by George Harris
There are many excellent books on the Reformation, but most of them are either long or very long. In this lecture the most important points are summed up in ten thousand words. These are lectures for busy people. This also makes them excellent revision material.
The lecture begins by outlining the ideas of the Catholic Church as they were in 1500. Then you will find the ideas of Luther and Calvin explained, and also the cultural and political contexts which allowed their ideas to take hold in many places. The stories of how and why the Reformation succeeded in some parts of Europe and failed in others are also briefly told.
A short bibliography suggests what you might read next if you want to learn more.
