Operation Lir: A Sands of Time Adventure (The Sands of Time Book 1)

by Paul O’ Brien

Many centuries ago, long before Christianity came to Ireland, a legendary group of warriors protected the island and its people from foreign and domestic threats.
The Fianna as they were known, were revered and respected by friend and foe alike. This small, semi-independent unit of elite warriors are recorded in ancient Gaelic mythology in a series of stories called the Fenian Cycle. The group was commanded by Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn Mac Cool), a legendary warrior of great intellect and physical strength.

While some believe that the stories of Finn and his men were nothing more than folk tales, others believe that such an elite unit did exist. Throughout history, the Irish people have drawn inspiration from the stories of Finn and his warriors. Their loyalty to their cause and one another has, through the centuries, inspired generations, that freedom from tyranny, both domestic and foreign, is worth fighting for.
In the early 1970s, countries throughout the world began recruiting and training elite teams of military personnel to combat the increasing threat of international terrorism.
When it is required, these units may operate outside any official military or intelligence organisation. These Teams would take on assignments that no one could officially sanction, either because the risk of failure was too great, or because the missions were too sensitive in nature. In many cases, missions have been kept secret for national security reasons. Who they are and what they do also remain shrouded in secrecy.

In Ireland too, a specialist unit was created;
Officially designated â??Sciathan Fianóglach an Airm’, which when translated is â??The Army Ranger Wing'(ARW), with the Fianóglach linking the present day Ã?glaigh na hÃ?ireann, the Defence Forces, to the traditions of the elite and legendary Irish warriors of the â??Na Fianna’ – or Band of Warriors.

L’angelo di pietra (Italian Edition)

by Andrea Marrone
