The US Marines were there, on Lake Champlain, fighting valiantly aboard Benedict Arnold’s Navy. An integral part of that navy carved from the American wilderness, these frontier marines slowed the advance of the British Army from Canada, stalling the drive that would have split the fledgling states assunder, end the hopes of the patriots for their new nation.

Here is an excerpt from the story:

Cushing managed to arrest his momentum just before tumbling into the back of the Oneida. Resting his hand on his companion’s back, he too crouched and knelt beside him. Joe wiped the sweat from his eyes and brow with the sleeve of his left forearm and followed Soars With Eagle’s eyes. About half a cable ahead, he could just make out some Redcoats moving through the trees with a train of some sort.

“White Chief wait,” Soars With Eagle commanded tersely and then vanished. . . .
