Walking the Walk Camino de Santiago 2012: 2nd Edition

by Marty Metras

Marty has always been a doer of things. For the last 50 years he has lived within a mile of the same place. When he retired in 2007, it was time to travel and see the world. His brother lived in Germany and him and his wife were planning to move back to the USA in a few months. Since Marty had only been out of the United States once in the 1960s on a trip around Lake Michigan, it would be a new adventure.
Marty’s brother and his wife told him he could walk across Spain while in Europe. Never being in a different country and not really being able to speak other languages there was a lot of fear. He tried to learn a little German and Spanish. After Mike said he would walk with him for a week, he committed to 5 days walking in Spain. Even after Petra & Mike said it would take 10 to 12 days walking on the Camino to decide if you are going the whole 790 kilometers.
After a few days visit at Mike & Petra’s in Germany, Mike and Marty headed off to Spain and started walking the Camino de Santiago from Roncesvalles. This trip was Marty’s first book, “My Camino de Santiago Adventure.” Many things did not work out for the best and Marty gave up returning home a little frustrated.
Then in 2012, Marty decided that he needed to finish something in his life. He booked a one-way plane ride to France then walked down to the train station to get a ride to the airport. On the walk to the train he decided he would not turn back unless someone was injured. In the next eight weeks he did not have a bad day.
This book is all about Marty Walking the Walk in the spring of 2012.

The Practical Guide to Wwoofing: Volunteering with WWOOF

by A Greenman

W.W.O.O.F, â??World Wide Opportunities (or Willing Workers) on Organic Farms’. This was the first paperback guide book on Wwoofing. When the author met the founder of Wwoof, Sue Coppard and presented her with the book, she later said it was:

“A delightful and informative read, very accessibly and humanly written, it almost reads itself to you!” 2009

This is latest Kindle edition, on â??How to go Wwoofing’, much improved and updated, looking at all aspects one may consider around the volunteering process. From how Wwoofing works, the ethos, approaching hosts, travelling to them and what one may expect whilst wwoofing itself. Designed for wwoofers helping in any country.

A. Greenman says:

â??The guide is peppered with anecdotes about my own experiences whilst volunteering and seasoned with humour. Real life tales taken from a decade of travelling with the land. Later, they formed the backbone of a novel I wrote: â??I Travel Light”

The information in this guide may seem obvious, if you already know it! However it can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with basic travel techniques, volunteering or working on the land. Between 2000-2015, Greenman wwoofed, and volunteered on land based projects in England, Wales, Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Latvia, Brazil and India. Later adding Belgium, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Greece to the list, when volunteering with his partner and baby daughter.

This guide is a collection of information he personally would have found useful before he embarked on his decade of volunteer travel, but at the time was harder to discover. Now, although one could scour the internet for weeks to prepare to go wwoofing, in this book it is all in one place, gathered from actual experience and knitted together with travel tales and anecdotes to encourage and inspire one to take the wonderful step into the world of Wwoofing.

Greenman now lives in Somerset, England, where he has settled with his partner and two children. He continues to work on the land and has developed his skills with wood, enchanted whilst wwoofing, to construct eco buildings in his local area near Glastonbury. He has also written a number of other books. He no longer flys or uses a car on a daily basis. Enjoy the original Practical Guide to Wwoofing

Andros. The Little England of the Cyclades: Culture Hikes in the Greek Islands

by Denis Roubien

You want to discover the cultural treasures of the Greek islands in a guided tour?

This is the book for you!

This book is a travel story describing, mainly through a large number of photos, with concise historical and architectural explanations, a hiking tour in one of the culturally richest and yet not enough known islands of Greece. Andros is not among the most known and visited islands of Greece. And yet, it deserves much more attention, since its hidden beauties are many more than the obvious ones. This book endeavours to cover this omission and give a glimpse of this cultural richness to the visitor who desires to discover it. Among other things, it presents one of the most beautiful neoclassical ensembles in Greece, historic monasteries, beautiful villages, a landscape of waterfalls and astonishing greenery in the arid Cyclades and the island’s great naval tradition, which gave it the nickname of ‘Little England’.

REMUS HORSE
SANCTUARY IN
DIRE NEED
The Remus Horse Sanctuary is in a financial
crisis that could cause its closure before the
end of this winter. The critical situation at
the most famous animal refuge in Essex
has been brought about by the blistering
hot summer. Paddocks at the sanctuary, at

grass would not grow. So Sue Burton, who
founded Remus and manages the home for
more than 200 rescued horses, donkeys,
goats, sheep, cows and cats, was forced to
start buying winter feed in June rather than
October, as in other years.
Buying in hay and food concentrates at a
cost of £1,500 a week meant that over the

Through the Porthole 2: Baby on Board: Second Cruise on Cunard’s Queen Victoria: Rotterdam, Zeebrugge and Cherbourg.

by Gary Troia

Join Gary, Marina and baby Aemelia on an introspective account of a five day cruise aboard Cunard’s Queen Victoria.
Docking at Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, and Cherbourg.

AN EXTRACT FROM BABY ON BOARD:
Embarkation day has arrived. We are waiting for a taxi. Marina is in the kitchen making a pot of tea. Aemelia is playing with Maurice (a large brown bear). I am bringing our luggage downstairs and thinking back two years when Marina and I were sitting in a hotel reception waiting for a taxi. My thoughts now, though, are so different. I can’t wait to embark, as this time I am looking forward to the cruise because the doubts and concerns I had have been replaced by fond memories of the freedom I felt from being at sea. This time I won’t have to wander the ship with new eyes. I can discount much of what the ship has to offer by way of entertainment and distractions to concentrate on the aspects I found so freeing, which I didn’t truly comprehend before.
Since our last cruise there have been significant changes to our lives. Not least among them are Aemelia and a new home…
