Thaw Walt

by K.K. Trice

Have you ever heard the urban legend that Walt Disney was cryonically preserved? In Thaw Walt, K.K.Trice imagines a recent world in which the public is informed about Disney’s revival from a frozen existence. How might the potential for immortality affect public discourse about life, death, health care and human rights?

When a Los Angeles press briefing reveals to reporter Hannah Cornfeld that Disney has been brought back to life, Hannah is immediately taken aback by the consequences that may fall upon humanity. Her anxieties portend philosophical, political and personal complications upon not just herself, but upon several others who contemplate Disney’s revival from differing perspectives.

Hannah tries to follow the story about thawed-out Walt, while nurturing a budding romance with her girlfriend, Lucinda. Meanwhile, Isaac the bus driver contemplates his own existence as he tolerates ugly behavior on a Minneapolis bus route. Little do Hannah and Isaac know, they are destined for a coming-together with three other interested parties; Jeanna the prison guard, Evelyn the boutique owner, and Connor the insurance adjuster.

Hannah, Isaac, Jeanna, Evelyn and Connor all end up in Bettendorf, Iowa, individually exploring cryonics for their own reasons. In the end, the nation learns the hard way that immortality might just be a little more elusive than the five had assumed.

The de Maupassant Collection

by Guy de Maupassant

Guy de Maupassant was a French writer, remembered as a master of the short story form, and as a representative of the naturalist school of writers, who depicted human lives and destinies and social forces in disillusioned and often pessimistic terms.
Maupassant was a protégé of Gustave Flaubert and his stories are characterized by economy of style and efficient, effortless dénouements(outcomes). Many are set during the Franco-Prussian War of the 1870s, describing the futility of war and the innocent civilians who, caught up in events beyond their control, are permanently changed by their experiences. He wrote some 300 short stories, six novels, three travel books, and one volume of verse. His first published story, “Boule de Suif”, is often considered his masterpiece.

The de Maupassant Collection features over 150 short stories from the master himself!

1001 Date: Roman (amora 2) (German Edition)

by Yvonne de Bark

Erfolgreich, was die Quantität angeht.

QUESTING BEASTS

by J.B. Aspinall

Four novellas about hapless hunters and elusive quarries:

THE SEA: Two drinkers in a Scarborough bar consider the inexplicable dénouement of a love-affair forty years earlier. Masquerading as a detective-story, it is a poetic statement about love and an allegory of the relationship between artist and audience.

OLD LOVE’S DOMAIN: News of the death of Alison, last seen in Paris in 1968, takes Jeremy on a Hardyesque journey of nostalgia that ends surprisingly. A lament for the second half of the Twentieth Century by a despondent but unrepentant socialist.

IMAGERY OF DAY DESIRES: George dreams about a woman who has no place in his waking life: he lost his chance of her on a bus eighteen years earlier. His search for Jenny toys with the concept of alternative existences but basically this is a naturalistic study of delusion.

THE GIRL HE CHOSE: In the shambolic world of the future Precinct Frendlicop Kyriakos, investigating the deaths of two consumers of drug-induced fantasies at the Dream Palace, is compelled to undergo the perilous adventures himself to solve the case.

Resolute – The Andersen Saga (The Andersens Book 2)

by Jacie Middlemann

Resolute is the second in the ongoing Andersen Family Saga.

Noah Andersen had built his successful company from the ground up. He isn’t thrilled that several of his conference rooms have become a home-away-from-home for a team of government auditors trying to ferret out evidence to back up the anonymous tip received pointing in his direction. Noah knows where the tip came from. And now that he’s got his sister safely ensconced with their aunt he’s ready to take on the person responsible, her husband. But if he turns his brother-in-law over to the authorities it’s likely an innocent bystander could bear the brunt of the damage. Is it in him to exact his revenge on one family member at the cost of another?

The Andersen Saga is a story of family. It is a story about joy and loss, hope and sorrow, betrayal and regrets, unconditional forgiveness, high expectations, and unwavering loyalty. It reminds that at the heart of who we are is the family we come from, the family who stands behind and beside us and at times against us. And who we become isn’t just a result of those still with us but those too that we’ve lost along the way. It is about the twists and turns every family deals with, the conflicts from within, and the never ending desire for acceptance and respect.

Resolute is the second in the ongoing Andersen Family Saga. Other books in the Andersen Family Saga include Betrayal, Broken, Found, Choices, and Regrets.

The Andersen Family Saga is a series of novellas, classified by Amazon as Short Reads. If you love sitting down with a novella style book you will love the Andersen Family Saga. These books fall between the forty-five minute to two hours reading time category of Amazon “Short Reads.”

Hawke: Bad Boy Orphan Romance (The Miles Brothers Book 1)

by Larissa Ladd

Monday morning traffic was horrible on my bike, but nothing could diminish the optimism inside of me. The showing had been a huge success, and some of my long-term artist friends that had never made a dollar on their art had cleaned up.

The “thank you” texts and calls were still coming in.

Oddly enough, I felt like a hero of sorts. It was stupid, and my brothers would have given me loads of crap over it, but it felt good. Even better than that, I won the bet.

A date with my sexy, uptight manager. All I need is this one date, and she’ll be mine.
