She (April) is warned by ‘Travis’, who resides inside her head, to trust no-one, not even the Professor, her ‘Pa’. April is also under the strict guardianship of Li-Ming, her ‘educator’.

When transported across America in a specially adapted RV (the CatV), they meet Jack, who befriends April and Li-Ming, appearing when they are in trouble. The journey allows April to discover more about herself, and of other people.

Shadowing her are government agents. Also following are the Chinese, who want to abduct her, but are constantly thwarted by mishaps and circumstance, until they get their chance by Lake Erie. The U.S. military, however, wants her killed.

Why?

When arriving at the destination in Maryland, she finds out who she truly is, and of her previous life/lives. She has to use the skills and the special abilities attained if she is to survive.

This novel can be described as a book full of facts into which is woven a fabric of fiction or alternatively a work of fiction that is studded with fact.

Traits of Darkness: An Epic Fantasy (Gems of Paradise: Book One)

by Stanley Gray

An ailing king on the small island of Norteras besieged by threats must fight to save not only the land he loves, but also himself and his legacy, from destruction at the hands of his cruel son. Amidst assassinations and intrigue, prophecies of a messianic dragon have united the religious orders for the first time in thousands of harvests in opposition to the throne. As the stakes grow higher and the odds become increasingly more bleak, a Halfling dragon hunter emerges to lend the king a lifeline. But, this aid comes with a price: the king must help find this elusive dragon.
Complicating matters is the fact that the hunted is no ordinary dragon. He is, in fact, one of the last of the remaining golds, and he has fled his ancestral homelands for the sake of his son. Disguised as humans, the dragon, as well as his wife and wyrm, live as a humble mining family in a remote region of Norteras, adjacent to the mountains.
As the king begins a purge, seeing enemies in every shadow, the last of the golds grows weary of the constant threat of raids from the monsters hiding by the alpine passes, emerging irregularly to terrorize the villages. Teaming up with a raven and a crude foreigner, the dragon must fight as a human to save his family.
Will the king save Norteras? Will the king become the tyrant he believed his son to be? Will the dragon save his family, or be discovered by the powerful forces moving against it under cover of darkness?
