Interview with the Author

Guest List is a prequel novella to the highly praised novel Letters for Scarlet. So should I read it first?
Up to you! The books can be read in either order. I wrote Letters for Scarlet first, but realized there was a lot more backstory to my characters than could fit in just one book! Guest List takes us back a bit in time and delves a little deeper into some of the secondary characters from Letters for Scarlet. It’s a short read but it covers a lot of ground, particularly the different ways female friendships play out over time.

And what was your inspiration to write Letters for Scarlet?
When I was teaching high school English, my seniors wrote letters to themselves, which I saved and sent to them five years after graduation. I imagined the impact of a tragedy happening in that time span and increased the period to ten years so the characters could be older and more established in their lives.

There are lots of great women’s fiction stories to choose from these days! What makes Guest List and Letters for Scarlet fresh?
I switch between narrators, sometimes employing first-person-present and sometimes third-person-past, to show my characters’ lives from different points of viewâ??both their strengths and flaws. Personally, I don’t like characters who are all hero or all villain.

Is this book part of a series?
Each book can be read as a standalone, but all have ties to the world of friendship and secrets rooted in Conejo Springs.

What do you enjoy reading?
Primarily, I love women’s fiction, literary fiction, and memoir. But any time spent reading is a good time!

1462 South Broadway: An Erotic Romance (Jessie Hayes Book 1)

by KC Decker

Sizzling contemporary romance author KC Decker takes readers on a steamy, erotic ride in her new series. Book 1 in The Jessie Hayes Series: 1462 South Broadway is a smoking hot example of how kink and BDSM can be sexy and playful instead of always brooding or deviant.

Have you ever found yourself mired in the redundancy of day to day life? Perhaps everything seems perfect, but somehow existence just feels uninspired and mundane? This is the precise rut where Jessie Hayes finds herself. She has a great career, witty friends and an adventurous spirit to keep her fulfilled, but the matter of contention seems to be, she is constantly disappointed in men.

After yet another failed and painfully boring relationship, Jessie’s friends convince her to try something new, something crazy…something intoxicatingly sexy, and profoundly erotic.

What follows is a journey of sorts, but not one as cliché as simply finding the perfect man and living Happily Ever After, because there is far too much story to tell in between.

Follow talented author KC Decker as she takes you on an intensely erotic journey of BDSM, kink, sexual awakenings and ultimately, deep, abiding love.

FIVE STAR REVIEW FROM READERS’ FAVORITE: Reviewed by Christian Sia on May 6, 2017.
***** KC Decker’s 1462 South Broadway is book one in the Jessie Hayes series, a sizzling contemporary romance with a huge potential to entertain fans of the genre. In a deliciously crafted story, the reader is introduced to an exotic world of eroticism and a sexually famished Jessie Hayes in the quest for sexual pleasures. She is the kind of woman who could have been fulfilled, but she is not. She has a keen sense of adventure, surrounded by great friends, plus she has a good job, but then one thing doesn’t seem to work for her — men. And this is until she discovers 1462 South Broadway.
Apart from Fifty Shades of Grey — which wasn’t particularly interesting to me — I have hardly read anything in this genre, but I was able to complete this book in two sittings, and I mean complete it as in, completely absorbed in it. KC Decker is a skilled writer who creates very compelling characters, exploring the most powerful and hidden emotions in them. Jessie Hayes may seem very normal from the outside, but deep inside her is a crazy longing, a fire that burns but that doesn’t consume. There is something powerfully weak about her and readers will connect with her emotions, her longing, and her sense of sensual adventure very easily. The plot is well-imagined and the author did a tremendous job to clear the work of any clichés that are often associated with this genre. The writing itself is sexy, crisp and well-polished. If the characters won’t seduce you, the author’s powerful prose will. It is steamy and exhilaratingly entertaining, the kind of story that will drive a reader over the edge.

O Cortiço (Prazer de Ler) (Portuguese Edition)

by Aluísio Azevedo

by Lima Barreto

Gatekeeper I – The Finding (Gatekeeper Trilogy series, Book 1) (The Gatekeeper Trilogy)

by R. A. Nelson

One American student. One semester in England. One unexpected mystery…

Studying abroad at Oxford University for a term should be adventure enough in itself, right? That’s what Anna Merritt thinks – and, at first, everything seems to be living up to her safe and reasonable expectations. She has an eccentric tutor, lots of opportunities for soul-searching, and two new friends with whom to enjoy the ride. But then, her tutor tells her that one of her friends is in danger – and disappears. Suddenly, Anna finds herself launched into an international mystery, including a post-term European tour, an enigmatic bowler-hatted stranger, and an adventure far and away beyond her plans…

Interview with the Author

Q: What makes the Gatekeeper trilogy special?
A: Who doesn’t like a bit of adventure, particularly of the European kind? The Gatekeeper series takes the reader through adventure in every form. In the first book, adventure finds us unexpectedly; in the second, we learn the dangers of trying to manufacture adventure for ourselves; in the third, we realize that the truest and biggest adventures always turn out to be rather different than what we’ve planned.

Q: What is the main character like?
A: Anna Miranda Merritt is a girl very much like me – a likeness which is the cause of most of her woes, alas. Her unquenchable thirst for beauty and meaning leads her right into the literary, cultural arms of Oxford University, a place which captures her heart and awakens new dreams in her soul. It is this love of all things British – and, more importantly, the deep and surprising relationships she discovers in England, Ireland, and beyond- that makes her coming of age story uniquely poignant.

Q: Do I have to read the books in order?
A: I have an abiding devotion to order, particularly of the chronological kind. I wrote these books over a period of thirteen years, so they are a kind of authorial autobiography. Ergo, reading the trilogy in order certainly gives some insight, as you can chart the personal and artistic growth of the author along with the main character. That being said…I also have an abiding commitment to personal freedoms. Do what you will; I believe you will enjoy Anna’s story in whatever sequence. 🙂

Q: Why should readers give this series a try?
A: This is a story about beginnings, endings, and all the quietly real drama that occurs in the most ordinary of lives during these “in-between” times. For anyone who’s ever found themselves, lost themselves, or is still searching, these characters have something to say. I wish you joy of the journey!
