Daddy’s Disease: Helping Children Understand Alcoholism

by Carolyn Hannan Bell

There are a lot of reasons why we don’t talk to our children about alcoholism. We don’t want to upset the drinker and make things worse. We don’t want to bring attention to the drama and dysfunction. We don’t want to be accountable. We want it to go away. We don’t want our children to think badly of their parent. We don’t know what to say or which words to use. There are a lot of reasons why we don’t talk to our children about alcoholism , but none of them are good ones.
Talking to children about alcoholism is not hard. NOT talking to children about alcoholism and addiction is hard. Maybe not in the moment, when it feels easier, and maybe even kinder, to cover things up, but in the future when a child’s issues borne from misunderstanding, misinterpretation and lack of communication take flight.
In an easily understood, beautifully illustrated style, “Daddy’s Disease” helps families to navigate the difficult waters of alcoholism.Tommy doesn’t know why his father doesn’t show up for dinners, or soccer games or why he acts funny sometimes. Tommy thinks it’s because his father doesn’t want to be with him, that he hasn’t been the best boy he can be, that he should try harder. But, Mommy tells Tommy that Daddy has a disease called “alcoholism.” She helps Tommy, and his faithful dog Murphy, understand what this disease is and how it affects Daddy, and the whole family. She teaches Tommy that he is not responsible for Daddy’s behavior and that gives Tommy the peace he needs to foster a healthy childhood.”Carolyn Hannan Bell has given a gift to thousands of children and their parents with her book: “Daddy’s Disease”. A wonderful book for children who have a parent who has alcoholism. With gentle insight and poignant stories, she introduces us to 7-year-old Tommy whose father is an active alcoholic. Like most children of alcoholics, he is confused, angry and feels it’s his fault. This is where Carolyn takes over the voice of Tommy’s mother and holds his hand and heart while she guides them through these difficult waters. This is a children’s book that everyone living with alcohol should read. Thank you Carolyn”Daniel Gottlieb, PhD Host: “Voices in the Family” WHYY FMAuthor: “Letters to Sam”, “Wisdom of Sam” and forthcoming “The Wisdom We’re Born With”

I FEAR FOR MY CHILDREN. FEAR FOR AN INDIFFERENT WORLD.

by Jose Ruben Amador

The mockery of other children in school.
Sexual predators in the streets.
The gang. The alcohol. The drugs.
It is really sad what is happening in our society, in our world, in our lives.

If I had to to be born again in this world knowing where I’m going again, I would start my life depressed. Now I feel that depression for my children.

I see the news every night, but today more than ever I have been moved to the limit, until I feel afraid.
I am afraid for the safety of my children.

Now, if you allow me, I will briefly confess my great concern.

Asperger’s Saved My Life?

by Jayne Chisholm

The Story of one man finding out he has Asperger’s Syndrome and the impact on his life and that of his family…with a twist in the tale.

The Dalai Lama says if we smile at one person two will smile backâ?¦now you know why I don’t smileâ?¦Throughout my life I have felt different, never knowing or understanding why; blaming everyone and everything for my difficulties. I have felt such a failure, even regarding my own â??suicide’. Then, at the age of fifty-one, I reached a crisis point which made me realise there had to be something wrong with me. After crossing the Rubicon it took just six months to learn that the person I thought I was did not exist, when I was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome. This came as a great relief to my devoted wife and family, but left me with so much to question, ponder and attempt to process. It is on this process of self-revelation that our book is based.

I am a quiet person but with quite an interesting side (so I am told). Rather than relating my life story, I have endeavoured to answer, with brevity and humour, a few fundamental questions, not asked as part of the formal assessment, composed and recorded by my wife, Jayne.

I believe that putting my experience of Asperger’s down in writing might prove useful to other â??sufferers’. It might help them understand they are not alone in feeling the way they do; that here, in the wilds of Scotland, there is at least one more person who, although lacking empathy, may know how they are feeling. If it can help save one person the heartache, self-doubt and sense of failure I have has experienced all my life then it will have been worthwhile.

Although having Asperger’s could be blamed for making me want to take my own life it has most definitely saved it!

President Murders Migrants Seeking Freedom: Donald Trump Facing Crimes Against Humanity in 2019

by Dave Masko

President Murders Migrants Seeking Freedom, by Dave Masko. The parents of two dead migrant children seeking freedom in America are calling out Donald Trump for “crimes against humanity,” while most Americans are too busy suffering from a federal government shutdown aimed at punishing America for not cow-towing to “King Trump’s” demands to build a $5 million border wall that Trump said Mexico would pay for. Go figure? This special “new journalism” report at the end of 2018 is aimed at documenting this point in American history because “we have a president who hates people of color and hates immigrants most of all,” said Pam Cortez of Eugene, Oregon. Cortez, 67, is a former immigrant from Guatemala who thinks “Donald Trump is a big, fat liar!” This view is echoed by famed retired four-star Army General Stanley McChrystal who called Trump “immoral” during an ABC televised interview Dec. 30, 2018. McChrystal, the former commander of U.S. and internal forces in Afghanistan, said his view is “to work for people who I think are basically honest, who tell the truth as best they know it.” The four-star general then asserted that, “I don’t think he tells the truth,” when speaking of Trump; while then asserting how he and other Americans are not willing to ignore the “unacceptable” things Trump does” just because they accomplish certain other things that me might like.” The general then explained that Trump is so “shady” that this general and anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want to do a business deal with Trump. General McChrystal also rebuked this odious 72-year-old New York City con-man for playing politics during Trump’s end of 2018 visit to Iraq. “When leaders visit soldiers, young women and men out in potentially harm’s way, there’s a sacred interaction that occurs. You’re listening to their problems. You don’t use that as a time to tout your politics or your personal opinions.” While the general thinks Trump blew-it when finally visiting troops overseas, McChrystal also thinks Trump’s stupid plan to remove the vital U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan is a “mistake.” Overall, Trump is all about mistake after mistake, and this is why Trump will be removed from the White House in 2019. You can bank on it!

HARMONY Between God and you

by Jose Ruben Amador

It’s funny, but the people who least wants to know about God, are the people who have known him most and those who have trusted him the most.
I know that maybe you are one of the people who cannot bear to hear the name of God. I know you can have your reasons.
You only get to that point when you’re really disappointed.
I know that this is a very serious and extremely sensitive issue.

This book has not been easy for me.
Perhaps this book has been the most difficult to write because I have gone through a war of thoughts to get here.

Trump Disgrace Drives Teen Protests: American Youth Passions Explosive When Calling Out Lying Adults

by Dave Masko

Trump Disgrace Drives Teen Protests, by Dave Masko. It isn’t that we Americans cannot see a solution to gun violence and tech addiction, it’s that most gun owners and computer fans can’t see the problem, say teens asking why Republican lawmakers are so evil and corrupt to allow the N.R.A. and Silicon Valley to control and surveil our lives at will with zero effort to stop the madness. Meanwhile, the bitter consequences of an always lying and deceitful White House and Republican lead Congress drives a pessimistic view from American youth who are immensely truthful when calling out adults addicted to guns, information technology and virtually giving teens any real face-time to hear and listen to their heartfelt pleas about this country being disgraced by crazy old white rich men like Donald Trump. Hence, the recent March 24, 2018 “March For Our Lives” teen protest against gun violence in American schools and society. While more than 10 million teens and adults march through the streets of Washington, D.C. and all other major American cities, Republican-based Fox TV News chose not to report this national March For Our Lives protest because the National Rifle Association (NRA) controls Trump and most Republicans in Congress. Thus, it is the memory of Steve “Pre” Prefontaine that inspired local teen youth here in Coos Bay, Oregon, to not only walk out of class in protest about, “NRA coming into our schools to push automatic weapons on teens in our junior ROTC classes, but also for our adult leadership in Washington and state houses across this land to take notice of what are teens are demanding when it comes to stopping this assault weapon madness that is literally killing us,” explained Prefontaine’s teenage friend Charlie Simons who now at age 60 is a father of two teens attending the same Marshfield Senior High School as he and classmate “Pre” but “facing death due to uncontrolled guns each and every day,” added Simons with a deep sense of chagrin that “adults will never listen to these teen March For Our Lives protesters until these kids vote the SOBs out.” Simons and other concerned parents and adults are now joining the choir for this national “March For Our Lives” civic engagement by teens due to a complete disconnect with old adult rich white men who back Trump’s daily dishonesty and fear the NRA because this gun lobby of five million US members claims to have “Congress by the balls and won’t let go!” While these teen-led March For Our Lives demonstrations demand respect from the president and lawmakers, the teens this “new journalism” reporter has spoken to and interviewed think “Trump and Republicans are out of touch with citizenry because March For Our Lives has received broad national public support for legislation to stop the sale of automatic weapons and to decry the NRA and its backers for crimes against humanity because we all know the NRA enabled most of these mass shootings by literally enabling the killers with guns and gun training in our rural high schools under the junior ROTC banner,” explained Simons with other concerned parents and teens during a recent post-March For Our Lives discussion in downtown Coos Bay under the watchful eyes of Pre’s mural. While most clear thinking teens and adults want legislation prohibiting all civilian ownership of semiautomatic weapons, and increasing the minimum age to purchase a weapon from 18 to 21 years old, there is real fear that the NRA “owns and controls Trump and Republicans to such a gross degree that nothing on God’s green Earth will stop the NRA from being the â??decider’ on what the Second Amendment should stand for. In turn, the teen protesters are also demanding a “repeal of the Second Amendment because it’s simply a relic of back in 1776 when the security of our state depended on the right of the people to keep and bear arms,” said high school history teacher Dawn Munday after the recent March For Our Lives protest here in Coos Bay, Oregon.

Filthy Beast: The Diary of an English Teacher in China

by The White Buffalo

This is the story of a sad little teacher who lives in China with his crazy wife and ungrateful son. He provides them with ample spending money and a wonderful apartment in Beijing, but they simply don’t care. In fact, they abuse him unmercifully. He gets up for work every morning like a good man should only to get kicked in the nuts on a constant basis. Our protagonist rarely complains. He simply trudges through life with a retarded smile plastered upon his good-natured face. HIs is a tale of woe. Yet, with that said, it’s good for a few laughs. Be careful. This diary is filled with obscene sexual images and graphic details of an ongoing psychic war. Read at your own peril.
