Hunting the Iron Wolf: The Capture of Germany’s U-boats

by Christopher Willett

“The only thing that ever really frightened me during the war was the U-boat peril.” -Winston Churchill

In 1939, the first opening salvos of the war in the Atlantic Ocean were launched. Merchant ships were under constant threat from the German U-boats. The war in the Atlantic against the U-boats was always a game of chess. Both sides were constantly trading pieces, developing new strategies, and implementing new technologies.

“Hunting the Iron Wolf” tells the story of the thrilling capture of three German U-boats by the Allies: U-110, U-570, and U-505.

The Wars of the Roses: A Captivating Guide to the English Civil Wars That Brought down the Plantagenet Dynasty and Put the Tudors on the Throne

The Wars of the Roses were a complex set of battles, skirmishes, and kidnappings during the 15th century in England. They had their roots in the nearby Civil War of France, which greatly influenced English politics for years to come. Though there is no one universally-accepted start or end date for these wars, the major events throughout the wars occurred between 1455 and 1485.

The central reason for the Wars of the Roses, otherwise referred to as the 15th century English Civil War, was a tug-of-war between two families for the throne of England. Though both families were in fact closely related, they had split half a century earlier. Instead of one unified Plantagenet family, the cousins became Lancasters and Yorks. While the Lancasters remained on the throne, the Yorks were overlooked in the succession of kings. The Yorks became jealous, given their equal relation to England’s ancient monarchy, and when the Plantagenet-Lancaster dynasty appeared tragically weakened by the succession of Henry VI, the royal cousins took the opportunity to demand a new ruler.

In The Wars of the Roses: A Captivating Guide to the English Civil Wars That Brought down the Plantagenet Dynasty and Put the Tudors on the Throne, you will discover topics such as

If you want to explore the shocking history of the Native Americans then keep reading…

“History is written by the victors,” said the victor Winston Churchill. But does that compromise the truth of what really happened?

Propaganda has always played a crucial role in turning tides and swaying opinion, and in few places is that more pronounced than in the wholesale slaughter of the native peoples in both North and South America.

When some of the people of European descent could not get what they wanted from the Native Americans, they would demonize or dehumanize them so that the American people would clamor for government intervention. This is, for example, evident by analyzing Andrew Jackson’s speech to Congress on Indian removal where he would refer to the Native Americans as savages.

In this new captivating history book, you will discover the shocking and controversial history of the Native Americans.

Rules of the House: Family Law and Domestic Disputes in Colonial Korea (Global Korea Book 2)

by Sungyun Lim

At publication date, a free ebook version of this title will be available through Luminos, University of California Press’s Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more.

Rules of the House offers a dynamic revisionist account of the Japanese colonial rule of Korea (1910-1945) by examining the roles of women in the civil courts. Challenging the dominant view that women were victimized by the Japanese family laws and its patriarchal biases, Sungyun Lim argues that Korean women had to struggle equally against Korean patriarchal interests. Moreover, women were not passive victims; instead, they proactively struggled to expand their rights by participating in the Japanese colonial legal system. In turn, the Japanese doctrine of promoting progressive legal rights would prove advantageous to them. Following female plaintiffs and their civil disputes from the precolonial Choson dynasty through colonial times and into postcolonial reforms, this book presents a new and groundbreaking story about Korean women’s legal struggles, revealing their surprising collaborative relationship with the colonial state.
