London Neighbourhood Walks: Deptford

by Rachel Hand

Are you planning to visit Deptford? Conveniently located for transport links, Deptford makes an interesting day trip off the usual tourist trail. This ebook will be your guide as you explore the area on foot. You will see the churches, statues, striking architecture, and a lovely stretch along the River Thames and Deptford Creek. Walk along residential streets, browse the market and visit a nature park.

This ebook has been written for anyone wishing to explore this fascinating neighbourhood. Perhaps you’re visiting London for the first time, or maybe you’re a born and bred Londoner exploring a new area. Are you thinking of moving house and want to see what Deptford has to offer? Or revisiting a place from your past? Whatever the case, we hope you enjoy London Neighbourhood Walks: Deptford.

Follow the circular walk in this ebook or join in anywhere along the route. We do not tell you how many miles you’ll walk or how long it will take you to reach the end. We want the walk to be suitable for all ages. Your pace will be determined by yourselves rather than by the walk’s route. This isn’t a trek, but rather a guide to wandering.

The book provides detailed directions for the circular walking route alongside descriptions of what you will see along the way. Included on the route are the following places of interest:

– Deptford Railway Station
– Deptford Market
– St. Paul’s Church
– Twinkle Park
– Thames Path
– Peter the Great Statue
– Deptford Creek Swing Bridge
– Sue Godfrey Nature Park
– Albany Theatre
– Margaret McMillan Park

This ebook has useful features which make it more convenient than using a website or a paper book.

– Once you’ve downloaded the ebook to your device you do not need to be online to use it. We recommend ensuring that you have downloaded the full book on wi-fi before you leave home.

– If you would like to begin the walk at a different place along the route, go to the Index and find the street name or place of interest closest to you. Selecting this will take you straight to the relevant page in the guide, and you can begin from there.

Get to know Deptford better with London Neighbourhood Walks: Deptford.

My Secret Africa

by Aaron Kirchhoff

When I started my travel blog in 2014, my intent was to share my stories from my many exploits abroad. Writing has turned into one of my favorite things and a form or self expression I enjoy everyday.

This book, My Secret Africa, is a collection of blogs, telling the story of how I came to intern for a wildlife conservation and community development ngo in Kenya, 2011. This incredible 6 month experience in Africa changed my life in so many ways. From working in the jungles with Colobus monkeys and hornbills, to camping near Mt. Kilimanjaro and swimming with dolphins in the Indian Ocean- or how getting sick and spending over three weeks in the hospital forced me to revise my perspective in life. My struggles, heartache, triumphs and crazy adventures are all here. This book is for anyone looking for a good story about what its like to volunteer abroad in Kenya while gaining an introspective look into growing a self identity.

My hope is that this book will entertain readers- make them laugh, cry and illustrate life volunteering on the Kenyan coast.

LADAKH | A Journey through Snow, Sand and Stone Book II

by David Riley

Renowned for its remote mountain beauty, Ladakh is a region in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the Great Himalayan ranges in the South. It is one of the most sparsely populated as well as the largest regions in Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from the marvellous misty mountains and the rocky ranges, Ladakh is known for its unique culture and history, closely related to that of Tibet.

Having a vast array of Stupas, Monasteries and Buddhist temples; the roadways and towns in Ladakh are also laden with Prayer flags all over. From the high mountain passes to the Hill-top Gompas; from important tourist destinations, to the steel-truss bridges over the rivers; these prayer flags fluttering in the winds of Ladakh, add a bit of colour as well as spiritual good-luck to the entire area. Apart from these, you can also find prayer wheels spread across the town which can be constantly seen given a spun (clockwise) by the local residents and passers-by, for a little bit of extra Tibetan culture and good-luck prayer.

On one side are the local residents of Ladakh which are spread roughly halfway between the Shia Muslims and the Tibetan Buddhists. On the other side are the tourists that visit this incredible place, who are an equally important part of Ladakh. Tourists were one of the main reasons for the requirement of roads in Ladakh (the other one being the Indian Army!) The entire roadstretch of Ladakh can be seen laden with predominantly two types of vehicles: one, the army trucks; and two, the bikes and รข??Royal Enfields’ of countless travellers visiting this enchanted land.

This book takes a photographic tour of some of the most picturesque landscapes and structures in Ladakh, and tries to encapture it in limited frames of the camera. It tries to capture a week long journey through different parts of Ladakh, exploring the beauty of the landscape, the weather and the built forms that sparsely cropped up every once and again. This series of 2 books on Ladakh, is amongst the first of many such photographic journeys through the vast beautiful lands of India; and Ladakh definitely forms the best place to start such an incredible journey, being one of the most picturesque places in India.
