Marana, Arizona (Discover Marana)

by Michael A. Estrada

Ever-changing Marana has been around for centuries!

Our Town’s history goes back much further than its 1977 incorporation. Archaeologists have discovered evidence of more than 4,000 years of human occupation in what is now known as Marana. Native Americans, European settlers and some of the earliest Americans lived in or passed through Southern Arizona. When the railroad put the community on the map in the 1800s, it gained a name: Marana, meaning thicket. These days, Marana is synonymous with quality of life in the Sonoran Desert. Actually, it’s been that way for thousands of years.

Enjoy this Microguideâ?¢ to Marana, Arizona with a spotlight on places to stay, dine, drink, shop, and explore!
