Epidural Anesthesia, The Procedure The You Might Have To Have

by Alika Gonters

Epidural Anesthesia during Childbirth

How does the epidural work?
The epidural provides permanent relief at the bottom of the body and at the same time allows you to remain fully aware. This type of anesthesia decreases sensations but does not completely block them.

Epidural anesthesia is administered through a catheter, a very thin, flexible, hollow tube that is inserted into the epidural space, which is just outside the membrane surrounding the spine and spinal fluid. Epidural is the most widely used method in the United States to relieve pain during childbirth.

How is the procedure?
For the catheter to be inserted, you must put your side on the bed in a fetal position, or sit on the edge while the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthesiologist cleans your back, injects the area with anesthesia and carefully inserts the needle into the lower back. (It may seem painful, but for most women, it is not).

The Thomson Ecology Handbook: A practical guide to wildlife legislation for project managers

by Thomson Ecology

The world’s biodiversity is highly valued but is also highly threatened by various types of human activity. As a consequence, statutory measures are in place to protect habitats and wildlife. These measures range from global to local, and give protection to whole ecosystems or single species. Because there are now legal obligations in place for proposed developments to enhance the biodiversity of the site, and many species are protected by law, it is essential that project managers understand the importance of considering ecology early on in a project. Failure to address these issues can lead to expensive and lengthy project delays. The Thomson Ecology Handbook provides a general overview of current wildlife legislation, guidance and practical techniques, and is aimed at helping project managers understand and plan for ecology. The book describes in simple terms, essential advice about the law on ecology in relation to construction and development. The book also offers practical advice on protected species, helping the project manager to understand more about what ecological surveys and mitigation may be needed. The book can be referred to on site or in meetings and makes sense of what could be seen as a complicated and unknown area for many project managers and people working in construction and development. The book describes wildlife law (planning law, animal welfare law, and case law), planning policy and guidance, protected sites, species and habitats, surveys for each species, mitigation and biodiversity enhancement, and practical techniques for each species, including bats, badgers and great crested newts. You don’t need to read it cover to cover, just go straight to the section which you need help with – when you need to.

Ovarian Cancer (What You Need To Know)

by Baker T.

All women are at risk for ovarian cancer, but older women are more likely to get the disease than younger women. About 90% of women who get ovarian cancer are older than 40 years of age, with the greatest number of cases occurring in women aged 60 years or older.
Each year, about 20,000 women in the United States get ovarian cancer. Among women in the United States, ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer death, after lung and bronchus, breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system, but it accounts for only about 3% of all cancers in women.
