Other People’s Bodies

by Alex Harrier

AN ELECTION-YEAR NOVELLA

Former Secretary of State Willowy Wither has a problem with her burning presidential ambitions – the electorate can’t stand her. Undeterred, she acquires cutting-edge Silicon Valley tech that gives her the ability to transfer her consciousness to other bodies, as well as to grow a blank, empty human form. The first part of her plan goes perfectly when the blandly inoffensive vat-grown Vessel is elected president – but billionaire real estate developer and businessman Larry Lumper interferes with part two, when he gets his hands on the consciousness-jumping tech and makes a play to grab the mindless shell first.

A panicked premature jump by Wither sparks chaos that leaves both Wither and Lumper in new bodies, far from anyone they know and even farther from the presidential prize.

And then the race begins.

Raping the Gods: A Tale of Sex and Madness

by Brian Whitney

Do you like plain vanilla sex, sobriety, and a sense of normalcy? Then this book isn’t for you.

In the tradition of Naked Lunch, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas and Catch 22, comes a bizarre black comedy about power trips, insanity, and the dark side of sex.

Brian Whitney – a dissolute, dead broke, alcoholic writer in Portland, Maine – is hired to ghostwrite the memoirs of Dylan, a deranged, fantastically wealthy sex addict, who lives in Samoa with his two female sex slaves. Dylan’s had a profound spiritual awakening during a vision quest he went on with a local tribe. He thinks he met God. Actually, he thinks he met God and had sex with Him.

Raped Him, in fact.

Working with Dylan is the job Whitney’s been waiting for. He can hardly wait to get started. There’s only one catch.

Well, two catches.

One is that Whitney must travel to Samoa, to hear Dylan’s stories, to live as Dylan does, drunk and high for days on end, with his own personal sex slave, so he can understand the world how Dylan sees it.

Two is he must bring with him a photograph of an aging former porn star, nude, passed out, and wearing a moose hat.

Whitney can get the photograph. But can he really live as Dylan does? Can he bring himself to take possession of another person, a slave so abject she will carry out every command, no matter how humiliating? What follows is a strange journey into the dark heart of man, in particular one man who lives as an all-powerful god upon the earth.

“Brian Whitney’s first novel is weird, surreal, and at times so laugh-out-loud funny that you will cough up your breakfast. Imagine if Hunter Thompson and William S. Burroughs went upriver in a Navy patrol boat to visit Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now. The result would be a lot like Raping the Gods.”

-Patrick Quinlan, bestselling author of Sexbot, Smoked, and All Those Moments

About the Author

Brian Whitney has been a counselor, a landscaper, and a case worker at a homeless shelter. His interests include ruminating, perseverating and hanging out in bad places. If you have a Great Dane he will like you immediately.

His writing has appeared in the Huffington Post, Business Insider, Substance.com, TheFix.com, and many other places. In addition to Raping the Gods, he is the author of 37 Stories About 37 Women and Am I Pleasing You? He is also the co-author of memoirs with legendary porn stars Porsche Lynn and Rebecca Lord.

The Club: Misadventures in a Motorcycle Patch Club

by Jayne Hecate

This is the sadly lost scripts for the radio play of the club that was never broadcast on internet radio. The Club are a group of dysfunctional bikers who hang out in a sentient club house and drink in the Devil’s pub. Join them as they go on rides, argue among themselves, cross into other realities and plan their rally. The idea of the club was that it was to be recorded and broadcast on a biker radio station, but sadly due to the cost of hiring actors, creating special effects and supplying lager, it never happened. So enjoy this strange and unusual gem for what it is, an unfinished project to spread the bizarre around the universe.

There Are Sneetches In My Breeches: And Other Parodies

by Christamar Varicella

There Are Sneetches In My Breeches combines silly humor and cutting satire to parody books and authors. Think of the Onion or Weird Al Yankovic, but instead of spoofing the news or popular music, this book takes on the world of literature and mainstream fiction.

Under the guise of three quirky readers–Al Butterman, Sally Putterman, and Purvis McGrew–the real author, Christamar Varicella, sends amusing fan letters to popular authors and issues reviews of books that may not exist, but it sure would be funny if they did.

Sally Putterman, for example, writes an open letter to Twilight author Stephanie Meyer in which she expresses her longing to meet a 104-year-old vampire high school student named Jedward, while Purvis McGrew checks in with Tom Wolfe on the death of literary fiction and to talk about the time Wolfe, John Irving, and John Updike settled their feud “Greco-Roman style” on a wrestling mat in Irving’s basement.

Meanwhile Al Butterman writes an angry review of The Supreme Bean, a book purportedly written to rank beans in order of goodness, and which includes such infuriating passages as the ones quoted below:

“#291 The Chili Bean

The Chili Bean is a really good bean. The Chili Bean originally comes from some country in South America, like maybe Mexico. It tastes okay and is particularly good in certain kinds of soup. Example: Celery Soup.

#290 The Garbanzo Bean

I like the Garbanzo Bean because it reminds me of that purple muppet, Garbanzo the Great. He’s so funny. I would have rated it higher but I never understood Garbanzo’s fascination with chickens. To each his own, I suppose.

#289 The Black Bean

The Black Bean is a great bean. No doubt about it. Some of the best beans I’ve ever tasted were black. Notice I ranked this bean higher than the White Bean (#675). This has nothing to do with race. Objectively speaking, the Black Bean is better.

#288 The Navy Bean

One of the most patriotic actions a bean can take is joining the Navy.”

Sprinkled between dozens of short humor pieces are two full novellas: “The Oiliest Secret” turns the romance genre on its head, while the horror parody “Dinosaur Ghost” answers the question, “What would happen if dinosaurs came back from extinction and started eating republicans?”

Sneetches takes on writers as diverse as JK Rowling, Ayn Rand, and David Foster Wallace and parodies every genre from Science Fiction/Fantasy (“The Grobisher”), Erotica (“50 Shades of Sex”) to poetry (“An Ode to my Underwear.”) This may very well be the most sophisticated book you’ll ever read in your bathroom.
