FIGHT FOR US WITH SUS

by Bijon Behari Sarma

Scripts, the writing signs for the sounds of letters of various languages have come into being not through a scientific, but in a long trial and error method. The ancient people used to call or know various animals and birds by the sounds they created. Later they drew their figures, where the figures stood for the sound or name of the animal. Similar things happened with various actions also. These figures later turned to words. After the number of words became unmanageable, the experts endeavored to find out the basic sounds within the words. The basic sounds came to be known as Consonants letters and their modifiers as Vowel letters or signs. The signs for the letters and signs were picked up from the signs previously used for the words. Even though various languages were supposed to have their independfent scripts, some languages accepted common signs for convenience.

It is seen that the scripts came into being not from careful design, but by accident. Naturally, one of the oldest endeavors of the language experts was to use â??a common and well designed set of scripts’ for all languages. This common script is known as United Script, abbreviated by US. Whereas Phags Pa is known to be the oldest US, SUS, invented in 2009 is the latest of this type. It is obvious that if designed intelligently, the US may turn to be a blessing for this world. The irony is, even if an efficient United Script is invented, it has no chance to prosper unless it is capable of making fat profit for the businessmen.

However, if any US is proved to be beneficial for the common people, and not profitable for the businessmen, the only way left before the common people is to fight for achieving the goal. This book is a question whether SUS can be an efficient tool for them to initiate and continue this fight.
