Technology Landscape for a Digital India

by AMIT AHLAWAT

Digital India is a program to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The focus is on making technology central to enabling change.
The program obtains guidance from specific core areas and has the following vision areas:
oDigital Infrastructure as a Utility to Every Citizen: This could include digital facilities for citizens such as free Wi-Fi, self-service kiosks, digitization and computerization of all the G2C processes such as dissemination of subsidies and generation of citizen documents and accounts.
oGovernance & Services on Demand: Digitization of the G2G and G2B processes are covered under this vision area. Examples are the Union Budgeting process, Income Tax collections, Court Trials and Dissemination of Benefit Schemes and Education to name a few.
oDigital Empowerment of Citizens: This vision area would involve making citizens aware and engaging them through online portals (such as mygov.in) in a widespread manner. This would empower citizens through a participative approach in making governance effective.

Smart Cities Mission: Aligning Right Technology The Smart Way

by AMIT AHLAWAT

Smart City and Smart Nation projects are being heard of across the Asia-Pacific countries such as India and Singapore. The vision that these projects carry and the stakes put on these projects reflect the hopes and aspirations of millions of citizens of these respective cities and countries.
In the approach to the Smart Cities Mission, the objective is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of â??Smart’ Solutions. The focus is on sustainable and inclusive development and the idea is to look at compact areas, create a replicable model which will act like a light house to other aspiring cities.
The approach, though similar in principle, has different implications across different regions.

by James Paris

What Is Hot Bed Gardening All About?
Growing vegetables out of season using Hot Beds is nothing new, in fact it is a gardening technique that goes back many centuries in some cultures. It had a resurgence at the beginning of the 20th century when the French gardeners took hold off and perfected the idea, and as a result exported massive amounts of early fresh vegetables to the UK in particular.

With the todays growing interest in all things organic, and the push for fresh vegetables year-round, this Hot Bed gardening technique has again piqued the interest of vegetable growers, healthy eating, and self-sufficiency enthusiasts.

By using proven age-old techniques mingled with modern intensive gardening methods, it is now possible to grow many vegetables all year round – even in the cold northern climates!

In this book you will learn..
What Hot Bed gardening is all about. Where did the idea come from and ‘The Fall & Rise of Hot Bed Gardening’ to the place today where it is once more in demand.

How to create your own Hot Bed. These can be created traditionally using manure, or rotting vegetation (organic beds). Alternatively electricity, hot water and hot air. Can all be utilised to facilitate the process and ‘force on’ your vegetables.

How to maximise your intensive gardening production using Hot Beds in conjunction with Cold-Frames, Raised Beds or even Straw Bales, to get the best production out of your Hot Bed garden.

How to plant out your HBG to maximise production throughout the year, and not just in the early colder seasons.
