Cruisin’ the Carolinas: A Personal Journey Filled with Travel Tips & Resources for Going Solo (Women Going Solo Series Book 1)

by Dianne K. Swanson

Cruisin’ the Carolinas

Cruisin’ the Carolinas is part travel guide to food and fun in the Carolinas and it’s also part personal journey – my first time traveling completely alone – unless you count a 3-hour drive and an overnight to Iowa, which I don’t really.

This book is geared mainly towards women because that is my perspective, but guys, if you don’t travel on your own, maybe this book will persuade you. There are a lot of excuses women have for not traveling solo when they don’t have anyone to go with – no fun, getting lost, unsure of things, etc. In this book I will show you how to overcome these fears so you can get out there and see the world!
I’m not suggesting you hop on the next plane to Timbuktu (unless that is your dream!), but I am trying to persuade you to start seeing the world by exploring your own country, where things such as language and customs are familiar.

While I’m very experienced in travel, it’s mostly been with other people – friends, family, tour groups, etc. But as I’ve gotten older and realized I’m not going to live (or easily get around) forever, so I need to start going places on my own to ensure that I see them. My dad loved to travel too (it’s part of where I get the travel bug), and we often talked about trips that I had been on or was going on. Before he passed away, he said “Di, go while you can.” I didn’t always listen to my parents when I was growing up, but this time I did, and I carry that simple bit of advice around with me everywhere I go.

I’ve had an interest in travel since I visited the beach in Florida for the first time in 6th grade, and I guess my love of travel has overtaken any fears I’ve had about going alone if there is no other option. The world is a big place and there are real dangers, but with some advanced planning, sound advice, and plain common sense, traveling alone can be done safely.
When planning this trip to the Carolinas I very much looked forward to going on my own and doing what I wanted to do and seeing what I wanted to see all week, proving to myself that I could do it, and actually have fun. Of course that meant I had to figure out directions and haul my own luggage around without any help. So come along as I weave delicious food and fun things to do in with travel tips (look for my TRAVEL TIPS to help you out on your next vacation alone) and my experiences traveling on my own – the good, the bad, and the stupid things I encountered. Take a journey with me to find out how it all worked out . . .

Dianne K. Swanson, CITM, is a Certified International Tour Manager. It is her mission in life to get people out in the world to travel, explore, and experience life away from home. As a tour manager since 2009, she has enjoyed leading, educating, and helping her tour passengers to have the vacation of a lifetime.
Dianne currently lives near the Twin Cities in Minnesota, but the ocean and beach are calling her . . . She travels as much as possible and has been to Europe, Asia, the South Pacific, Mexico, and Canada, as well as much of the United States. She is also the author of Island Girl Traveler Blog.

500 Random Facts: about the USA (Trivia and Facts about the Countries Book 1)

by Lena Shaw

Have you heard of the world’s only place where alligators and crocodiles live together? Did you know that White Sands National Monument is actually a desert with no sand? It’s in the USA! Want to find out how much did the USA pay to double its territory in 1803? If you want to read tons of interesting facts about the United States that will blow your mind, this book is for you.

500 Random Facts about the USA is the first book in the series Trivia and Facts about the Countries.
This book is full of absolutely random facts about the United States of America. The content is unique and family-friendly, although many of the facts are completely crazy. Some of them are unbelievable world records; some of them are about the inventions. Some of the facts describe the modern events but the others have happened somewhere in the USA centuries ago. Some of them are eye-opening statistics that will make you think more about your own life and priorities. In any case, these USA facts will entertain you and your family.

The examples of the random facts about the United States inside this book:

Toilet paper was invented in New York City in 1857 by Joseph Gayetty. In 2016, Statista calculated that 98.98% of Americans use toilet paper.
If the state of California was a country, it would have the seventh largest economy in the world. Also, California’s GDP is twice as big as Russia’s GDP.
The United States is one of only two countries that do not have paid maternity leave. The second such country is Papua New Guinea.
President John F. Kennedy was buried without his brain as it was stolen during his autopsy.

and so on…

The United States of America is a superstate. Everyone has heard of the American Dream. Millions of talented people want to arrive at the country of Mark Twain, Walt Disney, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and to start their own journey. This is the country of opportunities; however, nothing is perfect in the world of humans. There are both great and disgusting things and events happening in every corner of the world. The United States is not an exception. Facts about America will provide you two sides of this coin.

Takoradi to the stars (via Huddersfield): Travels from heart and home by a Rough Guide author

by Jules Brown

â??Jules’ travel writing is funny, inspiring, quirky and always engaging. His blog is great but reading the cream of his travels in book form is even more fun’
Mark Ellingham, founder of Rough Guides & publisher of ‘Driving over Lemons’

Long-time Rough Guide author Jules Brown has travelled the world for thirty years, writing guidebooks, having adventures and generally trying to find his way home – wherever that might be.

Born in Ghana, raised in Yorkshire, and sent around the world by Rough Guides, Jules is not your usual travel writer. In 25 traveller’s tales, Jules chooses byways over highways every time – whether heading out on the job, or following in the footsteps of his one-of-a-kind father. On the way, he climbs volcanoes, hikes across cities and deserts, mushes huskies, searches for the Loch Ness monster, gets stuck up a Lake District mountain, learns to cook rice in Hong Kong, and delivers the mail in New Zealand. He also gets stranded on a Mediterranean island, which is mostly his fault, and crash-lands in Tehran, which definitely isn’t.

â??Takoradi to the stars (via Huddersfield)’ is a heartwarming search for home and identity by a seasoned traveller with a quirky take on travel writing. Read the book and you’ll certainly never look at Huddersfield in the same light again (and if, like Jules, you eat a puffin, you’ve only got yourself to blame).

by Nrupal Das

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do – Mark Twain”. My travelogue about Minicoy Island, one of the most beautiful Islands of the world. For 16 years I have traveled to many cities in India, Europe and South East Asia but there was one place which just did not fade away from my memory. It refused to go away into the stack of my vacations and forced me to write this book. This is the most memorable trip of my 16 years of travel.

This book tells you my personal story of the natural beauty, culture and people of Minicoy. Not many venture to Lakshadweep Islands, India. After reading this book you cannot hold yourself back from imagining, planning and visiting Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep. Read this book to know about one of the most beautiful Islands of the world. Yes it is in India. It is Minicoy.

The book is short read and contains my personal travel experience, it does not aim to be a guide book though the last chapter mention ways to book a trip.

¡Exploremos!
  • No te cansas.
  • Puedes caminar alrededor de una ciudad con todo tu equipaje y no hay problema.

Aun cuando parecen cambios discretos e inconsecuentes, su beneficio se va sumando a lo largo del día, y ni qué decir a lo largo de una vida.
