeks since her own daughter, Amber, had told her of her “problem,” three weeks since she heard from the courts that the judge had postponed the child custody trial once again.

Three weeks.

Three black marks.

Three bars.

–From The Rebirth of Veronica Draper

Veronica Draper has a problem. Three problems, actually: her mother, her daughter and herself. Somewhere lost in that triad is a way to dig herself out of the mess she’s in and find peace. But where can peace be found in a town struggling to cope with avarice, greed and sloth? How, in death, is there life?

What are the Sketches from the Spanish Mustang? The Rebirth of Veronica Draper was the second released novella in the Sketches from the Spanish Mustang series. Combining elements of horror, thrillers, family dramas and fantasy, each novella in the series has been combined into a novel-length work, with each story woven together by a final narrative: that of an artist, her sketchpad and a rather unique ability.

The Lotus Café: Une Histoire de Dean et Fara à Londres: A Play in English and French

by Patricia J. Woods

The Lotus Café is a story of how love was meant to be: naïve, innocent, and full-hearted. East meets West and West meets East in this story. Dean (دÙ?Ù? or “Din”) is a British francophone man originally from Lebanon; Fara is a woman from the American south. They carry on most of their relationship in French, presenting both the linguistic struggle of an inter-cultural romance, and that over space and time. The French is fairly simple (for most people, high school French will be enough), although much of it is presented in poetic dialogue. It is the French of one non-native speaker struggling to express herself, and one fluent speaker of a dialect fairly distant from the Parisian center. In literary terms, the story falls within the Romantic tradition. It is most appropriate for an adult audience, although only by poetic allusion.

“An exceptional writer with an extraordinarily fine mind. … His novels are always good with crackling dialogue. Read him.”Luke Rhinehart, bestselling author of The Dice Man

Also make sure you read Godwin’s SAVAGE HIGHWAY for the best in mystery noir.

“The road novel from hell, a scarifying, terrifying tour of a nether world that Godwin convinces us is right beneath our feet, a surrealist inferno that makes Dante’s version look like a Rotary breakfast. By no means for the fainthearted, SAVAGE HIGHWAY has one lesson for any readers who plan a visit to the American Southwest: take the train.”–Castle Freeman Jr., author of THE DEVIL IN THE VALLEY,/b>
