Este libro intenta explicar un conjunto de tecnologías destinadas a casos quirúrgicos
complejos. La Cirugía Asistida por Computadora (CAS, del inglés ComputerAssistedSurgery) es
un conjunto de herramientas (planificación virtual pre-operatoria, navegación virtual
intraoperatoria, impresión 3D, robotica, etc.) cuyo fin determinado es darle previsibilidad al
cirujano ante casos donde la orientación anatómica sea crucial ya sea porque la patología
se encuentra en lugares cercanos a estructuras nobles (articulaciones, venas, arterias,
nervios) o porque la anatomía se encuentra modificada por patologías congénitas o
adquiridas. El concepto de CAS representa un área dedicada a todo profesional de la salud,
no solo de especialidades médicas sino también ingenieriles y de diseño industrial. De esta
manera, nos ubicamos en un marco definido por la interdisciplina, en donde los médicos se
involucran en conocimientos de ingeniería y diseño, mientras que ingenieros y diseñadores
se involucran en problemáticas técnico-quirúrgicas para ayudar a resolver un mismo
problema desde otro enfoque. CAS es un área transversal que atraviesa todas las
especialidades quirúrgicas y en ciertas situaciones se transforma en un foro
multidisciplinario para el intercambio de conocimientos. Es a la vez un área disruptiva, ya
que permite que un conjunto de profesionales tome una decisión que quede embebida en un
escenario de simulación y luego sea ejecutada por el mismo u otro grupo de profesionales.
Los contenidos del libro son un breve repaso de CAS en nuestros 12 años de
experiencia en la materia y pretenden dar un concepto general de las herramientas basados
en ejemplos reales.
