A Christmas Carol

by Charles Dickens

In his “Ghostly little book,” Charles Dickens invents the modern concept of Christmas Spirit and offers one of the world’s most adapted and imitated stories. We know Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, not only as fictional characters, but also as icons of the true meaning of Christmas in a world still plagued with avarice and cynicism.

The Fur Trader

by Sam Ferguson

Garrin completed his mandatory military service several years ago, and he hated every minute of it. Now, he spends his days as a trapper. He knows the northern mountains of Dryden Range better than any other fur trader in the business. More than that, he is one of only two such people to have ever worked in Geberron Pass, the most deadly parts of Dryden Range.

When he is approached by a middle-aged man and his teenage nephew, Garrin knows there is more to the pair than they are telling him. They seek passage to Brywood, a city to the north of Dryden Range and across the Seron River, which marks the northernmost border of Garrin’s homeland. Most folk would travel west along the southern coastline and then turn northward, skirting around the mountains. These two, however, are offering a small fortune to go directly through the mountains with Garrin as their guide. The uncle pitches the idea as if he was nothing more than an adventure-hungry lesser-noble with too much gold and time on his hands for his own good.

Garrin knows that even those seeking adventure would never think to attempt Geberron Pass in the winter, unless they were hiding something. Still, the stranger makes Garrin an offer too good to pass up.

However, as the trio pushes forward through Dryden Range, Garrin soon learns that the uncle’s secret is far more serious than he ever could have imagined, and he finds himself in peril the likes of which he has never experienced before. Garrin quickly realizes he will need to dig deep and employ his full range of skills to ensure the safety of the group, and particularly protect the life of the youth who has clearly been plunged in over his teenage head.

The Christmas Relay Team

by Brian Sickles

Why doesn’t Santa’s famous reindeer team trade off with animals better suited for the warmer regions of the world along their Christmas Eve delivery route? Wouldn’t it also be faster to have multiple teams run shorter distances than one team race around the whole earth?

Those questions inspired this delightful spin on a beloved Christmas tradition. This Children’s Christmas Picture Book explores the dynamic between the Reindeer, the rock stars of the Christmas season, and their rivalry with some of the world’s fastest animals. The story is about the event that forced the Reindeer to relinquish their monopoly on the Christmas season and the formation of the first Christmas Relay Team.

Cheer on Team Husky, Kangaroo, Ostrich and Cheetah in this rhyming Christmas Adventure that’s sure to become a new Christmas tradition for your family.

Written and Illustrated by Brian and Annie Sickles.

Mountains of Fire (Dragon Charmers Book 1)

by Linda McNabb

A stunning Dragon Fantasy Series for all ages. A story of dragons and magic that you won’t be able to put down!

In a world where they can be sung into submission by dragon charmers, people have forgotten the true power of dragons… but when feral red dragons sieze a royal prince, that power threatens everything.

Logan lives with Zared, and elderley and absent-minded wizard, in Shanoria – the Kingdom of the Dragons. His closest friend is Alyxa, a dragon charmer with the rare gift of soothing and commanding dragons. But not all dragons are tame, and when feral Reds kidnap the crown prince, Logan and Alyxa are thrust into a fast-paced adventure.

The growing interest in dragon books has been fed by an increasing number of books and movies about them. From the very young, to the young at heart, there are dragon stories to suit everyone.
Dragon Charmers is a series that may well suit a broad range of reading levels.
It contains no war, politics, religion or adult themes – it is simply a great adventure for all ages.
If you like …
How to Train Your Dragon, by Cressida Cowell – Dragon Charmers is a great next step or a complimentary read for the young at heart.
Eragon, by Christopher Paolini – Dragon Charmers is similar in reading level and full of adventure.
Dragon Riders of Pern Series, by Anne McCaffrey – Dragon Charmers is a lighter tale of dragons without the adult themes, but just as indepth and enjoyable.

Enjoy!

Miserable and melancholic, Sam realizes Sally’s death has opened a Pandora’s box of oddities: weird sightings, haunting dreams, and nightly visits by characters he can only describe as bizarre . And what should he make of the increased appearance of that man in black who grants wishes while demanding items of glass in return?

Forced to accept the bitter-sweetness of a reality only read about in fairy tales, Sam and his four friends struggle to survive the ravages of what they slowly come to accept as ‘witchcraft’. Consequently, they accept an invitation to a magical school of Metaphysical and Alchemical Studies. But as if the evils of black magic wasn’t enough, love and lust threaten to crawl amid the hormonal teens, uncorking betrayals and turmoil among them.
